admin Site Manager Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 He also apologized for that tweet later on saying he thought that the death rumour was a hoax Apologize for what?
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I honestly wouldnt be surprised to see Hughes put up an ERA below 4. He goes from an extreme hitters homerun park to a pitchers park. Also a beast of a division to weak hitting division.
admin Site Manager Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Where the hell did the Twins get money from? $12M for Nolasco $8 for Hughes. Wow I jus trealized they have a pretty brutal team.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Doesn't seem like AA is in on any FA. Could mean a trade or two by the end of the winter meetings.... Why sign a FA when you can give up assets instead?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Why sign a FA when you can give up assets instead? exactly... AA can do the same as last year. sell the future to suck now. then he can get his ass fired and we can start over with someone who knows something about baseball?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I think the Twins may be overpaying a bit to sign the guys they've signed, but that might be what a bad team has to do to get FA to sign with them. What they've done is preferable to trading away part of their future to address their pitching holes. It seems AA has the opposite view. I still hope he goes the FA route rather than trade away more of the future. Sanchez's value has fallen and while Stroman's is up, he's so close to the majors that he could start contributing next year and at such a low salary. I'm hoping the increasing cost of pitching will help AA find a taker for Happ and some of the relievers and use the savings to sign a FA or 2 to address a couple of the holes, but it's not looking good right now.

Agreed , I like the signing for the Twins , Flyball pitcher that now goes to a huge ballpark . Surprised he didn't go to an NL pitchers park in the NL west but the AL central was the next best place for him.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 The going rate for a fringe #4 type is 8m a year? Steep. Shows the importance of having a deep system. Even if guys like Hutch, Nolin, etc don't become anything special.. they could still become cheap, controllable, effective talent which will help prevent us from pissing away money on garbage pitchers like Hughes. Thankfully the Jays truly value org depth like no other!
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Why sign a FA when you can give up assets instead? Not that I am advocating going the trade route, but money is an asset as well. It's probably much easier for AA to go to Rogers with a trade for a pitcher like Samardiza who will cost what? $14-$15M? over the next two years giving up prospects they probably never even heard of, compared to spending $60-$75M on a FA SP.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Red Sox to tender Andrew Bailey a contract He must be relieved Nice play on words. Not sure if intentional but I will give you one of my much sought after "thanks."
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Nice play on words. Not sure if intentional but I will give you one of my much sought after "thanks." Hahaha. I have to admit the pun for the relief pitcher was not intentional.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Anyone want Bailey in DDL? I'm not looking for much in return.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 The Mariners are nearing a deal with free agent utility player Willie Bloomquist, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (on Twitter). The 36-year-old served as a Swiss army knife for manager Kirk Gibson, playing shortstop, second base, third base, left field and right field in his time with the D-Backs.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Yankees Sign Brendan Ryan Flood gates to the off season have opened! They signed him a week ago. A's sign Kazmir 2Ys/17M I would have liked him a that amount.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 2Ys/17M I would have liked him a that amount. It was 2/22
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Ew why Amazing fielder. For when Jeter goes down.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Faaaaaaaawwwwwwkk!!! I would rather have a guy who hasn't been broken the majority of his career. We have enough of that with Morrow.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Meh......a two year fill on a good contract is well worth it. Plus it fits the "Window", lol. He is worth taking a chance on, but if were talking Garza or Kazmir, its not even close. Plus it was for $22M not $17M according to MLB trade rumors.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Andrew Bailey non-tendered. I'd take a look at him. Will probably come cheap, has a solid history, would be awesome to have at least one thing to hold over Boston's head, and Steamer likes him. Would probably have more value than most relievers if he rebounded cause of his history.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Also, Athletics are in on Jim Johnson. If they get him cheap and let him pitch in O.co and flip him I won't even be slightly surprised.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 What?? Since when does Billy Beane consider trading assets for a relief pitcher making 10M???
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 What?? Since when does Billy Beane consider trading assets for a relief pitcher making 10M??? If Anderson goes the other way it's basically 2 million.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Dammit AA while he's being dumn trade him Dela bar for whatever you want!
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 If Anderson goes the other way it's basically 2 million. Still doesn't make sense. He can dump that money elsewhere. Could we see Beane do something crazy and make Johnson a starter?
