  1. After 2 guys reach base JS will get Hoffman warm lol
  2. That was an absolute bomb to CF. Needed that big time given the pen lately.
  3. Why would you even bring Green in there? He’s a guy who gives up a ton of homers, he’s the last guy you want to bring in mid inning with runners on base..
  4. Yeah but I think everyone knows even with a 150 wRC+ Vladdy still wouldn't have gotten that same contract which is why everyone hated it. His xwOBA is actually higher than last year so maybe once the weather heats up some of his flyballs will turn into HR. This is purely anecdotal but I feel Rogers Centre hurts him a bit as some of his hard hit fly balls are so hard he turns doubles into singles. If you put him in place like Comerica with a giant OF he would have a lot more extra base hits. The most frustrating part about him is everyone can see how talented he is and knows that he could be a Pujols/Miggy type but that for whatever reason he still can't figure out how to hit the ball in the air more. Obviously easier said than done and maybe he's tried to do that which then screws his swing up entirely and maybe we just have to accept him as a guy who is a .300 hitter with 25-30 HR and not a 40HR guy.
  5. I think Jays could use another good reliever as well at the deadline. I guess if Garcia came back and looked elite it would go a long way but I feel you can never have enough good pitching. Assuming they got to the postseason they would have one of the weaker rotations so another reliever would help mitigate that.
  6. Theres way more players taking PEDs than anyone expects, other sports included. I don't think fans really even care about it tbh. People rather see guys hit 50 bombs or score 30 PPG with insane athletic abilities.
  7. I agree with a lot of this. The sad part about it though is they still could have signed him back, just for far less than what they paid. Vladdy wouldn't have gotten even 400M this offseason given how he's played so far. Shapiro has been right about one thing and that's no one player is worth more than their contract in a marketing aspect other than Ohtani. If Rogers paid more money to Vladdy because they thought he was going to make them $ based on marketing well they are in for a rude awakening. People only give a s*** if the team wins, and only then when the team is winning will they latch on to "stars" of that team. Last year was a prime example, no one paid extra money in September to see Vladdy play on a team that wasn't competitive. Even in the Halladay years the Jays might have gotten an extra 1000 fans at most on his starts.
  8. I feel part of the blame still should be on the FO. I mean you have to do a good job communicating to them that the contract would be an absolute landmine and they should not sign it. In my opinion the problem is Shapiro/Atkins want to save their jobs so they aren’t going to speak up as strongly or as convincingly. Tough to really know what happened but Rogers never seemed to meddle before this.
  9. Agreed. Jose I thought was the best example, in his prime it seemed like he would crush every mistake and spit on pitches that were an inch outside the zone. Bautista wasn’t the biggest guy and his tools weren’t really that elite other than his arm but he knew how to get the most out of his swing and when he got his pitch he barely missed it. Even Edwin in 2012-2015 was the same way.
  10. That Finals run Kawhi completely carried them in rounds 2/3. There was stretches in those games against Philly where literally no one could score other than Kawhi. IIRC Nurse was running like an 8 man rotation in some games because guys like Powell weren’t even playable based on how they were performing.
  11. Scherzer basically admitted his thumb still isn’t healthy and it’s something he will have to “pitch through” so not sure I feel confident in him pitching the rest of the year. At least the next 3-4 weeks should be enough to see if he can stay healthy/be reliable. Manoah can’t be counted on to be anything given how long it’s been since he last pitched effectively. The jays need a #1/2 not 2 back end SP anyways. Although that’s easier said than done of course given the options out there.
  12. It also seems when he does get a pitch to hit and is sitting on it, he hits it for a single or double which limits his production. I doubt it’s a vision issue cuz he does have a pretty good eye at the plate. If he had the brain of Jose or Edwin he would be a 200wRC+ type bat. Good thing is he has the upside to be that type of player if he does figure it out.
  13. This whole season has been like this lol. A few terrible losses in a row followed by some unlikely wins just after you wrote them off. Then you believe in the team and they disappoint for a few games. Team is a mid 80s win team as constructed and will continue to be like this all season unless they can shore up the pitching.
  14. Bullpen needs to be better. Little, Hoffaman and Sandlin all just completely lose their command mid inning. As good as the pen has been as a whole it still doesn’t inspire much confidence if they were in the postseason.
  15. I’d rather have Hoffman come in with a clean inning then be used as a pitcher with guys on base etc. He’s fine as a closer but he just needs to become more consistent. Far too often his command is off and he completely implodes which not only blows the save but completely loses them the game.
  16. Hoffman is so inconsistent. If he doesn’t have it he completely implodes… His ERA is gross.
  17. Only 28 degrees by the water. I live right beside the dome and the lake cools it off pretty nice. Those seats down the first base line in the sun would be miserable though.
  18. Going to need someone new for the 9th, Hoffman already looks fatigued hanging sliders over the plate
  19. He has Pujols upside but he just doesn't seem to have a strong enough baseball IQ. He also doesn't seem to hunt for pitches the same way the great players do. A lot of the time it seems he doesn't have much of a plan at the plate
  20. He's also a plus defender himself so that likely lowers his ERA a bit right there.
  21. I think for me the upside is just low as a platoon corner OF who doesn't hit for much power. If he can made an adjustment against big league pitching he can have a pretty good career but so far we haven't seen that and given the Jays roster its looking like he might be better off in trade bait than on the roster.
  22. Nobody was on base like I mentioned.. Dumb move I'll leave it at that.
