  1. Hoffman issue is probably just overworked. Its pretty simple, if his stuff isn't there that night he just gets smashed. Even when hes going "great" he makes plenty of mistakes in the middle of the zone its just at 97-98 he can get it by guys. Look at the homers last might right down the middle.. His command completely goes away too. Little and Yariel's FB velo also have been trending down this month. It is the dog days of August so guys are probably just hitting a wall.
  2. Yeah when he's off he just completely blows up. Been 3-4 outings off the top of my head where it goes from not only a blown save but the other team scores like 3-4 and there is no chance of a comeback in the bottom half of the inning.
  3. Biggest problem is the lack of command. All of Hoffman, Little and Dominguez can just "lose" it and everything unravels quickly. Walks and HBP have been killing them lately. And those are 3 of your 4 "highest leverage" arms. Varland being the other who is also struggling. At the same time as bad as they are right now if they are going well they can be lights out. You just have to have a quick leash come playoff time
  4. You just gotta hope the pen can turn it around. Still a 4 game lead in the division and there are 3 games left with each of the Yankees and Sox. Jays are still in a pretty good spot and you Bieber being healthy is a huge addition.
  5. Not sure cheap is the right word but they definitely could have added more. Varland scuffling at the same time hurts. Little has been a walk machine for a while now, Dominguez can lose it just as easiliy as Hoffman. Yariel seems to be basically be replacement.
  6. Problem with Hoffman is he has such poor command. So if his fastball isn't 96-98 and is more 94-95 he gets absolutely crushed. He makes a ton of mistakes right down the middle but if he has his good stuff he more than often gets by with it. It is true that he either is amazing or down right awful not much in betweeen. That said I can't really fault JS here, hes your closer he's supposed to lock down the game. Doesn't help everyone else besides Nance in the pen is sucking too.
  7. Man is the bullpen ever in shambles right now. Almost everyone down there has been struggling lately. Can't command and serving up homers, tough combo.
  8. I had to look up the numbers for Turner and didn't realize how much WAR he's had in his career. He still seems more of a very very good player over a HOFer to me but if he can keep it up he certainly has a chance. I think what holds him back in my view is this will be his first year inside a top 3 MVP ballot and only second time top 5.
  9. AL MVP: Raleigh NL MVP: Ohtani AL CY: Skubal NL CY: Skenes AL ROY: Kurtz NL ROY: Baldwin
  10. I think they do have one on the road as I went to the game in Pitt on Monday and they didn't take batting practice on the field. One of the crappy things about the latest machine is hardly any teams take BP on the field anymore so it does kind of suck for fans visiting to the stadium. Obviously nothing you can really do about it but not really much incentive to show up early to a game anymore.
  11. I think its fair to say both of those guys have pretty poor command its not just about their stuff being nasty. It kind of is who they are. Even Hoffman has pretty poor command but he just tries to throw it down the middle and because his stuff is so good, gets away with it more often than not. All of those guys also have the ability to strike 3 guys out in a row with the bases loaded so you just kind of hope they don't lose it.
  12. Yeah both of them have had their unravelling moments the last couple of weeks.
  13. Yeah but I feel there is no need to overhaul all of the divisions based on travel. The Jays probably waste an extra hour each road trip when you factor in they have to go through customs etc.. Every team deals with advantages and disadvantages. I remember hearing Matt Duchene talk about how when he played in Ottawa for the Senators how they had to get their place de-iced all the time so even though the "travel" was less than when he played for Dallas he felt it was actually worse in Ottawa because of all the dead time waiting around.
  14. I find the travel component to be overrated honestly. Teams play 3-4 game series so they are travelling less than NHL/NBA teams. With afternoon games on travel days and charter flight an extra 1-2 hours in the air doesn't really mean a whole lot. I would think playing in different time zones would have a worse effect on the body than the actual travel distance.
  15. The wild pitches have been a killer too. He's had a few runs score from bouncing a ball in the grass. And those are the types of moments that can especially hurt in the postseason.
  16. Vladdy might be a bigger loss than first thought. Offence looked pretty weak today and this series in general.
  17. Don't think an 82MPH fastball would do much lol. I heard he continued his career at East Side Mario's as the only thing he knew how to do was serve up meatballs.
  18. There are 3 off days in September so I don't think going to a 6 man rotation is the right move either as you'll have guys thrown off their routine. Maybe you have a Spot start in there if you need it but I kind of agree you don't want to go to a 6man as you don't want to mess with these guys routines when they are performing well.
  19. Surprised Kirk is catching a day game after a night game. JS with his lineup decisions can seem a little baffling. He will give guys a "day off" only to not give them a day off and bring them in late in the game with a score out of reach much like Varsho last night.
  20. Lauer seems to be struggling a tiny bit lately so he seems the most obvious to move to the pen/long relief. I would probably have him come out of the pen because you may as well have him get used to it routine wise as he could be useful in the postseason going one time through a lineup to neutralize platoons. Right not I have Bassit not making the playoff rotation as Berrios has higher upside and maybe you just have him only pitch 2 times through the order.
  21. His arm seems pretty weak this year. He can't really plant and fire deep in the hole. But yeah his range also has been quite bad and given his weakness going to his right 2B doesn't seem like a good spot.
  22. And Barger's arm has been worth 3 runs in RF so his range is borderline non playable there. He seems way better at 3B even if his range/glove are below average.
  23. Yeah I think at his age it’s only going to get worse if I’m being honest. The body has gotten pretty heavy the last couple of years and his Dad was a pretty stocky guy as well so I think his days at SS are coming to an end. The question for me is can he even stay on the infield because his arm strength has completely evaporated.
  24. JS would do well to give him for full days off. I think there is some wear and tear/fatigue going on which as a C is to be expected. Doesn't help that JS is using him to PH on his scheduled off days as you aren't really getting a full rest day, Its a tough balance as you want to do as much as you can to win the game but I think you do need to prioritize some rest for some of these players. Bo as well has looked pretty sluggish lately.
  25. Yeah I think Loperfido is the clear choice to get optioned. He's hot a .473 BABIP so his numbers are way inflated and even before he got hit in the knee he was swinging and missing a lot more. He's been a great story but even his AAA numbers this year suggest he's barely an average hitter. Schneider in his career has been pretty good vs RHP so not even sure Loperfido would be the better option against RHP anyways.
