Rajais Mitten Verified Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Would love to get Howie Kendrick if the angels are willing to trade him would easily be an upgrade to boni/izzy in pretty much all facets, would love him batting 9th or maybe 2nd and have him be able to hit and get on base for Jose, EE and even lind now and give them more chances to score runs something i think none of our other current players at 2nd can do on a consistent basis. only thing is what would it take to get him i'm personally not sure
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 when the Dickey deal was made I thought it was boneheaded always better to keep some trade chips for the trade deadline, after you've had a few months to evaluate the team strengths and weaknesses syndergaard and a lesser piece gets Cliff Lee as it is, jays cupboard is too bare to get Lee I thought the exact same thing at the time, but I guess you could argue that it's better to have the player for the whole year and you don't know if Cliff Lee will waive his NO TRADE clause to play for the Blue Jays which is a big if. If it was me, I wouldn't have made the deals in the offseason, nor would I trade Syndergaard for Lee, but then again, I'm not the GM and I have no pressure to improve the team ASAP which in my mind is what ownership decided they wanted from baseball operations.
Tuco Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 This team has a championship calibar offense and BP. We have 4 studs on O in Reyes, Bautista, EE and Lind. We have 3 studs in the BP in Janssen, Delabar and Cecil. This pitching staff isnt what we imagined with Dickey tanking, Morrow getting injured again and Romero not regaining form. If we aquired 1 more elite or close to impact pitcher this team would be scary and I would say lines up well against ANY team. We need one more pitcher to make me feel extremely confident about this team.
Caper Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 What about trading Gose to Miami for Hech? Give us an elite 2 nd baseman.... That can't hit.

No way could we have afforded Lee instead of him.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Wow there's actually people who don't want the lefty version of Greg Maddux?

A tonne of pitchers could have pitched better then dickey without giving up as much.

Some people are weighing the costs v/ the benefits. If we could get him without giving up much in the way of prospects, then sure, he's a great pitcher.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 No one is touching a guy coming off his second TJ surgery. Drabek has microscopic trade value at best. I said something around Drabek. Both Beckham and Ackely's value have taken hits as well, and Drabek not too long ago was a highly touted prospect coming up similar to Beckham and Ackely. It's not out of the question. The Jays traded Travis Snider for Brad Lincoln last season, and I'm thinking Ackely and Beckham have similar value or maybe just a bit more due to the position they could play.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 bro im 100% with you on your love for cliff lee. i would absolutely go all in for him, especially if we could get utley as well. i feel like im in the minority around here but i would rather see the toronto blue jays win the world series rather than the dunedin blue jays or new hampshire fisher cats winning championships. We have a good f***ing club that isnt gonna get any younger. we need a stud ace, cuz dickey is s*** haha. Cliff Lee is f***ing nails. I want him,

It's hard to say Drabek had any value when healthy, now after his second TJ? Ackley still has plenty of value and I really doubt the Mariners are going to sell low on him. If Gose hadn't been such a disappointment so far this year I would suggest a Colby/Ackley swap with maybe a bench player or something extra to the Jays.

I think Ackely would be tougher to trade for instead of Beckham agreed. Mariners likely would ask for more. You likely could only flip Drabek + another piece for a struggling young player who has underachieved and has ran out of favour with their organization.

Cliff Lee's contract allowed him to name 21 teams he couldn't be traded to. He has already been quoted as saying that he would likely stick to his list. Toronto is on that list. Boston is too actually.

It seems to be hard for a lot of people on this board to believe that free agents would prefer not to sign with the Blue Jays, for whatever reason.

RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I think the Cardinals might be a good fit for a deal. They are desperate for even a replacement level Short Stop in the worst of ways, and Izturis could be just the man they are looking for. Maybe give them a BP arm as well, and we can get a B prospect in return? Perhaps even a Kolten Wong if we sweetened the package?

They have one guy on that team that I've always loved and is one of the most consistent players around, who is having a career year to this point. HOWIE KENDRICK I think they deal him for sure. Might be a high cost, but won't be a ridiculos one. This guy is a perfect fit ... And who know's, maybe he can even keep improving playing at a hitters park like Rogers Center rather than a pitchers park like Angel Stadium.
