TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 At least we'll probably get something for Johnson even if he's not traded. Oliver, Rajai, and Boni will walk for nothing. Assuming we don't qualify Boni - f*** paying that useless sack of s*** $3+ million. They should be looking to trade Rasmus as well. He's got enough value to bring us a young pitcher still in my mind. Gose comes up, we use Bonifacio or Rajai (obviously you wouldn't trade one of them) as back up this year and then next year you look for our own Craig Gentry (a CF that can hit lefties and play all 3 fields well), with Pillar as the minor league insurance. Fans won't like it but it's really one of the best baseball moves we can make at this point.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 +1 Lots of idiots here throwing AA under the bus. I fully realize the can of worms I'm probably opening with this, but I feel like a s*** disturber tonight. Why are people idiots for throwing a general manager - who is so inefficient at assembling starting pitcher depth that Esmil Rogers is spot starting - under the bus?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 They should be looking to trade Rasmus as well. He's got enough value to bring us a young pitcher still in my mind. I know a couple Mariners fans and I don't think there's a single one of them that wouldn't do a Colby Rasmus for Nick Franklin or James Paxton swap.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I will be quite upset if Perez or Wagner are sent down after stellar season debuts. We have Dickey on the mound tomorrow. Cecil, Delabar, Loup fresh for tomorrow. The roster move that should be made is Redmond being sent out for Negrych. I understand you have to DFA someone but Redmond was only going to be used if he absolutely had to. I don't even want them to think about bringing back McGowan until the deadline for an injured pitcher to be activated. Crawford, Redmond, Romero, Storey, Weber, and Gomez are all excellent DFA candidates. First of all Negrych shouldn't be added at all. That just causes even more of a roster pinch. If there is any thought of him having a chance to stick with this team as a utility guy you have to do it later in the year or after making deals at the deadline. As for the rest of it, when you have essentially a 3 man rotation right now, you have to save the pen. You do that by employing guys that have options, and after an outing (even a good one) you send them down and bring up fresh guy from the minors. Then he has to stay there for 10 days, time it well and bring him back up. Right now Thad, Crawford and Wagner are the only expendable arms with options. They will probably go back and forth until we have something close to 5 real starters again. You also use DFA candidates to get spot starts until then. It's not the best way to get back into contention but it's the team we have.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Perez is just a disaster waiting to happen. Wagner on the other hand looks promising.
itsawrap Verified Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Perez is just a disaster waiting to happen. Wagner on the other hand looks promising. Agreed. As good as he was tonight, he's an implosion waiting to happen in my opinion. A lot of these guys that AA has brought up have actually been decent for a couple outings before getting devastated. Our bullpen hasn't been the problem so far anyway. What's the market right now for a serviceable starter? I'm sure guys like Ramon Ortiz isn't the optimal choice in terms of cheap contracts. I guess we just gotta wait out the carousal until our guys come back.
admin Site Manager Posted May 30, 2013 Author Posted May 30, 2013 wow...the hatred for AA is too funny....AA does not use anyone in close games...john gibbons does. Who's rotting??..it's not even June.....there's lots of reason's why players are brought up and sent down..it's not like we sat on terrible relievers for several months..GM's make decisions..sometimes they are right..sometimes they are wrong. You'd think guys like storey and weber had been here for months by reading your post, but then you go the stats and see they both pitched less than 4 innings for the jays this year..lol...rotting...too funny. Didn't know I had to dumb it down for you to explain AA doesn't make the game decisions. Storey and Weber were here long enough to blow atleast one game off the top of my head, which is more than enough. Sorry if I'm not excited for a guy who had a 4.20ERA last year, when we have a guy who struck out 30 in 20IP, giving up 10H.
admin Site Manager Posted May 30, 2013 Author Posted May 30, 2013 Perez is just a disaster waiting to happen. Wagner on the other hand looks promising. Yeah, I made sure I noted I'm sure he will, but better to give him a chance than some of the other crap being ran out there.

Yeah, I made sure I noted I'm sure he will, but better to give him a chance than some of the other crap being ran out there. Why? I am legitimately asking the question. His stuff looked soooo dirty. But yet, he is basically a career minor leaguer. Look at he season he has put up in Buffalo. 0.86 era, small sample, but well below career norms. Do you expect him to completely lose control at some point? Get hit hard? Both? Or could ha have changed something?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Well we absolutely need another position player. So if not Negrych then who? Goins
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 SSS yes, but both these guys have had great numbers in AAA. Yet they sit down there while AA gets his flavor of the week, throws them in close games, they bomb, and he gets rid of them. I'm sure Perez will have some control problems with 4.5 BB/9, but man, he has some filthy stuff, and was on today. Because AA promised Buffalo a good team.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 If these guys keep it up, AA may be able to package them for a true veteran reliever. Imagine the stories Heath Bell could tell.

Or could ha have changed something? Good stuff but can't throw strikes. If he can get into a groove where he can consistently command everything he might go on a good 20-30 inning run for them. He clearly shouldn't be DFA'd. Give him a chance until he blows up and then dump him.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 3.92ERA/ 1.452WHIP 9M per year Awful 2.48 xFIP Peripherals sexier than Kate Upton Pretty ridiculous
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Calm down guys. These guys pitched against the team that leads the league in K's. Even that K against Justin Upton was on a ball outside, should have been a walk.

As Hurl or someone mentioned, last year in his short stint in the majors he walked a batter an inning (or close). Calm down guys. These guys pitched against the team that leads the league in K's. Even that K against Justin Upton was on a ball outside, should have been a walk. Wouldn't have mattered who he faced last night.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 In regards to Negrych... What does it take for a player to get full health coverage for the rest of their life, one appearnace in the bigs? I thought I read that somewhere before. Get this man some health insurance!!!

TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 So no one's giving Anthopoulos credit for pickings these guys off the scrap heaps? no because they could become the best relievers on the team and he still doesn't have room to keep them (while this isn't 100% true, at a minimum we'd be paying someone else to not play eating up their value)
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 no because they could become the best relievers on the team and he still doesn't have room to keep them (while this isn't 100% true, at a minimum we'd be paying someone else to not play eating up their value) one outing a star does not make. the band wagon is getting silly again.
admin Site Manager Posted May 30, 2013 Author Posted May 30, 2013 For the record, my post wasn't saying they are anything special after one outing, I was just saying they were doing great in AAA, and deserved a chance much sooner, rather than collecting other teams garbage.
