GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Donahue was one of the guys who was an early pick and signed for $10 000 right? I'm surprised he's getting so much playing time He's not really that great, either. Ugh short season cannot f***ing start soon enough
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 He pitched 11 innings in Bluefield last year, so if I had to make a guess I would say Bluefield. We will find out very soon, exciting! Maybe start at Bluefield, if he's doing well promotion to Vancouver midseason AA has said that he believes in rewarding guys at the end of a year with playing time at their next year's assignment, so that looks like the plan.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Holy f***... http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2013_05_29_tacaaa_cspaaa_1&t=g_box&sid=milb Holy f***, I never thought I'd see something that incredible. Wow, that's ridiculous. I mean, it's just so rare. Eric Thames took a walk... I have no words.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 HAHAHAHAHA Chris Volstad! You suck loser! Damn, you Josh Rutledge.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 lol Colorado Springs, what a launching pad. Dustin Ackley: 4-5, HR, 2 BB He's going to hit .400, get called up and then suck again. f*** OBP and wOBA

TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Nice little article on Norris. As Lansing left-hander Daniel Norris took his first steps off the mound in Dayton after giving up six earned runs in 1 1/3 innings, he was already searching for a solution. The 20-year-old walked into the dugout, grabbed the rail and started to cheer on his teammates -- no glove thrown, no stomping into the clubhouse, no time to feel sorry for himself. "It was a defining moment," said Norris, a second-round pick in 2011 out of high school and the No. 3 prospect in the Toronto system. "The very next day ... pitching coach [Vince Horsman] said, 'I don't know any other lefties who throw 95 and get tagged for six runs in one inning. Pitchers get hit around, but you're too good for that.' That really hit home. I credit Vince for helping me turn things around." A 6-foot-2, 180-pound native of Johnson City, Tenn., Norris was 0-3 with a 10.75 ERA through his first seven games this season. He struck out 16 batters and walked 13 while giving up 28 runs in 22 1/3 innings. In three starts since the Dayton debacle on May 8, Norris has yielded one run in 12 innings, allowing seven hits while striking out 22 and walking eight. "All I told Danny was, 'You're a left-hander and you've got good stuff. Go out there with that belief in yourself and let's see what happens. Be aggressive and attack the hitters.'" Horsman said. "He's changed his approach. I don't want to say he was waiting for something bad to happen, but now he's not waiting. He's going after batters." "I think Danny is just realizing that he has the ability and talent to be successful, and he's letting that talent come forth. He's pitching aggressively. Before I think there was a little doubt, and the pressure that comes with being a very high pick. I think he realizes it's still just baseball. 'If I go out there and make good pitches, I have a chance.' And that's what he's done." Norris said his changes have been to his mentality, not his mechanics. He's pitching with more confidence, trusting his pitching arsenal, and going after hitters. It's a reversal from last season as well, when he went 2-4 with an 8.44 ERA in 13 games between Bluefield and Vancouver in his first taste of pro ball. "It was frustrating," Norris said of his poor start to 2013. "Last year kind of went the same way. I didn't have a great year, so I think God put that on my plate to help me deal with adversity. I know how to deal with a bad outing. The next day, I'm ready to work and get better. If you stay hungry and come every day ready to work and get better, good things are going to happen. There are still going to be bad outings, but I know how to deal with adversity and I feel confident in myself. "I wouldn't say I'm figuring out batters. I'd say I'm figuring out myself.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I remember when draft analyst were comparing him to Chipper Jones. What the f*** happened to that. It's borderline depressing that we have another first round pick that will probably never appear in the big leagues or make any kind of significant contribution. Yeah I remembered that. Ahrens, Cooper, McGuire, Jenkins, Arencibia, that wasn't a good time period for 1st rounders lol.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Pillar 1-3 Double 2BB Ahrens 4-4 (!!!!!) 2 doubles McGowan 2 IP 1H 1ER (solo home run) 4K 1BB So Angrioter, do you think Emilio Guerrero(2-3 today, brought average up to .289) ever amounts to anything? A sleeper at this point? I remember I asked you about him before, but just following up here. Tall, athletic and projectable. As a Hitter. -Swing-miss but great discipline for his age. -Good contacts but not very often -Gaps power for now. He's 6'4" 170 LBs, when he develops his physical the power will increase. As a Defender -For me, he looks static in the SS (slow feet). -His arm is decent -I see him more as a 3B.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Can someone actually be 6'4, 170? That would be really something. When Nicolino was first drafted, he was 6'4, 160. Pencil if there ever was one.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Can someone actually be 6'4, 170? That would be really something. Arod 17 years old 6'3", 185 Profar 6'0", 160
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Can someone actually be 6'4, 170? That would be really something. My bro is probably closer to 6'5' 170. Skinny guys are skinny.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 With the DSL Jays starting off tomorrow, is there anyone you think we should be keeping our eyes on? I'll be at the opening game. Wanna see Richard Ureña, Gustavo Periñan 2B, Andres Sotillo C, Oscar Cabrera P, Andres De Aza,
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I freaked out on the old board when we took David Cooper over Ike Davis. Ah memories. I wasn't posting at the time, but you have absolutely no clue what it was like to be around me when Giolito was taken by the Nationals last year. I was a safety hazard to those around me.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Is Gustavo Pierre a prospect at all? Bat speed, raw pop, speed.................Worst defender ever, 4/8 hit tool
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Daniel Norris has turned in some really good outings lately. I know it's a SSS, but his last 4 outings look pretty much identical to where Aaron Sanchez was last year - definitely more walks than we'd like to see, but a f***-tonne of strikeouts. Hopefully, he keeps this up and continues to build on it.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Montero out 4 to 6 weeks now. Tough on him as I'm sure they wanted him working on things not just sitting out.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Just watching yesterday's Lugnuts game...holy f*** did the Urias kid (and he's a kid...not even 17 yet) look good worked 92 through the first inning. Yes he gave up 6 hits and a run in just 3 and 2/3 innings and his two K's were the first two of the game but still looked good. Dodgers were brilliant on this move, only 25% of what they paid went towards the International Cap as the amount that went to the Mexican team doesn't count. We were pumped by Osuna being 17 in Short Season.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 They talked about Urias on the BA Podcast yesterday, I was hoping no one else had every heard about him and I'd take him late in DDL. Guess not. Julio Uria? The mexican kid?
theblujay Verified Member Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 Any idea when Sanchez is supposed to be back?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Any idea when Sanchez is supposed to be back? I've been wondering as well, then I read that AA said that he was feeling great and they're just being cautious and I am now worried and expecting the worst.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I've been wondering as well, then I read that AA said that he was feeling great So season ending TJ is on the horizon, I see.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Didn't Law say he had some kind of muscle strain and he could pitch the Blue Jays are just being cautious. He moved him up to #13 overall, so yeah, I don't really think it's that serious.
Tuco Verified Member Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Who does Sanchez profile close to? I'd love to buy into the hype but with everything thats gone wrong with this organization lately I'm a little nervous about this kid.

I'm absolutely horrible with these things but I think a Hulet report had him as a Garza, or a Verlander if the secondaries develop. Something like that. But others are better equipped to talk about this.
