    Trading rentals for lottery tickets is a smart move obviously, but they shouldn't be trading anyone away who has control and will help win next season (and they likely won't), unless it's somehow an upgrade.

    What's the QO on Varsho and would he reject it? Looking at all the other potential options, getting Varsho back on a one year deal would be probably be the best possible outcome IMO.

    This season has gone down the pishadoo, what are the building blocks for next season? About $200 million estimated luxury tax payroll according to fangraphs, key arb eligible guys are Sanchez, Varland, Ernie, Lukes.. C - Kirk / Valenzuela 1B - Vladdy 2B - Clement 3B - Okamoto SS - Giminez OF - Barger, Santander, Lukes, Sanchez, Clase, Pinango, Straw (if $8m option picked up) SP - Cease, Yesavage, Ponce, Miles RP - Varland, Rogers, Hoffman, Fisher, Fluharty Should have lots of money to spend if Rogers doesn't cut back on the budget. Hopefully they can get some lottery tickets for Springer, Varsho, Gausman and Bieber.

    I wonder if Keys is going to be able to adjust to MLB pitching or is he just going to be another AAAA guy that destroys MiLB pitching and can't hit a lick in the show? Assuming Barger is healthy next season, there could be an influx of power to the line up. Okamoto Barger Santander Vladdy (if he ever figures out how to fix his LA) Sanchez Keys Nimmala (assuming he makes his debut at some point)

    The biggest reason for this teams drop off is the offense and the biggest reason the offense has dropped off IMO is lack of patience at the plate (pitch selection). As a group they're hacking away at pitchers pitches way too often.

    One of the most surprising things from this season for me is Ernie's sub par play at 2B. I figured if he and Giminez could produce 90-100 wRC+ with all star defense in the MIF we'd be in great shape. Well, Ernie's glove is way worse than expected but he's produced a 108 wRC+ so far. The two combined are 2.8 fWAR so far. Not bad, not great either.

    Remember when 22 year old Vladdy had a 166 wRC+, 48 home runs and 6.3 fWAR? Pepperidge farm remembers....

    That's mostly fair, but if you want to zoom out even further you've got: 2021 - 91 wins 2022 - 92 wins 2023 - 89 wins 2024 - 74 wins 2025 - 94 wins To me 2024 is the clear outlier and looks more like a fluke bad season than 2025 looking like a fluke good season no? So I can't blame the guy for adding to the core and running it back. Now the big question going forward is what are Vlad and Kirk? But they are already signed long term so you pretty much have to tweak the roster around them and hope they bounce back.

    He brought back the same team that almost won the World series but with improvements like Okamoto and Cease. This is on the players, not Ross Atkins. Mainly the core guys like Vlad and Kirk who are hitting well below what anyone would or should expect. The Jays have also had the 7th most regular season wins and the 5th most playoff wins in MLB since 2022 to go along with 4 playoff appearances in 6 years. Pretty good resume when you don't let your emotions take over and cloud your judgement.

    Yeah man, a 4 game sweep at home against a team you are neck and neck with for the WC race was the death knell. And that was after losing 2 of 3 to the Astros at home the series before. 6 huge losses in a row at home against direct competition. 3 of them by one run and 2 of them by two runs. Last years team finds a way to win most of those games.

    If you'd have told me at the start of the season that Cease, Varland and Okamoto would be as good as they've been, I'd have said the Jays will probably win the division in a landslide. If you'd have told me they'd be in last place just after the AS break I'd have laughed my ass off at you.

    The Red Sox run diff has been hovering around even all season. It's amazing how much of an accurate story run diff usually tells. Now with their current win streak their run diff is well above zero and second best in the division. I won't be surprised if the Tigers go on a tear at some point as well as they are under performing their pythag by a fair bit right now. Jays are in trouble unless Vlad goes on a heater, Bieber keeps pitching like he did today and Gausman finds his form down the stretch.

    Hoffman hadn't given up a single earned run in his last 13 appearances and only twice in his last 20 appearances.

    Yesvage didn't even give them a chance tonight. This team is comical. How many good starts get wasted because these dummies won't score any runs? Then you get tonight, a game where they are probably going to score a bunch, and they score 7, but the SP decides to walk everyone.

    I'm just pumped that Hoffman finally isn't getting BABIP'ed to death. Since June 4th he has a 0.69 ERA. That late inning trio the Jays have going has been unreal for over a month now. Varland, Rogers, Hoffman I don't know if the Jays have ever had a three headed bullpen monster like that before. Too bad Yimi's arm fell off, could be a 4 headed BP monster.

    Bieber will probably suck the rest of the season, sign a pillow deal somewhere else next year and put up a 4 fWAR season.

    I don't see any issue here. Nance is nothing more than cheap RP depth and he's 35 years old with 0.0 fWAR in 33 IP and he has zero options. The Jays season is not going to live or die because of Tommy Nance. I'll take a lottery ticket for him happily. The Jays will replace him quickly if they haven't already.

    The Jays may sell (I doubt it) but either way, this trade doesn't really signify a sell off.

    I'm hoping Atkins pulls something out of the blue like trading for Buxton or something, although that seems unlikely as the Twins are somehow closer to a WC spot than we are, with a much better run diff too. Adding a bat like that to the middle of the line up could ignite the whole team IMO, plus he's insurance for CF moving forward with Varsho a pending free agent.

    Vlad, Springer, Kirk and Bieber have been complete ass. Gausman has sucked for the last month. These guys need to get their crap together. If even a couple of them do the Jays could get on a roll. Oka - 2.0 fWAR Valenzuela - 1.6 fWAR Giminez - 1.5 fWAR Varsho - 1.2 fWAR Clement - 1.0 fWAR Lukes - 1.0 fWAR Nothing eye popping but all these guys have been steady. Vlad/Kirk/Springer combined just 1.4 fWAR Also of note, Bieber and Scherzer combine for minus 1.2 fWAR in just 35 combined IP. BRUTAL With Scherzer rehabbing and likely back soon, those two have to be better.
