.320 BABIP isn't that high for a guy with his speed, and I don't know why you view walks as a negative.

Is there really a strong correlation between speed and BABIP?

Also, did you try out the PR stuff sent you?

Huh. His 12.5 % rate is obviously good but is higher than all of his walk rates in the minors , thus regression. Thought it would of been assumed 12.5 was high for Gose.

Yes, and so far so good (I think). I'll PM you later if I get a lot done on it. Thanks a lot.

No problem. You can send me any questions or if you want me to review your work. Excel is a useful skill to have.

Is it just me or do the Jays have about 0 legit position prospects outside of Pentecost. (don't consider Gose a prospect and even he's meh)

Part of me wants the jays to blow it up so we can get some prospects that might actually contribute at the major league level besides pitching. All of our recent graduations have all blown to various extents. Arencibia, Lawrie, Gose, Goins, Sierra, Snider etc.

It's just frustrating that they can't improve the major league team through $, and they have no reinforcements coming through the organization. Add in the likely departures of both Melky and Rasmus with likely nothing of significance replacing Cabrera and it makes for a bit of an annoying time as a jays fan.

Dalton Pompey?

Pompey looks good, I don't know why I skipped him when I was writing that up. Still, only having two guys that are possible legit bats is kind of pathetic considering you have to go all the way back to Lind and Hill for the last time the Jays actually developed some hitters that could hit at the MLB level. Nobody else has for any period of time other than dingers (JPA) (Lawrie is hurt so much that who knows how good/bad he'll be long term)

It takes a few years from your drafts for the talent to get to the MLB. They have few Position Player prospects but they also have one of the deepest collections of pitching prospects of any team as well. My guess the org puts a premium on developing pitching because no free agent is going to want to pitch at RC and in the AL East.

We've had some pretty crappy drafts recently

Jays suck at drafting position players. They acknowledged as much when they went so pitching heavy in 2013.

Are you guys gonna let this ******** fly? Provide proof they've drafted poorly or shut up.

I just watched Miguel Castros start last night. I am a witness!

My first thought is how skinny he is. 6'5 190 frame at 19 y/o, he throws mid to upper 90s and he hasn't even filled out yet.

Anyway, this was a fantastic start. 2 of the 3 hits against him were infield singles, there was only 1 hard hit ball all night and that came off a first pitch fastball in the 7th. A lot of weak contact was induced. All 3 of his strikeouts were against left handed hitters, who were fooled by his changeup.

Orgfiller wants to know how many swinging strikes he had?

Should be interesting to see what they do with Barreto/Urena, defensively (both currently SS).

Barreto to 2b?

could be future double play combination

You know the season is over when the prospect/minor league thread is the most active.

It’s not over [if you’re a birdbrained derp-head].

.266 wOBA in A. Yeah pretty much a bust.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but man if the Jays drafted one of Gallo, Seager, Wacha, Berrios instead. *fap* *fap*

Same in 2013 if we got Peterson or Crawford instead of Bickford. I know we wouldn't have one of Hoffman/Pentcost. Heck if we kept Yan Gomes we could have drafted Hoffman still.

Darn you hindsight!

The market adjusts and the Jays seems just a little bit behind the curve. Moneyball made unathletic plate discipline guys fashionable to the point where they went from being underrated to vastly overrated (see David Cooper) then in reaction to that pure athleticism may have become overrated (D.J. Davis). Lately we're seeing a market adujustment on pure athletes (Jacob Gatewood going 41st in the last draft).

Here is the problem though, if Jacob Gatewood becomes a bust people will say they shouldn't have drafted him 41st overall. There is no winning. Hindsight has people acting like Deck McGuire was a reach or too safe when the mocks had him there.

Yes. Of course. Every mlb draft bust can be explained by overvaluing moneyball principals.

Hi KingKat

I'm not sure either of these cases have anything to do with "the market". Both are either a scouting failure or bad luck.

David Cooper was envisioned to be a good line drive hitter. John Olerud lite. Kind of a .290 .350 .450 guy with low strike-outs. He struggled in aa then got a pretty bad injury.

D.J. Davis was envisioned to be a Devon White... not even close.

So the 1992/1993 Jays hit paydirt with all kinds of different players... the unathletic hitter (Olerud), the tools guy (Devon White), the old professional hitter (Winfield/Molitor). The young "franchise" (Alomar).

Flash forward to 2010ish

Snider, Cooper, Gose, Davis, the slop ballers, Josh Johnson, Emilio, even Hech... and maybe most all Lawrie (2010s version of "franchise"). Different types of players... they all missed for some reason.
