You guys hate on DD way too much imo.

Inefficient long two specialist who doesn't pass or play defense. What's his use?

5/120 for Damien Lilliard holy f***

This might be a little bit more fair when the cap rises but still pretty bad

He makes the team worse not better. He's our version of JPA when casual fans thought he was a potential all-star catcher.

I don't really think 120/5 for Lillard is a bad deal. Its better sometimes to just overpay and keep your star players

Lillard is so bad defensively. I do agree with your opinion on star players though. Franchises are just stuck and can't really do anything else in some situations.

Amir :(. Easily favourite raptor of all time. Dude played through all types of injuries. Definitely going to the first Boston game.and will cheer for.him

Loved Amir. Hoping he would give us sweetheart deal. He got paid though. I had no interest in paying him 12 million a year. He declined quite a bit this past this season. Not sure what Boston is doing.

They need to spend to reach the salary floor

So GSW broke off talks with Draymond.

Masai??

They're going to match at the end of week, no point in putting capspace on hold until then. I'd wonder how he would do outside of GS anyways.

Isn't DD's ability to drive to the net and play inside worth something? Asking as a total ignoramus here but as a very casual fan it seems to me that the problem isn't lack of ability but more poor use of existing ability. Seems like he needs to be coached to focus more on what he does well in which case he could really be an asset. Am I wrong?

It's worth something, but not 10m per year. James Johnson is a great finisher and elite defender himself.

Derozan can't just drive more to the net if a coach told him to. He doesn't have an elite first step or handle like a prime Dwayne Wade where he can just get to the rim whenever he wants.

He also doesn't have a jump shot that commands the respect of guys playing him tightly, so guys can just sag off and concede the long two

Things like this just seem very hand wavy. He looked like a much more effective player in 2013-14, someone that would be worth the money he makes. He must have been doing something differently then.

That's really just what I've learned as a basketball player, it's a fundamental of the game. If a guy is a better shooter than slasher, play him tight, or vice versa.

2013-14, Demar was much, much better at converting 2-pointers. His 3P% was a couple ticks better but not significantly, and his FT% was right in line. But his 2P% was way down last year.

The reason is pretty obvious though. He just takes s***** long twos. We've beaten that issue into the ground.

Doesn't have great shot

Opponents sag off and concede long 2's

Demar takes those shots

Demar misses many of them

Demar suck

ok.

So what did he do differently in 2013-2014 though? Why did he take less s***** long 2's back then?

Who knows. Basketball is a lot different from a sport like baseball in that players make conscious decisions. Corey Kluber doesn't go out and decide to strike out 15 guys, but Demar can consciously decide to chuck up long twos. So I guess there's a lot more hand waving in basketball.

My opinion is that Demar and Lou never really got punished or steered away from taking these s***** shots, so they took more of them. So, to answer your question, coaching. Casey's seemed to get worse at coaching offense by the year.

What I'd like to look at is what percentage of Demar's possessions from 16-23 feet for longer than 2 seconds (or just not a spot up jump shot) ended in a pass versus a shot in 2014 versus 2015. I don't know where that data is, but I'd figure Demar passed a lot more in 2014 instead of taking crappy shots, considering his assist rate was about 2% higher in 2014, and that he shot a lot more in 2015.

You're right, it's hand wavy, but is there really a better alternative right now?
