Dude Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 When did I claim anything about hundreds of years ago? Your argument is "oh, they just couldn't detect it". So could they not detect diabetes in the 50s either? Why is diabetes up 5000%? oh cuz muricans r fat rite? f***en sheep More statistics from the derpanatior. Yes, a major contributor to diabetes is diet you f***ing idiot.

Not rocket science.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I really doubt anyone is going to care about the difference between a flag and a patch. If the Seattle Mariners were putting the Palestinian State flag up, or on the scoreboard, or whatever else there would be outrage either way. I see a big distinction. Just like I don't mind those pink ribbon patches in the NFL. I would be upset if I saw a Cancer Society Flag.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 How would you feel if the Angels decided to fly the Flag of Israel on a Jewish holiday?
Dr Negative Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I guess you're "that guy" who would bring up "cuz wer fatt". I'm talking about type 1. The kind youre born with genius. Stop making excuses for it. I don't know how you expect me to know since apparently scientists have not really figured out what causes it. I guarantee it is not the government though.
backontop Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Sex is a personal thing and should be kept that. Half way through Mikes Talking up Blue Jays they had two dummies working with Mike, Sid and someone who sounded like Dirk, but it may have been someone else, anyways he kept talking how he'd like to suk Mike etc, I thought in jest, but given all the homo's who have come out lately, it sounds like being homo is 50-50 vs. being straight, so now in 2013, its better not to joke about being gay or people will think that you are indeed gay such that there are so many of them. BTW Mike and Sid, there were some people listening to the radio, don't assume no one is listening because your show stanks, we don't know it is going to stank until we HEAR it.
Dr Negative Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 How would you feel if the Angels decided to fly the Flag of Israel on a Jewish holiday? I would probably call it 'unwise' though I would not really care all that much. Also, it would not make that much a difference on what format it was displayed. I would not care about a cancer society flag though (really?).

There are many people who take issue with the Cancer Society. Some believe that they cash grab and a huge amount of money does not go to research. How aböut Green Peace? It's very suspected as being a dirty organization in regard to their finances. They are also militant. Perhaps it's traditional and people are losing site of history but flags are very different than banners or signs or patches. Flags are meant to be on a much higher level of importance.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Haaaaaaa. I'm gay and I can tell you I think my "behaviour" should be promoted. I want to work hard, earn money, meet a decent guy who I love and who will love me, settle down, start a family, and be an accepted part of the community. That doesn't really sound "liberal," it sounds pretty much like the 1950s to me. Someone should write in the Sheldon Coopers Fun with Flags to see if flags influence people. It would be interesting to find out. ewww...really you want to work hard?

TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Wow lol. That's kinda funny, picturing an angry senior on the phone with some poor intern yelling about this. Blue Jays interns don't get to do anything near this important.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Fair enough. I personally would exclude all charities, all groups, all political parties, all lobbies, all organizations from ever flying a flag at a MLB game. No Gay Pride, no Cancer Society, no United Way, no NAACP, no US Army, no Heart Foundation, no anything! Again, I'd have no problem with a Pride Day banner in the park. Heck, play YMCA or It's Raining Men during the 7th inning stretch. Have a cross dresser throw out the first pitch. Just no flag.

KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 All flags that are not representative of baseball teams that play in the park or league or national flags of teams that play in the league or an international flag of a national team playing in a game or tournament in the park and the home State and city flags.
Caper Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Lets keep this on baseball. No need to be talking about talking it up the ol hershy highway.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 it is true there have been reports linking increased homosexuality in nature to environmental change. a stronger linkage to increased infertility though but that's separate from the gay rights issue
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 That world is not over populated at all. You could fit everyone in the world into the state of Texas with a 700 sq foot apartment ground level. The earth could easily support 20 billion people. But the elite in power are too greedy. and how do you think fitting the world's population like sardines in a can into the state of Texas? I suppose when they aren't busy killing each other, the orgies will be epic

Agreed. All of the news that came out of Washington yesterday is fantastic progress for the States.... but this is a baseball park.... keep it baseball related...
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 "Alex, what is 'who cares?'" Really this should be another blip on the promotional schedule, but as long as people keep bringing attention to it, you get the bigots out of their cocoons. The MLB has celebrated negro leagues in the past and while they were more 'baseball relevant' the message behind the celebration was a political one.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 One would think that a scoreboard message in recognition of Pride Day would be enough. Maybe have a prominent member of their gay community throw out the first pitch. Flags in the ballpark should be for the two host nations of MLB. Additional flags should be limited to team flags and flags of the host State and city. This descision is a poor one. Is it now ok to fly a Shriners Flag on a Shriners Day? How a about a Republican Party Flag on Republicans Night? How about a Conservative Party of Canada Flag? An NAACP Flag on Martin Luther King Day during Spring Training? Slippery slope! What about wearing a patch like on Jackie Robinson Day or special uniforms like on Memorial Day! I understand what you are saying Kirk but, the MLB has already gone down that path.

On a side note, I agree the news is fantastic and it's about damn time.

Also, it would not make that much a difference on what format it was displayed. I would not care about a cancer society flag though (really?). Why would you fly a flag of Isreal on a Jewish Holiday? Do you have any idea how many Jews that would piss off? They aren't all zionist and most of them wouldn't want that negative attention on a holiday. Additionally it isn't part of the religious ceremony to worship the state of Isreal in any way, or to fly a flag. It is common practice to fly a Pride flag especially on Pride Day. If the MLB wanted to follow the Jewish holiday traditions and light a menorah on Chanukkah or have some wine on yum kippur I could hardly see that being a bad thing.

Man I was just trying to make a point. I used an obvious extreme example. I chose Anaheim because its not just a largly Jewish part of California but generally pro Israel.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 There'd be riots! That'd be terrible! haha I totally get the point you are making. Apparently a flag has a deeper meaning to older generations which I can respect. I don't view it that way but, I can picture a line of war vets echoing your feelings. IMO it's just showing support. It's the same as lighting the x-mas tree in times square, or dropping the ball on NYE. Just a way for a community to come together, support each other and celebrate with their city. Perhaps others will feel it is forcing a view-point on them. At the end of the day Seattle is one of the few US cities that isn't a melting pot, something I think they're extremely proud of and worth celebrating.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 A flag has much deeper meaning to older generations in North America. They still seem to carry extra meaning in other parts of the world. Perhaps having wars on your soil causes that.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Seattle is flying it at city hall too btw.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Ya, I think that's where the diverging view points come in. It's something I'll be cognizant of in the future. Question though; If it was called the Pride Banner instead of the Pride Flag, would your opinion change on flying it? (obviously not on a pole beside the other flags)
