metafour Verified Member Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I don't even agree with sending him to Vancouver, send him to Lansing and see what happens. The jump from Vancouver to Lansing is not a big one. That is why the Northwest League is classified as "Class A Short Season", whereas the Midwest League is just "Class A". The Northwest League (Vancouver) is a college-aged league. It is an appropriate level for a newly drafted college player.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Hopefully he can maintain that strikeout to walk ratio at the next level
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Any reports on his stuff?

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Didn't get to watch game What did they do? 1,2,3 for norris. hit 95 & 96 mph a few times, very good offspeed. Pompey got hard hit singles off of hard velocity

flafson Verified Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Pompey is already better than Gose. Will you be able to say that once he comes to the majors? I don't know....
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Anyone able to find video of Norris and Pompey today? Thanks.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Will you be able to say that once he comes to the majors? I don't know.... Pompey is better than Gose by a wide margin. Gose probably has the better arm, and could be a bit better defensively. Offensively, Pompey is in a different stratosphere. Watch his at bats from today's game and google his in game videos. Compare his approach to Gose's and you won't need to ever wonder again. His FSL numbers and BB% and low K% don't lie. Let's see how he adjusts to AA, which he seems to be coming around. I'm 100% convinced if you threw Pompey in the MLB right now,he'd be an overall better player than Gose.

I would it expect it might take a while longer, trying to get the reps in on both sides. But I agree with the sentiment. Would expect to see him patrolling the out field in 2016.

Gose is an elite CF defensively. We get it, you're excited, just as everyone else is. However you can stop with these unsubstantiated claims, getting a bit silly out here.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 I didn't see this posted anywhere yet, great write up FAP away Roberto Osuna, RHP, Blue Jays Osuna made his much-anticipated return to the mound this past week after undergoing Tommy John surgery last summer. Pitching for the Blue Jays' Gulf Coast League team, Osuna was sharp in his only inning of work. He threw about 15 pitches, all fastballs, but it was a very encouraging step for him. When a player comes back from this type of surgery, the velocity isn't always there right away and the same can be said for the control and command. This was not the case for Osuna. His mechanics were sound. He's still sporting the low-effort, smooth delivery he's always had, and showed no rust in this department. He was pumping an easy 95-97 with his fastball while locating to both sides of the plate. He was repeating his delivery and attacking hitters from the first pitch of the game. This type of aggressiveness is another positive in his return. He was neither reluctant nor hesitant when going after hitters. Having said all of this, the thing I came away most impressed with was his body. The hard-throwing Osuna has had some concerns about his thick frame in the past, but he looked very fit, strong and comfortable with his current build. It's obvious he has taken his conditioning seriously during his time off, and to me that speaks volumes about where his head is. He's taking his rehab seriously and seemed to be champing at the bit to get back into game action. With this kind of debut, Osuna will once again be a very popular name in the prospect world much sooner than later, and rightly so. —Chris King

Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Mikeleelop (wmkl): Pompey had four good AB's yesterday but does his start at AA cause for concern? Jeff Moore: No, it's far too early to worry about him in Double-A. That's the hardest jump in the minors to make and it's only been 15 games.

And the other thing which I kind of expected.... from Shi's article. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/futures-bright-for-toronto-blue-jays-prospects-daniel-norris-dalton-pompey/ “What really gets frustrating is when you hit the ball hard or do something positive but the game of baseball reacts to it as if it’s negative,” says Pompey. “I’m trying to take a step back and realize what you did and analyzing the situation, trying not to overreact because when you let the negativity pile up, you dig yourself into a hole you can’t get out of. In New Hampshire, for example, I’ve been having great at-bats and everybody that’s shown up is telling me that, but on paper it doesn’t show that right now.” You can only see so much reading box scores.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Mikeleelop (WMKL): How does Pompey compare vs. Gose? Pompey seems to have a much more advanced approach at the plate while Gose is faster with a stronger arm.. Jeff Moore: They're pretty different players. Gose is all speed and arm, but has never really hit all that much, and probably won't. He certainly won't hit lefties. Pompey is a much better hitting prospect than Gose ever was, but if he ends up not hitting, his defense isn't strong enough to carve out a major league career like Gose will probably be able to do.

How is Pompey's arm? From what I hear Pompey's defence sounds like he has about the same range as Colby (hopefully not afraid of the outfield wall) and a little better arm. At least I would hope because Colby has a terrible arm.
