    I expected basically everyone to go and for us to make new hand picked hires with a good sprinkling of guys from their previous org.

    There isn’t anything wrong with Pete, but it was a bad first sign in terms of us becoming a Guardian’s type pitching org. I thought it was weird at the time at least.

    No its not. Just because he’s the MLB coach doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be integrated into our entire system and way of doing things. Its just shows a complete lack of new ideas right from the jump.

    Because you are instituting a new culture and a whole new way of doing things. And you are coming from an org that had already at that time shown they were better at this than us.

    I keep hearing about how good he is but i don’t know. We seem to have the normal amount of good and bad. Its not really how about good he is either. Its just that we hired guys from one of THE best pitching orgs in the majors and they didn’t even bring their own coach. That was a bad sign regardless of Walker’s quality.

    God damn, also our heralded pitching coach. When we hired guys from cleveland and then they just kept our pitching coach, that should have been the sign that we didn’t get the right guys from cleveland .

    We don’t need to tank. We need to cut Atkins before we need to tank. We need a course correction.

    I’m going to be hearing about this lab for years before we see one nasty homegrown reliever. The Rays are probably working in a building without air conditioning.

    Well according to that GM poll we aren’t elite at literally anything. I’d say it is absolutely obvious that we aren’t elite or anywhere near it at pitching dev. Which is what you expected me to say lol. We need to fire Atkins. We should have done it years ago. It shouldn’t have taken this long to build up a stock of arms in the minors. We STILL don’t have much pitching depth in AAA. How the f*** did we hire the cleveland guys who don’t do pitching?

    I’m pessimistic because this division is really really good and shows no sign of getting worse. I’d expect baltimore and boston to have more talent in the majors next year. The yankees and rays looks like they will be perenially good. So, you need to be good at everything and we obviously lag in a number of areas.

    I dunno… this window could close earlier than we think. You really need a constant stream of talent.

    The yankees and the rays have been competitive for a while and they generally have good systems

    Man the top of our minor league system sucks. I haven’t really looked at in a while. Our Front Office is mediocre as f***.

    Biggio and Espinal have options, right? I think Biggio at least has to go. If we had someone to replace Espinal, that might help as well although i can’t think of anyone for him.

    This is not a manager problem, any problems with this team are more to do with having an above average front office in a division with a few good to excellent ones. This has been obvious for years.

    I mean, is it possible that the pitcher could actually throw good offspeed pitches?

    How many years is this now that our bullpen has been meh?

    On the Manoah hook, we have a day off before and after this series, the series before the starters went deep.. a more proactive manager hooks manoah at the end of the 4th or at worst, once Marsh gets on, or absolutely worst before Turner. We have the arms and he’s throwing trash, there is no law that he has to be left in.
