  1. It’s also the Colorado Rockies on the other side of the diamond lol.
  2. The JS equivalent of bringing in Fisher in a 10 run game in the 8th lol.
  3. Surprised they brought in Barger and not just given him the full day off given the score.
  4. Rockies pitching is so bad. So many middle middle pitches this series…
  5. Yeah but the Orioles are cheap and neglected pitching. Red Sox have an ace and some other nice pieces not to mention a way bigger budget.
  6. To be fair they’ve basically run a top 10 payroll from 21 till now as well so playoffs should be the expectation with a 200+ payroll and expanded postseason.
  7. He's not even bad against RHP either. Good chance he's better than Loperfido honestly.
  8. Just gotta enjoy the season. People always get too caught up in projecting the future and even if you have a team full of young stars its not like the playoffs are guaranteed (look at Baltimore and Atlanta). The team is overachieving this year for sure but they have a lead in the AL East which no one reasonably expected, just gotta enjoy it because who knows what will happen next year. I will say the team winning all these games probably makes them a more attractive FA destination which was a struggle these last few years so that bodes well.
  9. Yeah but at least Schneider you can play in LF and throw out at 2B if you have to. The added position flexibility makes him a much better fit for the roster.
  10. Im just saying it’s funny that a guy could be on pace with those numbers with a .250 OBP. Makes it even more impressive.
  11. Varsho basically is exactly what this lineup needed. Doesn’t matter if he hits .215 if it comes along with a .250 ISO. Him selling out for power actually has benefited him.
  12. France seems like a waste of a roster spot.
  13. I think the issue some people have is that you are buying Varland at peak value. 5 years of control is valuable but Varland has been good for exactly one year and could revert back to being nothing which means control of the asset doesn't mean much. Even his xERA suggests he's been more good versus elite, and even though he throws hard the lack of missing bats could mean more variable performance year to year. I agree personally that you rather have the best possible player when targeting relievers especially for a team in a playoff race. Not only is reliever performance volatile but there is no guarantee the Jays are going to be good next year either so thats why I rather have the better player. Like would you rather have Braydon Fisher or Bryan Abreu/Griffin Jax? Fisher is having a great season and you have lots of control but he doesn't have a track record of command/success where as the other guys have been elite for a few years but you have less control. Now no one really knows if the Jays prioritized getting a reliever with control over guys like Duran, Jax, Bednar etc.. Like someone else mentioned certain teams like certain prospects more so we don't really know if the Jays offered the same package for some of the better arms.
  14. I dunno the Red Sox look pretty solid. They could use some bullpen and rotation depth but the top end of their roster is pretty damn good. It is kinda funny though they could use another guy exactly like Devers and gave him away for nothing.
  15. I saw something about a Labrum injury. My guess is there is a tear or partial tear and he inevitably gets surgery. If he hasn’t swung a bat at this point the chances of him contributing for the team this season seems barely above 0.
  16. Yeah I think people are sleeping on how good Giminez actually is and how much he can help the team if he's healthy. His xwOBA is the 2nd highest of his career and his BABIP is insanely low while also having the lowest pop up rate of his career. He's not a guy who should be hitting at the top of the lineup but he can be really valuable hitting 7-9 while also providing elite defense and great baserunning. Would be nice if Santander was healthy cuz the lineup at full health actually does look really good but I'm afraid we aren't going to see him again this season. He may as well just get surgery now so he is able to play at the beginning of next year.
  17. Yeah I wasn't trying to pick on your post specifically, but in a more broad sense you see on Twitter/at the ballpark people think Loperfido is breaking out as a star where as they s*** on Barger. Just saying the numbers of those 3 guys are a lot closer than the surface wRC+ would indicate. Even with the batted ball metrics Loperfido clearly has gotten lucky where as Lukes has had a bit of bad luck. Reality is Loperfido was on a heater (which he's starting to cool down) and Barger was in a bit of a slump. I don't even think Loperfido is a regular going forward given he still strikes out a lot, is a corner OF and is a platoon bat. He's fine as a depth guy to bring up when there are injuries and hit in the bottom 3rd of the lineup but he shouldn't be batting 2nd for a team trying to win a division title. Him numbers in AAA weren't anything special either.
  18. Yeah I think the Barger ball was more bad positioning than a lack of range. Ironic because they had him in "no doubles" defence hugging the line and a ground ball to his left went for a double. I will say he has looked really bad in RF though which the numbers agree with. I think long term you stick him at 3rd and live with average to below average defence. The bat still plays.
  19. It’s kind of funny how BABIP luck can skew people’s perceptions. I see on twitter people praising Loperfido lately and slamming Barger etc when if you look at their numbers a lot of it is just luck. Since ASB Loperfido- 5.5%BB, 27.3%K, .160 ISO .515 BABIP Lukes- 6.3 BB%, 11.1 K%, .220 ISO, .125 BABIP Barger- 4.2 BB%, 25.4 K%, .224 ISO, .304 BABIP Honestly Barger hasn’t even been that bad, maybe had about a week slump where he’s chasing a bit more but I mean that’s baseball. The biggest weakness is not having Kirk and Springer in lineup.
  20. What didn’t show up in the box score was how bad the defence was. Witt hit a ground ball to Badgers left for a double which you almost never see and ended up being the tying run. Then in extras a ball gets by Vladdy for another double which Loperfido also botched twice in RF. Then Kirk airmailed one to 3rd on a truly horrific throw and Straw didn’t get to it in time allowing another runner to get 90 feet which was another run. Add in Dominguez losing his command (which he’s been known for and shouldn’t surprise anyone) and you get a terrible inning. But it’s the offence that needs to be better, just too many holes in the lineup right now like others have mentioned. Lukes/Loperfido hitting 1/2 is not a playoff contender along with a weak bottom of the lineup.
  21. Yankees with one of the worst losses of the year. If you were a Yankees fan that type of loss is beyond infuriating.
  22. Jays have a plus 17 RD on the season now. Obviously some of that is because of the terrible pitching depth earlier on in the year but it is a bit worrying they’ve been blown out like 4 times this past week. Its lucky they still have a lead in the division because I think its pretty clear they are not the best team in the division talent wise.
  23. Say what you want about any poster on here but mostly everyone here is 90x smarter than the “casual” blue jays fans. You the really casual fan who knows basically nothing about the team, and then the casual fan who actually follows the team somewhat and goes to their fair share of games and even those people really don’t know much about baseball. I go to quite a few games and the conversations that happen around me make you want to puke. And that’s in decent seats close to the game. Go to one of the standing room areas or the 500 level and it’s just drunk morons not even paying attention to the game.
  24. Seems like kind of a weird trade. Jays must think he can be a decent backup C. Or maybe he gets flipped to another team for a pitcher.
