He doesn't give out 6 60fv per team because 60fv is an all star. That would be ludicrous.
I'm assuming BA maybe has its' grades set at the 90% percentile outcome or something and fangraphs has it at some lower percentile. I'm not a subscriber.
I don't think they are factoring in that a third of his contract is deferred. It seems light anyway.
Anyway, that's still at least two top 100 prospects, probably three.
I mean three isn't really enough unless one of them is yesavage,
Something like Nimmala, King, Stanifer, Tieddeman maybe if they think they are all 50fv.
Maybe something like nimmala, parker, King, stanifer
Marte would be an extremely expensive in prospects if his projection is real. His contract is cheap and a ton of it is deferred. Back of the envelope it looks like 80-100m surplus value.
To give an idea of what that means for prospects, in 2018 dollars (when fangraphs wrote about this) a 50fv position player was worth 28m and a 50fv pitching prospect 21m. Let's increase those by 20% for inflation to 34m and 25m. So you'd need three 50fv hitters or 4 50fv pitchers to make a fair deal.
I like this. Seems like a low risk, medium reward type of situation.
edit: i guess the 40 man situation is a problem. He needs to go on there initially when he signs. But i don't know if that would be an issue.
I think take it slow with Cook because he profiles to have power but his current swing can't get to that. Take some time and see if you can tweak it and he could be a 5 tool guy.
The idea wasn't to move him to cf next season. It was to try him there in spring, and if he profiles as above average or even average, give him some reps during the season .. and then replace varsho if there aren't other options the year after.
CFs are quite hard to get. Most players defense degrades by free agency.
I don't know what that means. It could be old person lingo or young person lingo. I'm somewhere in between.
So, i guess... thanks or how dare you. Choose the appropriate one.
I would say that any mlb shortstop (in a literal sense) with top end sprint speed and range is capable of playing cf if they have good instincts for the position. Now,.. obviously they might have already found out on a backfield that the latter is not true, and he's no bueno there.
CF is down the spectrum. Some really good short stops wouldn't be fast enough but clement is. Otherwise its a lesser defensive position.
Correct, he did. Possibly yes. Correct, not a video game. Correct, clement is valuable.
You can stop conversations with people by not replying to them.
Varsho was a catcher who became a centrefielder. You know that right? We just played in a world series against a team who played mookie betts at short.
Could we overhaul the minor league side and keep pete walker as a finisher. So, change prospects at least if not major league signings?
No matter how much we spend we aren't going to be dodgers north unless we can develop like them.
You can extend varsho who i do not think will age well, promote our non existent close cf prospects or trade capital for a centre fielder, or sign one in a terrible FA class next year.
There absolutely is a need.
I think they should try him at centre field. He has great instincts and range plus good sprint speed. His arm isn't great but the arm is probably less important there than in right ... maybe. If he can be league average, which isn't crazy imo.. he could be the varsho replacement next year,
You techincally need a better arm to play short than third as the longest throw is in the hole, but that throw happens less than long throws at third.
So clement should be better at short than third. Bichette should be best at third?
also, i assume that's gimenez?
I said this in the other thread but i'd offer him in trade and we'll take all the salary for this year. All 18 million. A team gets a free year and he might even opt out. Then we get the cash off the books next year when its a year where we could be trying to get under a number.
I feel like this has san diego written all over it.
Just choosing between them in a vacuum or at their projected contracts?
mlb trade rumours has 11/400 and bo at 8/208. They have been pretty accurate in their predictions so far.
Bassit is going to get a real multi year starting contract from a team. He is not realistic.
Scherzer is making 15m this year from the nationals. If he really wanted to he could take 5m and start the year on the IL or something. Or join mid year.
They do play in like a development league in the complexes which essentially replaced short season. There aren't public stats thought and i'm not sure who played or how much.
Its crazy how penny wise pound foolish baseball owners are. They are really messing with development of their players. It also widens the gap. The smart big market teams will put even more money into development to try to bridge the gap.
I think the word on cook is that he has natural contact skills but they need to rework his swing some to get to power. He had high scores at the combine at the test that correlates to power, i forget what it was .
