GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 What do we know about DeJong? And Wasilewski? Not much about Wasilewski but DeJong was taken last draft, solid #3/4 type.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 What do we know about DeJong? And Wasilewski? http://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerprofile.aspx?ID=268325 Zak Wasilewski is a 2012 LHP/OF with a 6-2 190 lb. frame from Tazewell, VA who attends Tazewell. Wasilewski has a strong athletic build, uses a 3/4 arm slot, fast arm, come comes out of hand well, gets on hitters fast, works quick, fastball has life, nice curveball, sharp, good pitch. Highest Level follow on the mound, strong arm from the outfield, has a fast bat, has power potential, projects well, made hard game contact. Two way talent but stands out on the mound. Was near the top of the class before injury. Now back pitching in the 90's Zak Wasilewski is a 2012 LHP/OF with a 6-2 190 lb. frame from Tazewell, VA who attends Tazewell. Wasileski is a good athlete, uses a 3/4 arm slot to produce low 90's fastballs, fast arm, showed a nice curveball with sharp break that has excellent potential, tough to hit off of, high level follow on mound. He also showed an aggressive swing with good bat speed and power potential. https://www.prospectwire.com/pwire/articles/top10-prospects-at-perfect-game-junior-national-showcase 5. Zak Wasilewski, LHP, Tazewell HS, VA A loose-armed, athletic lefty, the 6’1” Wasilewksi has room to grow on his 180 lb frame and will throw harder than the 87-88 MPH he showed on Wednesday. Wasilewski is very athletic for a pitcher and shows the makings of an average major league curveball. His poise on the mound was commendable and his delivery sound, exploiting his larger core and lower-body muscle groups
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Huh, I'll have to keep an eye on Wasilewski.

Someone else to watch on the SS teams.

DeJong #5 swingman ceiling Scouting Report To be honest, if we’re basing this on these stats alone, we wouldn’t know what his tendencies are, because of such a small sample size. So we must go further. One thing that jumps out at me is his size. You always like a pitcher who is 6 feet, 4 inches. The part that scares me, is his weight. When you’re 6’4’’, you have to weigh more than 185 lbs to be very successful. It’s just too lanky; you need to build some muscle. With that being said, DeJong isn’t a power pitcher, as his fastball sits in the high 80s and sometimes rises to the low 90s. I’m sure the velocity will rise once he fills out his tall, lean frame, which gives him great upside. Dejong’s secondary pitches aren’t as lights out as some other prospects, but he uses his advanced head for the game to make up for it. With that advanced head comes the ability to make adjustments, and develop better than your average player. He throws a hard, biting curve, and is just starting to throw a change up now.DeJong is different from other prospects because he doesn’t just go out there throwing, he’s a real smart pitcher. That is probably what is responsible for the superb stats. I’m not sure that will translate to the majors, and it may not even hold for higher levels of the minors, but right now, he has a ton of potential.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 It is, he has some frame to fill out. Angrioter doesn't know everything. I like more Tyler Gonzalez

theblujay Verified Member Posted May 22, 2013 Author Posted May 22, 2013 Damn I wish we kept Carlos perez And Woj...
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Gonzales is a better prospect, throws 5+ mph faster than DeJong. Gonzales 2-way athlete, more heat and more projectable.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Damn I wish we kept Carlos perez He's at an insane 31.6% LD rate so far this year. After 14% in 2011, and 11% last year got to figure that will normalize and his average is running a little high right now. However it's great to see Houston being aggressive with their prospects that have to be added to the 40 man. Nothing worse than having to make a decision with a guy that isn't ready. Zero chance he'd slide through the rule 5 next year so I expect he'll get an add to the 40 man for the Astros at some point this year. His lack of XBH's makes him probably just a bench piece for most of his career though.
