Past the first round or not this Org needs some major changes. Hope we gets swept to put me out of misery.

1942 Leafs came back from being down 3-0! Anything is possible!

Changes need to be made. This Leafs team is nowhere near Stanley Cup contention, even with guys like Matthews, Marner, Taveras and Nylander. Shake up is definitely needed.

Just curious, would anyone trade Tkchuck straight up for Matthews for the next 5 years ??

The Panthers certainly wouldn't.

So we all agree we just witnessed the end of an era for the Leafs?

No way could they possibly run this back selling the hopes of winning a championship with Shannahan, Dubas, Keefe and Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander leading the charge.

Should be an interesting offseason to say the least.

Changes definitely will have to be made at the top and also in the dressing room. It's evident that the Leafs can never win a Stanley Cup with this group which is really disappointing when you consider they have guys like Matthew, Marner, Taveras and Nylander as their core. I mean for the last 3-4 years, they weren't even able to get out of R1.

When you look back at these Playoffs, Leafs really did get lucky in R1 vs. Tampa winning those 3 games in OT. They could have gone the other way and if they did, looking at a different series with a R1 exit. They haven't looked good at all during the Florida series which is what's disappointing. At least go out, play good hockey and lose in 6 or 7 games.

If the Leafs come back and win this series, they'll win the Cup.

A few years ago, the Ducks seemed to have a surplus of good young defenseman, and there were rumors the Leafs were interested in Montour. Pierre Lebrun suggested they would have to offer up Nylander to get the Ducks to part with Montour. Leafs fans thought that was the most ridiculous notion, and to be fair it took Montour quite awhile to prove them wrong - but he is definitely doing that and then some.

Habs are getting #1 draft pick tonight... the next Gretzky

A. Bedard is not Gretzky. He's not even McDavid. He's very good, but people need to curb their expectations.

B. He's not going to Montreal. My money goes on Columbus.

Tavares has a full NMC.

Marner and Matthews both have full NMCs that kick in on July 1st, so if they are serious about moving one of those guys, they will likely need to do it before then.

Nylander has a 10 team NTC...I believe that list gets submitted on July 1st also.

Nylander has one year left on his deal at a very attractive cap hit so he's most likely the one if they want to shake it up. But I'm not really sure that's enough. They save $6.9m by moving Nylander out. Is that enough to change the entire makeup of this team? Unless they can find a coach that's able to get through to them.

Personally...I think they need to find an elite goalie. Hellebuyck might be available. Not sure who else could be a good fit, but this group has never had a goalie that can steal games or an entire series. They've been going with mediocre to average goaltending and hoping the team plays great in front. They don't. This team constantly makes idiotic blunders... And they don't have a guy that will bail them out. They haven't since Belfour/Cujo. Haven't developed a guy like that since they drafted Potvin in '90. They had Rask but.....

To me, getting a "TRUE" #1 goalie is the most important addition. My guess is they run it back with Samsonov and Woll though. Unless the organization fires everyone and decides to go scorched earth.

Bedard to the Coyotes seems very scripted. That alone might secure the Tempe arena. And when Auston Matthews joins him a couple years later and Matthew Knies 5 years from now. Hockey in Arizona will be saved.

Bedard has moves that even Gretzky didn't have. So ya, he's going to even be better.

Fools gold.

Most "elite" NHL goalies are just the byproduct of the elite defense in front of them. Very few exceptions.

Yeah I understand.

They might have to make a challenge/shake-up trade for another star player of similar skillset/value. This core has pretty much been together since 2018 and they haven't even come close to looking like Cup contenders.

I'm not a big Nylander fan either.

To me, Nylander just seems like the least talented all things considered.

I don't know what the fancy stats say about Marner and Matthews but I could see them being, or at least having the capacity of becoming, better two-way players than Nylander. I dunno.

Yeah I prefer Matthews and Marner over Nylander moving forward. Not sure who they could get for Nylander but would look to move him first before Matthews or Marner.

Leafs are stuck with Taveras but as long as he puts up his 80 points per season, I'll take that.

Leafs were a Top 5-6 defensive team this year. Do you consider the Leafs goaltending Top 5-6? I sure as hell don't. A great defensive system can certainly make a goalie look good but I don't think it's a steadfast rule.

Regardless. Wherever you look on this roster, there are problems.

Marner is nominated for the Selke this season so clearly he's a good defensive forward already (in the regular season).. Matthews is a very good defensive centre. Nylander is quite poor defensively. His biggest defensive asset is his ability to strip the puck away from the opposition (when he's in the mood).

Any big name players that could be shopped this offseason?

What type of challenge trades could be out there?

What do you mean? Samsonov played the bulk of the minutes and his GAA/SV% track with the team's goals allowed ranking. Toronto was 7th in GA but functionally tied with 11th place Vegas (five goal difference). I don't think Toronto was a "top 5" defensive team unless you are looking at some fancy stat. Boston was #1 and then there are like 10 teams basically tied in that second tier.
