Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Cubs have engaged in long-term contract talks with Matt Garza. It has been assumed for weeks -- no, months -- that the Cubs would trade Garza at this year's July 31 deadline, but Heyman says club officials "recently have broached" the possibility of keeping the right-hander around long-term. This could be a ploy to drive up the trading price for Garza or it could be a show of confidence by the Cubs in their suddenly-blossoming minor league system. Sign-Trade ALA NBA
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Rogers should buy the Atlanta braves. they look good...
Caper Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Braves are keeping Gattis with McCann leaving for FA. They'd want to keep the brothers together as well. Yeah I agree with you.
Caper Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Ok. I got another one. Anthony Gose & Emilio Bonifacio to Seattle for Dustin Ackley. We cross our fingers and pray he can reach his potential and they get a better center fielder... I'm not sure why they would want Boni.... just no need for him.
Caper Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Even though Gose is having a down year, I'm not sure we'd win that deal.. Oh... either am I. If you had to put money down you would have to guess that Ackley doesn't meet his potential..... but it could be a gamble willing to take. Especially at 2nd base. I would also say the risk isn't huge... because Gose probably wouldn't be much better then Rasmus.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Our best trade fit appears to be the Tigers by a wide margin. Something along the lines of Janssen + Loup + Gose + Rogers FOR Castellanos + Smyly perhaps. Not sure that quite gets it done, but should be a good basis.
KSaw Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Hey kirk.. you still like Nate Schierholtz? Can prob get him for peanuts and crackerjacks at this point. He's f'd my fantasy team the last couple weeks so I'm kind of sour on him now. Absolutely. A little slump does not define a player. He has a plus arm, is a good defender, has a high baseball IQ and hits right handers well. He'd fit very well today in a platoon with Davis and would slide in nicely in the 2-hole. If Melky came back healthy I would view it as a good problem to have.

I think Detroit would be very hestitant to trade Catellanos but a trade for Smyly is something I have thought about for awhile Perhaps Janssen + prospect for Smyly ... I would include Bonifacio or possibly Gose, if that is what is needed to make a deal
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Padres got anything we want?? Chase or bust!
JaysRap Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Padres got anything we want?? Chase Headley and Jedd Gyorko but Jedd ain't going nowhere. Jason Marquis has a 9-4/3.79 ERA but his WHIP is awful at 1.49 and dude's given up 17 HRS already and walked 63 in those 107.0 IP.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Marquis is awful Yeah we have enough guys who give up walks and home runs but maintain an acceptable ERA.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Marquis is awful A move to the AL East might end his career.

KSaw Verified Member Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Watch AA pick up Bonderman. A typical AA kind of move. Surely Seattle is hoping that someone will trade them NOTHING and eat something off what's left on that contract.

Wait until the deadline, when hopefully Detroit are desperate for relief pitchers - this looks like a terrible trade for us.
Caper Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Jays win! Lets get Utley!!! hahahaha.
Tuco Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Apparently Ruiz is available. We need to find a better catcher for next year if we plan on doing anything.
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Jays win! Lets get Utley!!! With what's going on with Lawrie I'd say Headley is more likely
KSaw Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 With what's going on with Lawrie I'd say Headley is more likely Whether it happens or not, it seems obvious that Michael Young would be the target with Lawrie playing 2b. Philly is one of the teams that like Bonifacio and Utley probably gets shipped too, often rumoured to Baltimore. A meh prospect and Bonifacio probably nets Young. He has an expiring contract that Philly would like to dump if they're selling.
KSaw Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 They still claim they aren't selling and they've been winning of late but I just can't see them making a run. Btw, the Giants have tanked and will be selling. Lincecum will hit the market.
Pete_7 Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 You would think they're selling with the big man Hitting the DL........it's hard to say with Amaro. Knowing Amaro he'll aquire Garza and pay him 200 mill over 7 years, than overpay a reliever this offseason just for kicks

KSaw Verified Member Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I'd pass on Young, but that's me It would be nice to add a high OBP hitter and one who isn't just a mistake masher. Young hits good pitching and this team has a big problem in that department. They feast on mistakes and do nothing against good pitching. Sure it's an uphill climb to beat a pitcher who is on his game but it's like this team is altogether doomed when it runs into a guy who is on.

I suppose if you could get him on a 2 year deal it could work
