Rickey Romero has really pitched well tonight. He gave up 3 runs in the last inning... but was about as snake bitten as you can get. 7K 1BB. 58 strikes in 91 pitches so far.

A prospect I like... has a chance to make the majors... is....Jorge Flores, playing in Lansing.... I think he has a shot to make the majors some day.

Norris > Smoral = Romero ??

I don't if you're serious but stop, 19 year old growing man child coming off injuries and doesn't have consistent mechanics. I bet he will be better then any pitching prospect not named Sanchez

Sarcasmos.

Smoral is one of the most promising left-handed pitchers we have in the minor league system.

1-Norris

2-Smoral

3-Nolin

4-Labourt?

Yeah really excited about Pillar. The Jays line up desperately needs this type of hitter in the line up.

Jimenez 1-3 with two walks today. Holding his own in AA, batting .400. I think they should fast track him to Buffalo, but let him play at least one full season there before considering him, assuming he plays well of course. His defense alone should get him here.

Pillar ends the day 4/6 with a HR, 2B, SB and assist.

The executive summary for Blue Jays management is: 24 year old outfielder hit a home run.

Hahahahaha

Looks like Nay is off to a good start, I know it's a SSS, but I like the 6 BB's in 37 AB's. Another one doing well in Bluefield is Derrick Loveless and he has 5 BB's in 31 AB's. Davis is doing well as well, but striking out quite a bit.

Does the site have people that watch games live from Vancouver and post on the board? Just curious. My nephew pitched for the first time tonight in Vancouver and I just wondered if there is much analysis on the message board from people that see it live and have a clue in terms of baseball knowledge.

That's sweet, who is he? I hope he does well.

Welcome to "Deadpool gets pedantic", in this episode we discuss the fact that BBs should be compared to PAs and not ABs.

Thanks for watching!

I personally haven't seen any Vancouver games live, but we often have people who watch games and offer opinions. Seemed to have a pretty decent line in a short start though. 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1K 0 BB. He's starting, so that's a good sign, but he'll obviously need to be stretched out before we see if he stays as a starter or moves to relief.

Matt Dermody. IowaJay was in another thread discussing him. Pretty fun to have relatives of players around, offering a look that we don't typically get.

Actually, he was in relief last night in Vancouver. He took the loss, but actually pitched pretty well. His first inning was clean, striking out the 3rd batter on a 92 mph fastball. The 2nd inning was when they got a run on him. A base hit was followed by a sac bunt, ground out to 1B and a bunt for a hit RBI. He got the next guy on a pop up. He took the loss, as the game was tied when he came in. It appeared though that he pitched well.

I am able to listen to games online, so that is awesome. He was actually the player of the game and interviewed after the game - again awesome. It was Canada day, and the crowd was very into the game - loud most of the game. In reality, pitching at a school like Iowa, he probably hasn't pitched in front of many crowds like that. The only comparison would be the state championship game he pitched - a long time ago. He said in his interview that pitching at Nebraska was close to that.

I know some stadiums are known for fast or slow guns. Anyone know about the gun at Vancouver? He was hitting 91-92 instantly when he came in the game. In college, as a starter, he generally sat more in the 88-90 range. I just wonder if he approached it differently as a reliever, was just throwing it up there due to adrenaline, etc. I am hoping that they ultimately give him a look as a reliever - obviously a better chance to advance at this point would be as a lefty reliever.

As i said in the other thread, get him to ask people about the Steve Delabar program. Blue Jays have exclusive rights with the guy who made that program, it got Delabar from being out of baseball to back in it throwing 95-97 mph and Brett Cecil was in a huge decline with his velocity throwing 89 mph back to throwing 92-94 mph.

That program involves weighted balls mimicking the hitting action of a tennis racket. So they would use those ball to throw in the air but still hold them in the hand. It strengthen shoulder muscles big time and helps with durability.

D'oh, my mistake, I was looking at his GCL numbers, not his NOR numbers...

Hard to say anything without anything but the numbers in front of me, but he doesn't seem to be walking anyone so far, so that's a good thing.

http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=571616 is about all I can use at this point.

Personally, I would hope that he stays as a starter as long as possible in the minors and convert him to a reliever if and when that's deemed the best thing for him, it's pretty rare for a guy to move all the way up the ranks as a reliever, usually they're a starter for a bunch of levels and converted around AA/AAA. Of course, that's not always the case.

Deadpool,

I agree on the starting, definitely. However, since he has never really been a reliever at any point in his career. Other than a few relief appearances his freshmen year in college, he has been a starter his entire career going back to high school. It would be interesting to see if his velocity sits 92+ in relief appearances, as that wasn't the case as a starter.
