o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 For the record, my post wasn't saying they are anything special after one outing, I was just saying they were doing great in AAA, and deserved a chance much sooner, rather than collecting other teams garbage. I agree that they were better than some of the s*** AA has rotated in and out of the club in the first 2 months.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 bringing him up makes way too much sense for it to happen. Bringing Negrych up doesn't really make much sense.
Caper Verified Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 no because they could become the best relievers on the team and he still doesn't have room to keep them (while this isn't 100% true, at a minimum we'd be paying someone else to not play eating up their value) Gibbons just said Rogers signed originally to play shortstop (I assume as a young kid out of the DR). He seemed like the only player on the team that can bunt. Imagine if you could use a guy like him as a utility infielder and pitcher. He might not be the guy.... but I have been thinking about it a lot and what a player could do to increase their value.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Yeah, I made sure I noted I'm sure he will, but better to give him a chance than some of the other crap being ran out there. I agree, no harm in giving him a chance when he clearly earned it. Just think some people (not you), might be jumping the gun a bit after one good outing. His stuff was good, but he is going to have a tough time replicating that kind of success with that crazy delivery. It's no wonder he walks so many batters and at this level he will get exposed in a big way. That being said, I have no problem with him being a mop up guy until better alternatives become available.
Caper Verified Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 If the Jays ever have an obvious bunt situation in the AL (tie game in the ninth, runner on second, no outs), bring in Rogers! That guy knows how to bunt. I was thinking the same thing.... It seems we are the worst bunting team in the majors. Lately we have been a bit better.... But this guy goes up there and lays down two perfect bunts. Could be the best bunter on the team.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 SSS yes, but both these guys have had great numbers in AAA. Yet they sit down there while AA gets his flavor of the week, throws them in close games, they bomb, and he gets rid of them. I'm sure Perez will have some control problems with 4.5 BB/9, but man, he has some filthy stuff, and was on today. Perez' position after unloading the ball looked weird however I found his pitches had a lot movement. I hope they can find a way to fix any control problems he may have without impacting his stuff. Wagner also looked good - lots of gas which supplemented the slider really nicely.

His delivery is too wild. Likely to have very good and very bad outings. Consistency is something I wouldn't bet on with Perez.

Reminds me of League back when he was here. Not his delivery, but the speed and movement. It's almost like the pitches are so filthy with so much movement, you can't even control them. You have to throw it and hope it gets close.
