You guys are dumn if you think there's any world in which the Raptors acquire Durant without trading Barnes. Don't even allow yourself to dream about it.

I'd rather keep OG than Siakam. OG is the kind of role player a championship team needs around Durant, an elite wing defender who can spot up for 3s. Siakam is a guy who needs the ball in his hands and thrives in the halfcourt predominantly against mediocre teams. Siakam isn't a dynamic playmaker, ballhandler, or creator, and I don't see him being nearly as effective if you have a guy like Durant soaking up so many possessions. In a playoff series, I would hands-down rather have OG being the primary guard against the likes of Harden, Butler, Middleton, even Giannis, than Siakam. OG is a better complimentary player and might have a bit of room to improve, whereas to me Siakam feels very much capped out on his potential. The difference in salaries between the two also means that in a potential Durant deal, if you keep OG, you'd also be able to hold onto Gary Trent, which would obviously add some much needed scoring depth.

 

I think that's fair and I could buy into that. But - Siakam was a hell of a complimentary player in 2019. He was more efficient and played a huge role on the team. OG is the one who feels he's being under utilized in Toronto and wants out. If they bring in KD...that's only going to get worse. There's also the reality that teams may value OG over Siakam anyway.

 

I also disagree they HAVE to give up Barnes. Why wouldn't Siakam + picks be enough? Maybe you have to include Precious too? I don't see teams giving up more than that. I guess we'll see.

Different situation. Leonard had 1 year remaining on his deal and was coming off a very significant injury.

 

KD isn't exactly an Ironman, granted, but his current injury status is solid as far as I know, and he has 4 years remaining on his deal.

 

Plus I think the market will be much hotter for KD.

As everyone has pointed out, the years of control don't really matter because you don't really control these stars in the NBA anyway.

 

I dunno. He's old as f*** and has massive injuries in his record. This is a weirdly proportioned geriatric player whose achilles could explode getting out of bed.

Durant is a top 5 player and one of the best scorers in NBA history of course the extra years are valuable. I bet you could trade him in 2 years and still get tons of value in return. Plus with his length he can pretty much score from anywhere he doesn't exactly rely on his athleticsm the way Lebron or Giannas does.

 

Look at Westbrook if you need any evidence of how a guy can be traded for value even in his decline years with a big contract.

Raps are not winning a NBA Championship with the current roster, even if some guys like Barnes or OG take their game to another level.

If you go all in on a 34 year Durant who's missed a million games the last few years you might have no championship and then also no draft picks or a young potential all-star for the next time there's a superstar available.

 

Anyways it seems like Pheonix doesn't even have the assets to make a godfather offer anyways, OG + GTR and 4 picks probably beats any thing they can put together.

He's probably staying with Brooklyn because no one else seems to be offering a young blue chip prospect like Barnes, and it seems like Masai isn't offering that either.

The question to me isn’t even if the Raptors have the assets to land Durant (they do), it’s whether he would even consider coming here. I have seen the videos of Durant praising Toronto, but I’m pretty sure those are from before Toronto fans cheered as he lay on the court with a ruptured Achilles.

I would think so, but the East is a deep division, so who knows. And yes, Embiid is a POS.

I don't think the Raptors getting 47 or more wins is a slam dunk but definitely could happen. Alot will ride on Barnes sophomore year and whether he slumps or not. They were sub .500 past the halfway point of last season and turned it on bigtime in the last 3rd. I'd probably put them anywhere from 43-48 wins.

I don't know about that. The East is pretty solid. Getting 47 wins is going to be tough...doable but tough. My gut tells me they fall just short...not cause they're not good, but cause there are a lot of good teams in the East this season.
