So why are we not considered a contender for next year? With a few good moves this winter ( signing Melky being one of them),we are in this.

Easy is it? Tell me the weaknesses and how will you fix them

Melky does not play a passable left field, he's actually one of the worst in Baseball, this is one those things where the eye test and the stats align perfectly.

Honest question: What do we do when the eye test and stats don't align?

LOL.. Are you trying to tell me that Melky starting in LF versus Gose doesn't equate into more wins?

I didn't say it was easy. There are free agents out there, and not block buster types, that can help, starting with adding SP depth. AA may have no choice but to trade one or two of our pitching prospects for a capable starting middle infielder or third baseman.

No choice? Of course he has a choice.... but a contender needs both young controllable contributors along with the pricey veterans. There is only so much money in the kitty. Jays do not have enough low cost youth to build a contender. Trading youth would be counterproductive.

f***ing nuts to think Gose is a 4th OF. He has a .350 OBP this year in a sizable MLB sample with GG defense, and still has upside. I can see him being a consistent 3 WAR OF as a starter.

.334 obp with .625 ops with 49k in 175ab

He leaves a lot to be desired at bat

Exactly. We don't want to end up like the Yankees, who have pricey vets and are struggling to contend with a declining roster. Or a better example, the Phillies, whose refusal to rebuild has left the roster needing an Astros-style blowup. We have to develop young pitching to supplement our core.

Holy Edwin Escobar was horrid.. I thought this guy was a top prospect.

Nevertheless, the Bisons will enjoy this victory (15-2 as we speak). Only 1 game out of a playoff spot!

Dat superficial analysis...

I think the eye test for defence is only useful in the minor leagues and when you don;t have enough of a sample size, if that's not the case i always go with the defensive metrics. If the metrics say someone is a terrible defender over a huge sample size(like over 3 years worth of innings) than that's what true regardless of what your eyes will tell you.

Goins 4 for 5 with 3 doubles tonight. He should be up with the Jays just for his defense alone. Their infield defense is brutal.

Is it possible for someone to be a bust just two months after being drafted? lol

Because Matt Morgan has been absolutely horrid. He's hitting .090 with a 4 wRC+ in a complex league.

Posted
He's been the worst hitter in the GCL (min. 100 PAs) by some margin. Next worst guy is 24 wRC+.

Pretty atrocious.. He hasn't exactly been raising eyebrows.

it's really hard to imagine him becoming an impact player at the major league level, lol.

He has 1 hit in the month of august, yeesh.

I bet even I could hit .100 in the GCL. lol

Hey. How about Graveman? Great night. The most awesome s***** line I have seen.

His homer rate is really low. I would think for a "s***** control prospect" that's atleast a good sign.

As per comparison Josh Towers gave up 12, 26 and 17 homers in his 3 full (a, aa, and aaa) minor league seasons. Towers ERA was a lot higher as well.

Just saying that a lot times Josh Towers comes to mind when I think about these s***** control pitchers who dominate the minor leagues. But this guy looks different.

He's a groundballer I assume?

Did goins get hurt? Pulled early today

Hit on the hand by a pitch. Retaliation for last night's game apparently. That sort of stupidity is much more common in the minor leagues.

Wallace 3 HR today, including walk-off GS in the 12th....LOL. The Ninja built a contender...too bad it's in Buffalo.

Kyle Schwarber...joining the Cubs big 5? Seriously this is prototype rebuild. Time to deal for pitching

Love the way Chicago rebuilt their team. Going to be really scary when 2016 rolls around

I hope for their sake they sign one of Lester/Shields/Scherzer or they are going to be very desperate for some arms.

I doubt it. They have so much offensive depth, they should be able to acquire a good starter when they need it. Already have Arrieta, Wood is a capable back end starter (projected 4.24 FIP from zips) as well as Wada.

Hendricks has put up pretty solid numbers so far too.

Thing I don't understand is his HR/9 in the minors is rediculously low, but when he gets called up everything is a deep fly ball or home run.

Minor league hitting is different from major league hitting.
