theblujay Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 I'm pumped for the Bluefield season to start! Do we know why Davis isn't on the team after playing there and VAN last year?
Caper Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I see Gustavo Antonio Pierre is starting in Dunedin tonight.... a promotion. I wonder where that leaves Andy Burns? Fisher Cats?

He is All-West Coast Conference 3x! Totally legit against several 1st and 2nd round (and later round) pitchers. Kalfus as also one of only 10 players total out of 8 states and Canada to be awarded a Capital One Academic All American District 8 in 2013. He is a complete player.

Caper Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 AJ Jimenez is a god dam stud. Catcher of the future..... great defense + more the adequate hitting equals.... awesome.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 ASG was last weekend, First half of the season ended today. Should be promoted soon, nobody blocking him in AA Thanks, looking forward to following him at NH, he may be an option to move to 2B.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 AJ Jimenez is a god dam stud. Catcher of the future..... great defense + more the adequate hitting equals.... awesome. 3-3 tonight with a 2B and an RBI. Transitioning to AA doesn't seem to be a problem so far. I'm starting to get excited about this guy because he has seemed to have found something offensively. We all know what he can do defensively. It's funny how he can emerge as a solid every day MLB catcher. He may even turn out to be a better every day player than d'Arnaud.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Holy s***, he's on fire. Travis d'Arnaud 2010 A+ wRC: 107 AJ Jimenez 2011 A+ wRC: 115 Means nothing but kinda cool. He's been incredible this year and I hope he keeps this up.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Jimenez just smoked a double to right center that scored Loewen from first. Now 4-4 tonight with two doubles and two RBI's. Now hitting .515 with a 1.183 OPS in AA.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Make that 4 for 4 with 2 doubles. Lol,you beat me to it. Love the fact that he uses the whole field, great approach.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 The fact that his last double to right center was hit on a line in a hitter's count (2-1) indicates that he isn't pull happy, and is content on hitting the ball where it's pitched. You got to love it.
Caper Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I wish they were taking reps with 3rd base with him... That's how I'd play him... split between catcher and 3rd.

He's way more valuable at catcher. It probably doesn't matter anyway,AA will probably trade him at the deadline for Utley.

I think he is too. I think it would just help him get a place to play. They are not going to give up on JPA anytime soon. He has a rocket for an arm and can field.... He eventually should be a full time catcher.

ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 A.J.'s contact skills are just ridiculous. He doesn't take a lot of walks, but he's not going to strikeout a ton either, and he can steal bases. I see him being a Jose Altuve type at the plate (high average, not a lot of walks, lots of contact, steals, very little power), but with plus defense at a premium position. That would be a pretty good player. With ability to hit for average, avoid the strikeout, make contact, and play defense he's like the anti-Arencibia.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 this depresses me. f*** JP f***ing right.. A.J improves the team on defense alone. If Jimenez keeps this up into next year,AA will be a fool not to trade JPA (as long as he keeps his power numbers going). Defense at the catcher's spot is way too important. BTW,Jimenez is leading off the next inning.

Could be the next Yadier Molina, but more athletic.

It's all good bro. Iv'e been around long enough to know how to except unmet expectations. Let's have some fun for now.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Looks like Jimenez will finish off the night 4-5 (two doubles, two RBI's).

Alan farina went from Dunedin to New Hampshire, he might just be filling that spot, but it would be nice to see BUrns go up, at 22 if he can perform in AA, he might put himself in the conversation for 2b in a few years. Way ahead of ourselves but what the heck.
