  1. He can play anywhere on infield, or just 2nd/3rd? He seems like an obvious biggio replacement/competitor. He might be a good platoon with espinal actually, seems like they have opposite splits.
  2. I actually agree. Load up on back end starters if the reliever market is crazy and trade for that instead, now or at the deadline. Convert guys in the minors to relievers who project as back end guys, and use our best prospects that have a chance to arrive next year in the pen.
  3. I think I’d rather keep Moreno but that does sound interesting.
  4. Judging by the moves so far, anything approaching a back end reliever is going to be super expensive. Also, we have a roster construction problem where almost none of our relievers have options. If we can two cost controlled swing and miss relievers; or one swing and miss reliever and one back end starter (similar to the adames trade) both with options and multiple years of control.. that would kill a few birds with one stone. That at least could be the foundation of a deal for Jansen. It could also save money, giving us two pre arb guys. Then we could go closer to the top of the market elsewhere.
  5. The way the relief market is shaping up, it looks to me that most of the value is in starting pitching, especially on the back end. With that in mind, Jansen really lines up as someone you could trade for a couple of relievers with great stuff, or one good starter prospect who is close, and one reliever with great stuff.
  6. The contracts handed out to relievers so far have been so insane; i’d almost rather we stay out of that market.
  7. Click the Houston GM isnt coming back. I would love to see us add him to the brain trust on a one year deal while he figures out where he wants to be. Pay him a ton for one year.
  8. To me, Jansen seems the obvious one to trade.
  9. I personally believe that the key to long extended windows is your ability to develop pitching… and i think we are somewhere in the middle band of teams at that.. and thats on Atkins.. probably. But, we won over 90 games two years in a row and they have done fantastic on the hitting side. So, no i wouldnt fire him. Id ask him to get better at the pitching side via hires or investment or whatever. You could fire him and it could get worse. I think a better front office would extend our window out a few years more, but this FO is competing now.. so seems like a bad idea to disrupt it too much. A few years ago, the yankees rejiggered their pitching set up. They didnt fire cashman. Im fine with that approach.
  10. I’d completely overhaul our pitching dev as a matter of extreme urgency, including pete walker. I absolutely would not trade vlad. Or Kirk. Jansen or Teo, possibly.
  11. I dont agree that luck can only be a major factor in low scoring games.
  12. I cant remember any deep playoff run in baseball where one team didnt have games where they had much more than the other team. In ten regular season games, there are usually a couple that stand out. Baseball is a very random sport. Theoretically, we could go deep and always just win games clearly because we are better. Its just super unlikely. You can change absolutely to almost certainly in your mind if it makes you feel better.
  13. 1) completely overhaul pitching development, especially in high minors and majors. Spend alot of money on making good hires from the best teams in baseball at pitching dev. 2) i dont really care after that
  14. Luck can play a massive role in one game of baseball and we had much worse luck today. Thats just baseball. It’s not ALL luck but we definitely were unlucky today. If we get in again next year and go deep we will absolutely have games where we get the lion’s share of the luck. We also didnt lose by 10 runs. We lost by one. The whole make your own luck, and its all on us, is just manager speak.
  15. You can absolutely score 3 runs on luck. I just literally saw it today.
  16. That is such an inbetweener in a loud stadium. I don’t know if i can blame either of them that much. More bad luck than bad play.
  17. I love kirk as a number 4 hitter. Great eye, fantastic plate coverage, doesnt strike out. The only problem is that he is a double play threat, but he makes so much contact.
  18. I was clogging up a thread with the same point over and over. Romano wouldnt be the guy in a good pen.
  19. I have a solid history of hating our pitching dev and being told to shut up about it. Which is fair because i was repeating myself. I dont even think you need to fire atkins. Just overhaul pitching dev. Hire from rays, dodgers, guardians, yankees, mariners
  20. Yea, the playoffs are nuts generally. Even in this game, lets face it, we got pretty unlucky.
  21. Thats fine but people understand that the stuff being bad is the big massive overwhelming majority of the problem, right?
  22. Its not roster construction. Its us being a dumb team that cant develop nasty pitching like the smart teams can. Its hard to buy a nasty bullpen. Schneider made a mistake…. Maybe… you’ll always run into mistakes when your bullpen sucks. Literally any manager we get would run into similar mistakes.
  23. Blue jays employees dogging the manager and not the front office on sportsnet. Interestingly predictable. A new manager will fix that pen for sure.
  24. This game was bad luck. We did have a good season. He f***ing sucks at developing pitching and bullpen building. All true at the same time.
