G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I have to say I've been beyond pleasantly surprised with Adam Lind this season. It's been one of the few good news stories this year. I was among MANY who would have very happy to see him dealt or dumped this off season and was specifically pining for having him replaced with Justin Morneau. (a player I'd love to see here regardless some day, and he even wants to play for the Jays he has said) In any case, so far this year: Lind .304/.401/.496/.897 with 4 HR, 20 BB, 22 K. Salary 5M Morneau .299/.348/.401/.749 with 2 HR, 13 BB, 29 K. Salary 13M We're getting better performance from Lind for 8 million dollars less. And he's 3 years younger. Will this last all year? Maybe, maybe not. But let's enjoy what we have. Good work Mottola and Lind. It's appreciated.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 Lind only 6 AB against lefties Really? Wow. Well that's obviously part of it. I wonder if Morneau's splits are any better.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I absolutely don't hate to say it. Lind is the only "named" jersey I've ever owned, and it's 'cause I have a huge mancrush on him and always have I kept a few seats open on the Lind bandwagon, but keep your damn dirty feet off my upholstery
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 I kept a few seats open on the Lind bandwagon, but keep your damn dirty feet off my upholstery LOL. Hahahahaha.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 BTW I'd trade my Lawrie jersey for almost any other player right now I'm a bit embarrassed to wear it actually
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Lind only 6 AB against lefties To be fair, in his SS season he didnt' do well against lefties. He crushed righties though, and that's what he's doing. Don't expect his performance against lefties to change at all. His approach at the plate this season is good and carrying over from ST. He really is being selective and not swinging at bad pitches. And anything hit outside is hit the otherway and not pulled.

Half this lineup (especially Rasmus, Lawrie and Arencibia, but even Edwin) could all learn from watching Lind and Kawasaki take at bats
Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 lind has been driving the ball the other way with authority, I think he should get mote at bats against lefties.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Half this lineup (especially Rasmus, Lawrie and Arencibia, but even Edwin) could all learn from watching Lind and Kawasaki take at bats Yeah yesterday I was surprised to see Edwin swing at two sliders waaaaay away, as if he was pulling an Arencibia and deciding to swing before the pitch is even thrown.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 The best thing about Lind's season is that it makes it less likely that we give up anything of value to acquire a guy like Morneau.
Sparky12 Verified Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Lind only 6 AB against lefties Who cares thats great management of him as he cant hit lefties. He has been great this far and hopefully keeps it up, now we just need a solid platoon option for him, and a solid bat off the bench.
Kelly Gruber Verified Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 lind has been driving the ball the other way with authority, I think he should get mote at bats against lefties. But then we instantly turn him into a .270 hitter. He never has and never will hit lefties so what they are by platooning him is perfect.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Lind only 6 AB against lefties he's only had 6 at bats against lefties, but he's looked entirely different against righties as well. His approach is different. His walk rate is way up. He's patient using all fields. He doesn't in any way resemble the adam lind of past year's. You give him significant bats against lefties and I think his ops would be above .700....with an ops against righties over .900 you're talking about a much more productive player than anyone expected.
admin Site Manager Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I'd like to see him get some chances vs lefties, even a short leash.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I'd like to see him get some chances vs lefties, even a short leash. The point is!!!............. Have a 1B/DH that can play every day.
Buster Verified Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I cant recall those 6 AB's...did he look ok, or lost in them?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 lind has been driving the ball the other way with authority, I think he should get mote at bats against lefties. It has nothing to do with driving the ball. It has to do with plate vision and the way he sees the ball coming to him. He can't see the ball coming from a lefty pitcher, which is why he can't hit them.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I cant recall those 6 AB's...did he look ok, or lost in them? I remember a lefty reliever made him look silly a couple weeks ago
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 He's 2-4 against Maholm It was a good day to see how he's vs lefties (Fear to the yips....ala Romero)
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 The best thing about Lind's season is that it makes it less likely that we give up anything of value to acquire a guy like Morneau. This. Exactly this.

How do you know it's strickly vision he tell you that?
SparkyAnderson Verified Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Lind has looked fantastic this year and I think it would be best not to mess with his success. Find a suitable platoon partner and let the good times roll.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 How about DeRosa? I was going to dismiss this out of hand, because y'know... DeRosa, but his splits this year (MAJOR SS ALERT!) are actually not bad... .235/.341/.559/.900 according to b-r.com... http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=derosma01&year=2013&t=b
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Like I've said before, the key to Lind's season right now his his O-swing rate. It is at 22.3% compared to his career 32.5% (this is quite a difference). His plate discipline this year is about the same as Bautista's 2010-2013. His discipline has been incredible this year, and let's hope this is a change he has worked at, and can keep going.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 great example of the polish to lindy right now vs rasmus. Against the best closer in the game lindy somehow lays off a tough slider on a 1-2 pitch and takes a walk...colby swung at would have been ball 4 in a 3-2 count and put runners on 1st and 2nd with none out...I'm not hating on Rasmus....I'm actually like what he's been doing lately..he just needs a touch more polish and he could be very dangerous.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 29, 2013 Author Posted May 29, 2013 BTW I'd trade my Lawrie jersey for almost any other player right now I'm a bit embarrassed to wear it actually I will trade you my Orlando Hudson jersey from 2004 for it. Except that one
