John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Rbi's are hard to come by when they have a great lead off hitter, then Baker puts a guy with a sub .300 OBP in the 2 hole
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Guys on Sunday Night Baseball talking about Joey Votto. "66 RBI just isn't good enough." It's amazing how they just don't understand. Votto being on base ALL THE TIME creates tons of rbi situations for the hitters behind him. Doesn't matter who drives in the runs as long as they're driven in.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2013 Author Posted September 9, 2013 If Hamilton pushes Choo down to the 2 spot, Votto will be bringing in dem ribeyes soon enough. Even if he doesn't, idk why Choo/Phillips/Votto wouldn't work.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 “I’d like to continue to reduce the amount of balls I swing at outside the strike zone,” Votto said. “I’ve been told I have a really low number, one of the lowest percentages in the game, but there’s no reason it shouldn’t be the lowest. Beyond that, being even more particular in the strike zone, taking it from not just the strike zone to within the strike zone, being more particular. Pops it up less than 4 percent of the time, 27 percent line drive rate, the dude is just good. Can't believe cincy fans get on him and we have to deal with airheads like JP

Heyman is solidifying himself as an oldschool [wrong] thinker.

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Terrible article. He pretty much tried to discredit WAR by mentioning players he feels are better/worse players than WAR says they are. His treatment of Choo is especially cringe-inducing, as it confirms that he indeed has no idea what he's talking about. Not a single mention of Choo's WAR being hurt by playing an awful CF. Amateur article. He states that he's an average fielder in CF with a plus arm, so no he wouldnt agree with that last part
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 But any honest assessment has to at least mention the -17 fielding runs allotted to Choo, whether or not Heyman thinks he's smarter than UZR. Unless of course he has no idea how WAR is calculated, let alone how to find the defensive input. In which case he shouldn't be publishing articles on the topic. All valid points... BUT CABRERAHITS SOO GOOOOOD... HOW COULD TROUT BE A MORE COMPLETE PLAYER THAN THAT!!!!

That's the point, his analysis of players is just that..talking out of his ass. He doesnt realize that Choo is butchering CF out there, which directly affects his WAR. It's pretty obvious that he rates players based on what he heard from the talking heads around the league. Allowing the nerds and people who actually research stats to have a voice in the baseball community would put these retired jocks/ ass kissing airheads out of work fast, cant have that happening.
Nox Verified Member Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 It's getting to the point that Mike Trout not winning the MVP this year will be just as egregious as last.
Nox Verified Member Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 It's getting to the point that Mike Trout not winning the MVP this year will be just as egregious as last. Quoting myself. This is a first. Anyways, I hope the ask the Fat Greek who should MVP again. That'll be good for a laugh.

Just in case anyone was starting to think that Sabermetrics were finally becoming the mainstream lens through which to view baseball.... there's this annual/perennial LoLfest.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 We can all agree that average is a dubious at best measurement of a hitter's production. We can all agree that RBI count is basically meaningless. But the TRIPLE CROWN still matters, simply because it's the TRIPLE f***ING CROWN. It's amazing that even fairly smart people who soundly accept #1 and #2 still put MVP level significance in #3 just because it's a rarity.

Why not runs? That would probably be a bigger rarity.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 Hamilton? Billy. The fast kid.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 Will he get on base? Meh, maybe. I prefaced my post with "if" for that reason, though. He's had a few really nice seasons and some bad ones with lower BABIPs.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Travis D'Arnaud hitting .143 in 64 PA #Bust d'Arnaud already has 7 BB's in his short stint. Almost half way there catching JPA's 17 BB's on the year lol.
