burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Too bad his glove doesn't profile to stay at SS. Even if he can play 2nd he will be very valuable if the bat keeps improving through the levels.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Or CF. Has he had reps there?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Has he had reps there? No, but he's got the range. Didn't someone stick a Victorino comp on him?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Even if he can play 2nd he will be very valuable if the bat keeps improving through the levels. Pedroia bat + Altuve glove
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Pimp-foley, Evan Smith, Maybe Hoffman, Brentz, Patrick Murphy, Perdomo and Nick Wells plus draftees. Pick the best and go If Hoffman can come back strong and dealing I think we'll see him in AA fairly quickly.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 If Hoffman can come back strong and dealing I think we'll see him in AA fairly quickly. nah uh, its either Vancouver or Dunedin for him. I'm thinking Dunedin because they can control innings and keep an eye on him
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Who's gonna be in the rotation? Pimp-foley, Evan Smith, Maybe Hoffman, Brentz, Patrick Murphy, Perdomo and Nick Wells plus draftees. Pick the best and go My best guess would be SRF, Brentz, Smith, Murphy, Tirado, Smoral to start the year.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 No, but he's got the range. Didn't someone stick a Victorino comp on him? I would rather have him at 2nd base than CF all things being equal. Much harder position to fill.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 nah uh, its either Vancouver or Dunedin for him. I'm thinking Dunedin because they can control innings and keep an eye on him They probably have him pitch in the GCL then move him to Dunedin much like what they did with Osuna.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Pedroia bat + Altuve glove Apparently he's hit or miss at SS. Can make some amazing plays but botches routine outs. If he can find consistency he can stick but it might be better to move him to 2B where he has the athleticism to excel.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Depends where he is at when they break extended Spring. If he's healthy they'll challenge him. When did he officially have TJS? I could see him in extended and then move him to Dunedin in May/June. How many innings do you think he throws next year?

Sometimes guys just need the reps.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Much as a lot of Posters bitch at AA and call for his head the talent level in the minors has been way better than we ever had during the Riccardi years. Christ I think of the wasted years where we had a farm system always in the bottom 5 and it wasn't like we were trading talent . we had none.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Vancouver? Smith + Smoral + Tirado ------> Lansing Brentz + SRF ---------> Bluefield I could see Perdomo being sent to Vancouver. Wells probably to Bluefield. Not sure if Murphy is eligible to play in the GCL again, he might have one more year remaining. His assignment is really dependent on how he shows in EST. IMO Considering SRF was in Vancouver for the playoffs I would assume he could skip Bluefield. Hell if he has a really good Spring maybe send him to Lansing.

How many innings do you think he throws next year? May, think he supposed to be back before then though. Not too sure where he'll be at for innings. I think he'll likely finish around 100IP if all goes to plan.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Riccardi was good at managing the MLB roster, AA with scouting and getting minor league talent. Would be nice if we could have someone that could do both.

Tough to say because Hutch is pitching almost 2 years after surgery while Hoffman's would be only 1 year.

IMO Smoral, Tirado and Smith still have a lot to prove at the level. I don't think they will be there long but that's where I think they start. I think the hope is all can 3 can get some innings in Dunedin and reach AA in 2016.
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Vancouver is short season. They start later than the other leagues and typically are full of college draftees. I'd think some of the guys mentioned won't be in Vancouver but start in Lansing or Dunedin so their seasons start earlier and they can accumulate more innings
43211234 Verified Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I'd be shocked if Tirado wasn't given a second shot in full season ball and was held back at Vancouver again. I think he'll be in Lansing.

I think he'll be in Lansing. I wouldn't be shocked at all. Tirado was terrible this year. I think he needs to go back to extended spring and work on his mechanics.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Him and Labourt are going to start in Lansing, that's what a roving pitching instructor had said during an interview I listed to awhile back. I definitely missed that. Labourt should be in full season ball next year though. Thanks for sharing.

Tirado needs a lot of work and EST he can get the extra instruction it appears he needs. That beings aid apparently the Jays have said he'll be in Lansing next year so it's a moot point.
spats Verified Member Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 They may have had a better record under JP but nowhere near the upside that this club has now with a bevy of strong arms in the minors ( Osuna, Hoffman, SRF, Labourt, Smoral etc) to follow Sanchez, Norris and Graveman to the majors. The future is bright.
