jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Patterson injury sounds concerning. Outside Lowry he's the one guy they really can't afford to lose. PF depth is crap. They should probably just play small ball. Siakam doesn't bring much to the table
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 They should probably just play small ball. Siakam doesn't bring much to the table They tried last night and it was ugly. They need Patterson to play small.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 They should probably just play small ball. Siakam doesn't bring much to the table Yeah Carroll should play the 4. Then you can have DD/Ross/Powell rotate at the 3 wing positions.

I think it was CoJo 2 and Lowry 1 but not super sure on the backcourt. I do like the look of that lineup. 4/5 can ... technically... shoot a 3 pointer which opens things up for Demar.

I think there was a point against GS where it was Patterson, CoJo, Lowry, Ross and Derozan on the floor for a few minutes
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Yknow who would really help a small ball lineup? Paul Millsap
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Yknow who would really help a small ball lineup? Paul Millsap You giving up Ross, Powell and 2 first round picks to get him? I'm not.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Be interested to see if Cousins attitude changes if he goes to a team like Toronot. He's a massive headcase but so was Lowry before he came here so maybe he can get better.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 I don't know what's gotten into Siakam today, but he's playing like he wants to make a statement.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Jakob Poeltl is so much better than Nogueira. He makes some dumb fouls at times but he's far more polished and has a much higher basketball IQ.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 33 Points on 14 f***ing shots.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 As soon as Derozan and JV come on the floor the team sucks again.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 33 Points on 14 f***ing shots. Raps give him a max contract? You would think it's a no brainer.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Raps give him a max contract? You would think it's a no brainer. Of course. GOAT raptor in his prime.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Raps give him a max contract? You would think it's a no brainer. Well the other option is they let him walk and go back to being a lottery team. You basically have to sign him.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 It'll be interesting this offseason to see what they do. If they want to sign Patterson back as well they would be going into the luxury tax. My guess is JV or Carroll gets traded.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 People like to complain a lot. A minimum of three wins in a six game Western Conference road trip where two of the teams are Golden State and San Antonio. That's pretty damn good. The Raptors have the world's cushiest schedule after Tuesday, with three, maybe four games in which they would be the underdog for the rest of the year.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 thank you I've always thought this, it's just that Nogueira seemingly doesn't get any better even with the undeserved increased playing time. Poeltl comes in and you can notice how much better he is at getting himself into good positions all the time, whether it is on the glass or making himself open to save one of the guards who are driving and run out of room. It obviously has a lot to do with him being a noodle, but Nogueira just gets destroyed by opposing bigmen. He rarely ever gets a hard fought defensive rebound, if it doesn't land in his hands most likely he allows the offensive rebound or tries to tap it away to a teammate - he has an insane wingspan, he should really try catching the f***ing basketball! I'll give him that he's good at using his length sometimes to pick up blocks when he has space - on the contrary if he's close to a defender it's almost always a foul which he never agrees with - and he can be a helpful PnR partner for Lowry who just lobs the ball close the rim while drawing 3 defenders and it's as easy as an NBA alley-oop gets.

I wouldn't say its undeserved. He has one of the best Net Rtings on the team and played really well for a good stretch. He's really good offensively if you surround him with 3 point shooters and a good PnR guy like Lowry and Joseph because he's great finishing around the basket and a good passer. His defence needs work but he's a decent backup C. I mean JV can rebound but his defence is much worse overall.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Well the other option is they let him walk and go back to being a lottery team. You basically have to sign him. Agreed. Masai Ujiri seems like he'll get it done. Did the same with DeRozan last offseason and he realized how important that winning culture they have built over the last 3 seasons is. Lowry + DeRozan both play and feed off each other well together, which is always never that easy when dealing with two star players on the same team. The Raps likely have to move Carroll I think next offseason. Ross & Powell are good enough. JV is still pretty cheap and unless they bring in someone like Cousins, he needs to stick around.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Caroll with his contract probably has no trade value. Powell is good enough that he should already be starting though. Ross is a good trade chip.

JV has really regressed this year and the Raps have always been better with him off the floor than him on. I'd rather have Patterson on a similar contract + what you could get back for him(JV) than just JV. Carroll I would try to move first but can't see many teams wanting him.

I think JV's ankle is still hurt. He's just not moving like he did last year since he rolled early on.

Trade JV + for Cousins problem solved!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Outside of a few playoff games has JV ever shown he can be a difference maker? Post ups are really inefficient shots so he's no use there. He's a great rebounder and good at setting screens but his defence gets exploited where he just isn't that good of a player. If JV +++ for Cousins is remotely possible I'd do that in a second.
