glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 The problem with the Sixers is that Simmons and Embiid don't mesh together at all. Without Butler there to create off the dribble for them, they'll find it difficult to score in the playoffs. What else can you say about the Raps? Don't have Lowry and Ibaka again, but still find a way to win. They have a legit 10 man rotation when those two come back (Lowry-FVV-OG-Pascal-Gasol starting and then Ibaka-Boucher-RHJ-Norm-Davis off the bench).
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 What a great game! Was down there tonight! First game of the season for me and managed to see the best one so far!
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 NN and Gasol own Embiid so hard it’s absurd. Other teams need to study that tape.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 The Sixers really nuked their future. The team we saw today is basically the culmination of The Process. That was it. They squandered so many assets and none of the pieces fit. The Harris trade and then subsequent re-signing is just shocking. Yeah, they had to re-sign Butler and Reddick even if they didn't want to pay for it. Instead they chose Harris and Horford. Defensively they should be good, but Simmons can't shoot, Embiid can't work off of Simmons because of that, and they don't have the shooting around those two to help either one.

The process almost came together but then they fired hinkie for colangelo lol
Frag Verified Member Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Pascal for MVP. OG for MIP & Defensive Player of the Year. Davis for 6th Man & ROY. Am I missing anything?

Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 Pascal for MVP. OG for MIP & Defensive Player of the Year. Davis for 6th Man & ROY. Am I missing anything? Pascal may very well win MIP again this season. Nurse will likely be a heavy contender for COTY.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 FVV might be a candidate for MIP too.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 It’s going to be interesting to see how minutes play out when Lowry and Ibaka are back. Definitely a good position for Nurse to be in.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 The Raptors have such an incredible point guard duo, it’s really such a treat to watch. Two all-star calibre PGs. FVV is going to get paid, and may actually be better than Lowry at this point.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 I'd hate to be a Jazz player in the locker room at half time.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 It's one thing to do this to the Knicks or Hornets or Bulls...but to an actual NBA team. Raptors were only 2.5 favourites in this game. When will Vegas give them respect? I haven't checked but I'm guessing the Raptors record against the spread this year is one of the best if not the best in the league.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Well the Jazz certainly got the message. They haven't missed in the third quarter, and the effort level from both teams has flipped entirely.
Frag Verified Member Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Raps win by 20 against one of the best teams in the West. #WeTheChamps
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Raps win by 20 against one of the best teams in the West. #WeTheChamps That sounds great on the surface, until you realize they had a 40 point lead at the half. Terrible 3rd quarter. But a win is a win.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Holy f***. I'll take a 40 point halftime lead and a 20 point win any day. Garbage time. The Raptors were right back on their game when the lead was cut to 16.

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Meanwhile... It's amazing how well-rounded Davis is. Defense - check Threes - check Finishing at the rim - check Dribbling in traffic - check Good enough size to dunk, contribute on the glass

Insane player development.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Meanwhile... Davis is fantastic by all means, a real gem uncovered by our scouting department and testament to our player development, but I wonder how much team effects are coming into play here. I'm surprised Ja Morant rates out THAT poorly even though the majority of his negative contributions are on defense which is understandable for a rookie. But still, for him to not be above some of the players who rate out better than him is questionable and makes me wonder if their model is punishing him for being on the floor with lesser players, unlike Davis and the Heat rookies.

I believe RAPTOR utilizes player tracking into its model, which likely teases out teammate effects.

Defense - check Threes - check Finishing at the rim - check Dribbling in traffic - check Good enough size to dunk, contribute on the glass In addition to his raw skills, I've been really impressed by his decision-making in passing, shot-taking, and when to reach for a steal. He seems to really understand that he needs to play within a system to earn PT from Nurse and is basically modeling his game after FVV to great effect. I don't think it's a reach to say that Davis could be a starting PG on some bottom 10 teams.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2019 Posted December 3, 2019 I see him as more of a PG than SG with his handle, but the distinction is blurrier than ever. FVV is a PG but also one of the best shooters in the NBA. Really positions are irrelevant these days, though. Ben Simmons is a centre masquerading as a PG and Kristaps is an SG in a C’s body. It’s basically gotten to the point where if you aren’t viable at 3 positions, you’re a dodo.
