hummus Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Blue Jays die hards have been watching the guy for years. He made one of greatest catches in MLB history after all This guy is awful, whatever he gives you on defense he takes away on offense. At this point absolutely anyone is better than this scrub player. Only in baseball can failure be rewarded year after year
Nox Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 According to the other board, he should be our leadoff hitter when Reyes returns. Correspondingly, it makes sense to slot Reyes into the 9 spot.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 He made one of greatest catches in MLB history after all No, no he most certainly didn't. He also doesn't give you s*** on defense but gives you quality production on offense from his baserunning. Oh, and you said you'd stop posting here.
hummus Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 Oh, another reactionary thread. There is no plausible reason for Rajai Davis to wake up a Blue Jay tomorrow. He is a 1 tool player and detrimental to this teams failure
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Rajai's splits v/ LHP career .292/.351/.420 He's pretty damn good in a platoon role.

hummus Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 Davis is a fine bench outfielder. Great baserunner, can hit lefties a bit, and can play an averagish OF. When your team's payroll is 125 million dollars, I expect better than great baserunning and decent hitting vs LHP. Jays need to cut Rajai and stop settling for mediocrity
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Davis is a fine bench outfielder. Great baserunner, can hit lefties a bit, and can play an averagish OF. I think he's sub par D in the OF, but his speed lets him cover for many of those glaring flaws. And he's fast, not always the smartest baserunner. But I have no objection to having him on the bench.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 averagish OF. ... Ehhh. I haven't seen his metrics in a while, but going by the eye test, he relies on his speed too much. Takes s*** routes to the ball. Usually has a bad arm (although for whatever reason sometimes has moments of brilliance/adrenaline). I don't really like him that much in the field. Although I certainly enjoy having him on the team.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I think people underrate him because of his very noticeable gaffes. He actually gets to a lot of balls though. 4 DRS and -2.7 UZR/150 in 5000 OF innings. I buy that. Yeah, that seems reasonable. I just don't like that he makes those gaffes in the first place. They're very basic fundamentals.
Nox Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I think he's sub par D in the OF, but his speed lets him cover for many of those glaring flaws. That's a pretty good summary. He looks like an idiot when he's defending but he's a fast idiot. So that mostly makes up for it.
Wilnercibia Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Oh, another reactionary thread. How is it a f***ing reactionary Thread? Davis has the lowest IQ on the team, and doesn't really give you anything except Speed Fielding: Bad Hitting: Bad Arm: Bad Baseball IQ: Very bad Ya really reactionary, when Reyes is back Davis will be glued to the bench forever. Gose has already passed Davis on the depth chart

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Davis is an excellent bench player. You can't have Bryce Harper on your bench guys.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 http://gamereax.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/rajaifall.gif Yep, that one gif should totally win this argument for you, because it's totally as valid as fair, reasoned discussion and statistics.
Wilnercibia Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Yep, that one gif should totally win this argument for you, because it's totally as valid is fair, reasoned discussion and statistics. I've watched enough baseball over the years to know that Davis is a pretty dumb fielder. He takes bad routes to balls and has terrible judgement. That play is just useful because it's his most recent gaff, there have been PLENTY more.

Yeah, nobody is saying he's a great fielder... he's a below average fielder that can make up for a lot of mistakes with his speed, which is EXACTLY what everyone in this thread has said about his fielding.

He let a ballboy take away an easy out without any words spoken. I would have beat the f*** outta KC's ballboy for that, atleast told him off

hummus Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 hopefully it's not the Jays that sign that contract obviously this thread bites me in the ass, give a guy enough ab's eventually he will hit a ball. even a broken clock is right twice a day

ReturnOfTheYeti Verified Member Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 There is no plausible reason for Rajai Davis to wake up a Blue Jay tomorrow. He is a 1 tool player and detrimental to this teams failure I kind of think that's not the way you wanted to word that. If he's detrimental to the team's failure, then that means he's hurting their failure, which means that he makes the team better. Probably just dropping off the word "failure" would have worked
Metallijay Verified Member Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 not everyone on the team needs to be a superstar....every good team has role players.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 then that means he's hurting their failure, which means that he makes the team better. Which he does, which means OP is right about something. Huh.
oakville69 Verified Member Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Davis is one of the best fourth outfielders in baseball. Crushes lefties, plays OK defense in centre, great base-stealer. Some team will give him a multi-year contract this offseason. Very true. He's also a great guy off the field. My daughter & I met him at the Jays camp sleepover in May 2011. very friendly & posed for pictures. He can steal his way from 1B to home if needed. His defence is not as good as Colby.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 My daughter & I met him at the Jays camp sleepover in May 2011. very friendly & posed for pictures. Holy crap, you were there too? O.O I think Rajai, Eric Thames, Marc Rzepcyznski, and someone else were the ones signing autographs there.
hummus Verified Member Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 So the collective agreement is that Rajai Davis is a solid player that will help Toronto get in the playoffs? OK got it
