KLaw said in his draft scouting report "Nay played third in high school but doesn't have the feet to stay in the infield and will probably end up in right."

But he also questioned the hit tool, giving it a present 30 future 45.

I would think a present 30 HT is probably one of the best in our system. :P

Really interested in seeing how Nay, Alford, Davis et al do this year.

Anderson still isn't a bust.........he might crush this year for all we know. They are only prospects in the grand scheme of things.

I don't think someone who strikes out 40% of the time is going to mash this year, but damn do I hope so.

Hey, Kevin Pillar probably has a present 35-40.

I'd put it at a bit more than that, but he's the only one.

Can someone tell me how Kenny (Kenneth) Wilson is hitting .268... with a .400 BABIP? That's Rasmus-esque lol.

Extended Spring Training Stats

http://www.battersbox.ca/article.php?story=20130611154539804&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

2013 Hitters

The top OPS in extended belong to Andy Fermin, Matt Hitt, Michael De La Cruz and Daniel Arcila. These are older players. De La Cruz was signed as a 20 year old Dominican free agent last season. He is on the DSL team and is hitting well, he might get a promotion to North America at some point.

Most of the players OPS are in a tight range. The exceptions are Davis, DeSouza and Urena, three of the youngest players in camp. What of the K rate? Barreto, Lugo and Nay have the lowest K rates. In Barreto's case it is because he swings at almost everything, he rarely walks. Lugo and Nay have the stats that were most predictive in 2012.

On the other side Alford has a good OPS but strikes out a lot, expected for a guy coming late into camp without much experience. Anderson is striking out a lot.

2013 Assignments

Based on experience, 2012 assignements, and these numbers I would assume Thon and Dean would head to Vancouver as the more experienced pair. Lugo and Nay would go to Bluefield. Barreto, Cenas and Urena would stay in the GCL. Anderson was in Bluefield last season, he could go to either Vancouver or Bluefield. Alford looks like he is headed to Vancouver, Davis might go to Bluefield if on the field results are the determing factor.

All of these pitchers pitched between 28 and 38 innings. Chase DeJong is best in WHIP, and it is DeJong and Cardona who have the best numbers for K rate and K:BB ratio. Tirado has good strikeout numbers but has walked a few too many. Wasilewski who looked good when I was in Dunedin has walked far too many.

Brisker is a converted outfielder, a la Justin Jackson. Tyler Gonzalez was battling control problems when I was in Dunedin, he has pitched just 6 innings. Smoral is often injured and he has just 13 innings so far this season and he walked 11, versus 8 strikeouts, in 13.2 innings..

2013 Assigments

The Vancouver rotation will probably be made up of more experienced players from 2012, such as Deivy Estrada, Jeremy Gabryszwski, Carlos Pina, maybe hometown boy Tom Robson and Colton Turner was headed that way before being called to sub in for Daniel Norris. Kyle Anderson is another option. Bluefield's rotation will likely include Chase DeJong, Adonys Cardona, Alberto Tirado, Zak Wasilewski and Jairo Labourt.

How fast can AJ Jiminez be pushed thru the minors?

Could he end the year at AAA and potentially make this team out of spring training next season?

Posted
If he plays well......sure. I don't think we see him until Sept 14' though.

One can only hope. I'm actually quite surprised we didn't go for a polished college catcher early in this draft.

Why? We have good catchers coming up through the system.

A.J. and Nessy(Moreso being farther away then unhealthy)haven't exactly been the picture of health. I figured a 2nd or 3rd rd college junior/senior who was legit but could be signed below slot was in the works. Then again I've never had the prospect know-how of most of you guys.

That's the absolute FASTEST I would push him.

Not entirely true. We have Christian Bethancourt-lite in Jimenez who may not hit and is oft-injured, and Santiago Nessy who could essentially turn out to be JPA - low hit tool, high power, bad defense (although everything I've read on his defense is positive, but he is pretty big for a C)

Custons, Jansen and Ratcliffe are all Cs, aren't they?

Nessy was injured in a play at the plate early on in the season, other than that I don't think he's had any injury problems.

It was a concussion which automatically puts up all sorts of warning flags. Plus, for whatever reason, once you get one concussion, your head becomes an injury magnet. I speak from experience :P

Ratcliffe not a catcher, Custons is questionable because he's in Military. But Jansen seems legit, it's nice to have a young just out of High school catcher in the system

I thought I read that Ratcliffe was a catcher but I know admittedly 0 about the kid. Custons is a nice pick but I'm really high on Jansen. He seems great for a late rounder.

I was looking for someone slighty more sexy then a Military grad, however I get your point.

As another soup head I concur. Took me ten year s on the pitch to have one, have had 3 in five years since.

Ratcliffe is a RHP, what do you like about Custons?

It's not a great thing to like about a catcher but I saw it in Tyler O'Neill as well. 13 stolen bases and the only one on his team to play in all of their games? I like his athleticism. (Not toolsy AA ******** lol)

Took me 7 years of basketball, then I went a year without one, and I've been elbowed/headbutted/slapped/etc in the temple 5 times in 4 weeks.

He's our last hope to get rid of JP.

Nessy and Jansen bro. Seth Conner is underrated as well.

I hope this is all moot because we end up acquiring McCann or something lol.

Hey, you guys in a good mood?

Go read Chris Hawkins' fangraphs profile, that'll be sure to solve that problem.

Juuuuuust a bit of a bust lol.

Guy was somewhere near .325/.365/.415 when they changed his approach and told him a guy his size has to hit for more power. While I agree that if he'd never make the majors without power but it was so annoying to hear that interview.

He could have been Kevin Pillar 2.0 imho. Disappointing how bad we were with him. We really can't develop position prospects.

I really thought Gabrysdsioudasfasd could have started the season in Lansing. His number (except K's) in Bluefield was way better than Norris's and Norris only got to Lansing cuz he signed for more...
