L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 It's still early. JB you were adamant that games in April are just as important as September all MLB season long… can’t have your cake and eat it too!

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Was contemplating putting like $5-10 on the Sharks last night haha. Figured they had to get their first win and what better team to do it against haha. Oilers have been awful this season, like what is going on? Stanley Cup contenders s***ing the bed. NHL really needs to get McDavid out of Edmonton. Goaltending and scoring, McDavid has been human(1 PPG) and their not getting the depth scoring. The Leafs have been similar to a degree, but the Oilers start has been flat out ugly, and that's with a relatively easy schedule.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 I don't see him as a guy to bail, like at all. Probably not. At least not publicly. He could go to them and say, I'm not extending here once my deal is done though. That would certainly give them something to ponder.

Pretty crazy that we're in an era where some of the best players to ever play their sport (Trout, McDavid, even Ohtani) are all rotting on s***** teams that can't win s***.

Well, they had the 2nd best odds at the cup coming into the season, I feel they'll go on a heater soon.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 How do you end a game like that with a SO
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 How do you end a game like that with a SO It's the Bettman way
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 I think he's being facetious... Lol you are correct
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 Buds needed those W's this weekend and depth scoring to go along with it. Off to Sweden now.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 It's the Bettman way When you lose like that it's infuriating, and when you win it feels cheap. 10 minutes 3x3 should take care of ties.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Woodcroft was fired, didn't think that'd happen so early.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Not sure if I have ever posted in here before. I just expensed $3400 USD on my corporate card for Caps vs Knights tickets tomorrow night for a Team activity at work. I haven’t been to a hockey game since the 80s, and haven’t watched but maybe portions of a handful of games since, primarily olympic games. Is there still fighting, like Don Cherry style in NHL hockey? I guess I will be cheering for Vegas.. Really I am just going for the work event and to drink beer. I did see in the news today that a bunch of Canadians were all upset that the Penguins fans were all chanting, “fire Canada”. The Canadians were saying, we will take our players back etc.. Dudes ( and Jim), they are talking about the offensive coordinator for the Steelers who’s last name is Canada…
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Fighting is much more rare but could happen Vegas is great and Washington is horrible You might see a huge hit but the player will probably be suspended lol Game is all about speed and possession now
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 (edited) 0.35 fights per game this season, up from 0.3 last year Woodcroft was fired, didn't think that'd happen so early. Had to be done. Holland should be on the thinnest of ice now as well, but I'm not sure of the strength of his relationship with Katz. They are an unacceptably flawed and disappointingly bad team considering the elite talent they are built around. Holland's failure to acquire any stability in net, is their ultimate undoing. The faith showed in 30 year old career back up Campbell, was simply absurd, as was the frugal choice of rolling with Mike Smith before that. Outside of Dwayne Rolosen standing on his head for that one playoff run, have they really ever had legit goaltending since Cujo? The contract they gave Nurse is an absolute joke, they haven't really gotten much right outside of lottery luck and the odd good signing. Edited November 13, 2023 by Pendleton

Ovechkin on the Capitals is 68 goals behind tying Gretzky’s all time record so that’s something pretty cool. Vegas should take the W.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Every Canadian NHL franchise is such a f***ing joke. Overwhelmingly incompetent and hopeless. I wonder why? Overconfidence? Owners putting too much faith in the old boys over the years? Why are they all so clueless? It's funny that the Leafs, with all of their perpetual issues, are objectively the best Canadian NHL franchise and it's not even close, when we look at recent years. The past decade has been the darkest in Canadian NHL history, no? Since 2013-2014 (ten full seasons) VAN: 2 playoff appearances CAL: 5 playoff appearances TOR: 7 playoff appearances OTT: 2 playoff appearances EDM: 5 playoff appearances MON: 5 playoff appearances WIN: 6 playoff apprearances 32 playoff tickets in 70 chances by the franchises that should have the most non-payroll resources in the league. 1 Stanley Cup finals appearance (loss) 5 Conference finals appearances (1-4) Actively squandering the careers of superstars like McDavid, Draisaitl, Matthews Could not get a cup for guys like the Sedins, Luongo, Iginla, Karlsson, Sundin, Alfredsson, Price. Thirty f***ing years since a Canadian team won the whole thing. Thirty years. Guy Carbonneau and Denis f***ing Savard were on that team. They are 63 years old now?

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 I think you're spot on. Do you think it's had an impact on the sport within Canada? The opposite effect the Raps winning has had on Canadian Basketball? or Mike Weir had on Canadian Golf?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 What an incredible start to his career for Bedard...PPG and 9 goals in 13 games. I'm not sure anyone could have expected anything better for this young superstar.

Lots of kids and young people these days are Lightning and Golden Knights fans, lol. But I think there are probably kids who are playing other sports because the Canadian NHL teams have been so bad and uninspiring and boring for so long.

If there were to be a fight, it'd likely be Howden of Vegas and Wilson of the Caps, the Knights are elite and Caps stink, highly likely Vegas wins. Enjoy!
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 How many tickets are you buying for $3,400 USD?

It is pretty damn expensive to play, gear up etc.
