  1. This is a great bit of business that Shatkins got accomplished and completely necessary due to the prospect capital given up to acquire Berrios. Well done Now let's go out and land a front line starter in free agency to replace at least some of what Ray brought last season. Scherzer would be amazing, or Gausman. It'd be nice to get a free agent to fill that hole so they don't have to spend more prospect capital acquiring a starter from Oakland, Miami or Cincinnati.
  2. Oh f*** me that is awesome if true!
  3. Sign Scherzer and Verlander. f*** I would love that. Keeps the long term payroll flexible while adding a couple veteran aces.
  4. lol I'm starting to think we might see: C - Jansen DH - Kirk 3B - Moreno ...quite a bit next season. With Kirk and Moreno also getting starts at C, and Moreno getting to DH once in a while as well. Having three catchers on the roster who can all hit (as long DJ doesn't forget how again) and then one that can also play some 3B will be awesome. Plus they're all still dirt cheap to boot. Would allow for the Jays to pay through the nose for elite pitching both in the rotation and the bullpen.
  5. Yeah the Marlins looking to possibly trade a starter, the A's supposedly cutting payroll and rebuilding so one or more of their starters are supposed to be available, plus the Reds are also cutting costs. I hope the Jays shore up the pitching staff in free agency though, and hang onto their prospect capital for now. If they can't manage that, it's nice to know they might be able to trade for a Pablo Lopez, Sean Manea, Chris Bassitt, Sonny Gray or Luis Castillo.
  6. Reading between the lines it seems that unless something falls in their laps, the Jays will hang onto their prospect capital and avoid big contracts when it comes to acquiring and signing position players. Biggio at 2B and an internal battle for 3B between Espinal/Smith/Moreno possibly. I suspect they'll be going guns ablazin' for pitching though. Try to sign 2 high end FA starters and a few solid to high end relievers. Acquire what they can't sign via trade after that.
  7. Would it be a good idea or a bad idea to spend $20-25 million on Iglesias and Mchugh combined? Relievers can be so volatile, but those two seem consistent. I also wonder what it would cost to acquire Taylor Rogers from the Twins. A year left at $6 million on his contract. Iglesias Romano Mchugh Rogers Mayza Cimber Richards Merryweather That could be one hell of a good bullpen.
  8. Just a few posts back in this thread MikeM said he thought Thor could get $100 million on the open market.
  9. That'd be quite the gamble signing Thor to 4 x 25 or 5 x 20 or something like that. Apparently Verlander is having a show case tomorrow for teams to watch him pitch. I bet he signs with the Yankees if he looks good.
  10. Even if they move Moreno off of catcher for now, I think there is a chance we could still see Kirk moved for a young controllable starting pitcher. Jansen finally got healthy and finally stopped getting f***ed by the BABIP monster, I don't think he's a flash in the pan, and there is nothing wrong with Mcguire as a back up catcher. I think Kirk would have more value in a trade, but he's also more of a risk because of his body type. I don't think we see the Jays give out another Springer type contract this off season to a position player over the age of 30. I think they are going to go hard after Gausman via free agency, and I think they are going to go hard for Ramirez via trade.
  11. I just keep coming back to Jose Ramirez at 3B for the Jays. Hate losing high end prospects, and it's not good that he'd only be under control for two more season, but damn he's such a perfect fit. He replaces Semien's production all by himself, fills the gaping hole at 3B with above average defense, and adds a switch hitting MVP caliber bat. Then you have a healthy Biggio back at 2B with his solid high OBP left handed bat and just like the Jays likely have a solid 9-10 WAR combined between the two of them, and have diversified their offensive profile. Man it's going to be a long off season, with the CBA issues and waiting to see which way the Jays go in bolstering their roster.
  12. Listened to a pod cast yesterday, Zwelling I think...they had Atkins on. He sure sounded like he felt Biggio was still going to be a big part of the team next season. Was excited about his discipline at the plate adding a different look to the Jays batting order.
  13. I thought throw him a chair meant to "sit him down"....as in get him out.
  14. Love Freddie, but 6 years and $25 million per for a 32 year old 1B is not a great idea What do you do if Vladdy can't handle 3B?
  15. If the Jays think they can get a LH outfield bat like Schwarber, Conforto or Rosario, maybe they can use Gurriel as trade bait? Something like Gurriel, Espinal, Van Eyk for Chapman and Manaea or Bassitt maybe?
  16. The Jays should also do a procedure on Pearson where they extract some Alek Manoah blood and inject it into Nate Pearson. With Pearson's stuff, if he was as physically durable and mentally tough as Alek Manoah he'd steam roll MLB.
  17. I'd be ok with signing Kyle if it meant Corey was also signing with the Jays to play 2B.
  18. Kirk and Van Eyk for Pablo Lopez Sign Syndergaard 1 x $25M Sign Schwarber 3 x $45M Sign Yates 1 x $2M Sign Neris 3 x $33M Sign Givens 1 x 6M ---------------------------------------------- C - Jansen 1B - Vladdy 2B - Biggio 3B - Espinal / Smith SS - Bo LF - Gurriel CF - Springer RF - Teo DH - Schwarber 1. Springer 2. Vladdy 3. Schwarber 4. Bo 5. Teo 6. Gurriel 7. Jansen 8. Biggio 9. Espinal / Smith ------------------------------------------- B - Valera B - Espinal / Smith B - Mcguire B - Grichuk -------------------------------------- SP - Berrios SP - Manoah SP - Lopez SP - Ryu SP - Syndergaard CP - Romano RP - Neris RP - Givens RP - Yates RP - Mayza RP - Cimber RP - Merryweather RP - Richards I think that's roughly about a $175 million payroll?
  19. I wonder, are we continuing to sell Kevin Smith short as a future 3B for the Jays? 144 wRC+ as 24 year old rookie in AAA and strong defensive metrics. Maybe the Jays best course of action is to let Smith and Espinal (both projected as 90~ wRC+ by steamer and both solid defenders) duke it out for 3B duties
  20. I'm still hoping there is a way for both these teams to lose. I don't want to see the cheats win but it pisses me off to no end that a team with less wins than the Jays, and who the Jays went 6 for 6 against this season, is on the brink of a WS championship because they got hot at the right time and just happen to be in the shittiest division in baseball. They shouldn't have even got a sniff of the playoffs never mind win a WS. They won 88 games in a division where 2nd place only won 82.
  21. I hate the idea of losing the DH when you take your starter out. So your starter gets his s*** pushed in forcing you to take him out and now you lose one of your best f***ing hitters reducing your ability to come back and win? Awful idea
  22. Could the Jays get Chapman plus one of Manea/Bassitt without giving up Orelvis/Moreno/Groshans? EDIT: LOL the post above I didn't see, pretty much answers that. Certainly possible I guess.
  23. I agree. What did Bo produce in his first 120~ games in MLB? 4 WAR? I could see Moreno coming up with 120~ games left next season and putting up 3-4 WAR at 3B
