Looking up total career BA/OBP can be misleading sometimes

 

When we traded Escobar and got Reyes I was surprised to see that they had almost identical career OBP's. However, Reyes' career numbers were skewed by 2-3 bad years when he was very young as you can see above. Escobar didn't appear in MLB until he was older and was good from the start. If you do this graph comparing those two, its very obvious who the better hitter is now...

I wouldn't say that. 60 million over 4 years with an opt out after 2 years, would be a good deal for both parties. He is not at this point an upper echelon pitcher. He will get a 100 million dollar contract if he keeps this up... but with him that's a big if.

I hope they stay far away from Johnson after this season... he's the most injury prone pitcher on the planet and he's not even an elite pitcher anymore without his 98 mph fb.

Does Wilner really believe that any team will offer Josh Johnson 7/150 in the offseason? That is very unlikely.

 

Wilner did explain that if the Jays are in the playoff race in July &they will keep him for the year & make a qualifying offer & take the draft picks.

 

If the Jays are out of the race at the end of July,they will trade him at the deadline.

 

I assume AA will know by the end of the year if Romero,Drabek & Hutchison will be ready for 2014.

unless johnson really turns it around he's going to be signing a short term deal....I wouldn't mind it if he signed a reasonable one or two year contract with the jays if he committed to the delabar program in the offseason..lol. Johnson still throws 93, 94 mile an hour which is still good....he still hasn't pitched a lot this season...we will see how the rest of the season goes..

I might be taking the comments out of context (didn't hear it), but Adam Lind was good with runners on base last year. Really good, actually.

I really think having both Johnson and Morrow in the rotation is kind of scary. Both are the same guy. Injury prone pitchers with good hard pitches (Fastbal, Slider) but they dont change speeds well enough so are prone to be hit hard.

Agree that McCown has zero issues with job security but his "curmudgeonous" is an arranged agreement with him and Rogers.

Rogers realize that having an on-air personality that allows slamming of the Mother Corp and being the Howard Stern of sports-talk is great for business.....but having every on air personality doing the same isn't.

They also have a directive for other on-air personalities to praise Bob-Cat and quake in his footsteps and build-up the McCown brand which in-turn builds up the Rogers brand!

My local BBC radio station here in England gets exactly the same 'special' callers for the phone-in about the football team. I have two thoughts on this:

 

1. every sports team around the world likely has its 'casual fans' shouting loudest.

2. the more thoughtful fans cannot complain if they themselves do not call in.

 

It is generalising, of course, but you'd think that those who do call in do so because of an emotional, passionate need. That doesn't usually tally with thoughtful commentary. But I'd couple that with another suggestion: nobody should blame fans for being 'casual'; many people are up at 7am for work, home after 6p, time for a shower and dinner and seeing the kids, and then just enough time to squeeze in a little sport on TV, i.e. too many other things to do other than invest time into one sport.
