Buehrle is pretty exceptional though. He has plus plus defense and a plus plus pickoff move. All those extra outs are really the secret to his success. Hard model to emulate.

Being a lefty helps Buehrle in that regard too! Still Graveman has a decent FB, definitely MLB quality and heavy sink. He's not a lock to be a MlBer but I see his floor as a swingman.

Does anyone out there get to see the Vancouver games in person? They must be such an exciting team to watch...they have three or four stolen bases most nights and as a team have more than double the sb than almost all the other teams. They are also hitting almost .270 as a team with a whack of players over .300. Is Barreto the only legit prospect on that team...Locastro, Carlson, McBroom?

Barreto and Urena are the only legit position prospects, Locastro is interesting because of his hbp totals. If that is a skill then we might have something.

Does anyone think the Bisons don't want to win? There's like 10 guys that have a chance to come up if the season ends tommorow.

Pompey 2/4. CF is looking crowded. I can't see any possible good scenario in which Rasmus comes back.

Line drive double and a SB,this kid can flat out play. IMO, he can already outperform Gose and Pillar in the MLB.

Buffalo eliminated from postseason contention due to Pawtucket's likely win and Buffalo's loss.

Expect lots of callups tomorrow to meet them at the Trop when the Jays play the Rays. Rays BTW, are only calling up a C and two pitchers (Casali, Geltz, Gomes) since Durham is in the playoffs.

Pompey 4 for 5 with 2 doubles so far today. The Bisons have 19 hits today.

The kid has got some skills. How refreshing will it be if he continues this in the MLB? Switch hitting lead off hitter who plays a solid CF with 40 SB type speed. IMO, his approach at the plate is so simple that it's hard to think he won't succeed in the bigs.

That statement can be applied to many who come up and fail. JBJ would be a recent example.

Could the Jays send Tellez to Vancouver for the playoffs?

What are the rules for moving minor league players for the playoffs?

Just Vancouver and Dunedin. SRF promoted to Vancouver. Pretty nice pitching with Smoral, SRF, Labourt, Borucki, Tirado

That's one "Pimp" staff... Talent everywhere. Love Borucki.

Borucki has some great numbers but he apparently sits in the high 80s with his fastball.

Yeah but he is also coming back from TJS and still has room to fill out. I could see him gaining a little bit velocity to be sitting in the 90-92 range which would be a plus fastball from the left side. Apparently he has a plus curveball already so if he stays healthy he can at least be a reliever.

No plus velocity for a lefty is 94 mph. If his fastball has good life on it, you make 90-92 mph an excellent pitch if he develops solid command

Someone just asked a question about Pierre........... this is gonna be good

Comment From Fish

How about this Pierre fellow the Phils just got from Toronto?

12:18

Kiley McDaniel: Gustavo Pierre, another guy I saw last week in the FSL. He's 22 and still can't hit but he's got a huge arm. Scouts have been saying for years he should go on the mound because he's a big athletic guy with a live body. Gotta think that's coming soon.

Wasn't his problem that he couldn't find the first baseman's mitt or was it that he couldn't field the ball?

Other Jays related stuff..

Just saw him a couple days ago. Velo is up, 93-96 early, was told he hit 97 in other starts. Cutter flashed plus and slider is 55 as is the change. Delivery is okay but all top half and the command came and went, velo settled in low 90s. He's improved but not quite sure what this turns into.

He also said some scouts like Norris over Stroman long term even though he is a Stroman guy. Not sure what to make of the Osuna comment. Velo sounds fantastic but the delivery sounds pretty bad.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/how-much-extra-credit-should-we-give-a-lefty-starter/

"Left-handed starters: 90.6 mph average fastball, 20.3% K, 7.1% BB

So if Escobar could sit over 91 mph as a starter, his velocity would indeed be above-average for a lefty starter. Of course it’s an issue of supply, as only 30% of the sample was left-handed. That means fewer 95 mph guys, fewer Danny Salazars, fewer chances at big velocity."
