Laika Community Moderator Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 This is not me but a friend. He has a $50 wager on Harden to win MVP from before the season started. He has a $410 cashout option now. Do you let it ride for the $750 or do you take $410 now If you had $360 right now to bet, would you put it on him to win at 2/1 odds against? I'm seeing his odds on some sites as 4/9 so letting it ride seems like a really good idea.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 I'm pretty conservative with this type of thing, I'd cash out. Especially on a vote that is super subjective (ie MVP can't come from a s*** team f*** you!!!)

Give people a 50/50 chance to win $21 on a $10 bet, and far less than half of people take the bet, even though it's a good one mathematically.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 It's not life changing money but it is in the hands of voters (I honestly don't even know how voting works for NBA MVP). I know I'd never put $340 into the hands of MLB voters. My advice was to let it ride or see if you can take 50% out ($205) and let the rest ride for $375

With Westbrook set to average the full triple double and OKC is a playoff team he'll get mvp. Personally I'd give it to leonard though.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 The MVP will very likely come down to Westbrook and Leonard. I'd give it to the latter myself but I think the voters will have a hard time not voting for the triple double average. I think he should take the guaranteed money.

I'd take the money and run.

If you honestly think it will come down to those two you should be putting money on them. Westbrook has been around 1.5 to 1 and Leoanrd is 7-1.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 1st game back Lowey drops 27 on 16 shots. This is the year
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 1st game back Lowey drops 27 on 16 shots. This is the year I like the optimism, but I'm just don't see them getting past Cleveland. And if they did by some miracle, beating Golden State, San Antonio or even Houston would be monumental.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 No one is beating Golden State but facing Cleveland should at least be fun. We finally have a 3rd star and Pj tucker has been great. I honestly see us beating Boston in 5 games

Good team but the Raps match up well as long as they contain Thomas. I'm curious as to who you think is the 3rd star on the raptors?

I'm curious as to who you think is the 3rd star on the raptors? He's probably thinking Ibaka. While not a star he does make the team a lot better. I do think your under estimating are chances against Cleveland. Derozan is a way better player than he was last year, Lowry is Lowry and Ibaka has made us a lot better. I personally think we can beat them were not on their level but still think we could. However against GS or SA we don't stand a chance lol
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 (edited) Knicks starting 4 rookies vs raptors EDIT: late change to the lineup - Justin Holiday starts meaning only 3 rookies. Edited April 9, 2017 by Bobthe4th

Heaving the most 2 point shots in the league will get you points, and it's useful in the regular season, but when your game is centered around mid range shooting and getting to the free throw line, your game tends to suffer when the whistles get put away in the playoffs. Agree that adding Ibaka will give the other teams something to think about, but realistically this teams success is on Lowry, not Derozan.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Russell Westbrook holy mother of f***.

Sorry when I put Lowry is Lowry I just assumed everyone new he was THE GUY on the team. Everything you said about him is correct. I was just saying Derozan is much better than he was last year. They made the conference finals last year and with Derozan(this years version), Ibaka and Lowry this team can beat anyone in the East(a little luck against Cleveland as they are still the better team).
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I hope he took the money lol Last I knew he was countering taking 75% and leaving $12.50 wagered to see if they would take it. I will ask tonight.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 James Johnson doing everything he can to go golfing tomorrow. Complete disaster out there right now for Miami with untimely boneheaded plays.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Rockets vs Thunder should be the pick of the 1st round match ups. Obv it'll be billed as Harden vs Westbrook as the likely top 2 in the MVP vote.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 My sister wants me to sell her game one tickets but I feel like that's not going to be easy considering they were $205 each but they don't seem to be priced that high on stubhub. This is going to be such a hassle.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 cleveland actually looks pretty weak this year. We might actually have a legit shot at making the finals!

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Can we take Demarre Carroll off already plz
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Is Carroll seriously guarding Giannis lmao Just put Tucker on him and the series is over.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2017 Posted April 15, 2017 Is Carroll seriously guarding Giannis lmao Just put Tucker on him and the series is over. Well Giannis is nearly unstoppable but yeah obviously you'd rather have the superior defender/more physical player in Tucker.
