Yes absolutely. You seem to think we will have 3 pitchers over 160 innings as a likely event every year. I'll take the other side on that. What odds will you give me?

I believe they were. Even with usually healthy starting pitching there will be one year where a gausman, berrios, bassit type miss a lot of time.

I brought it up because it was the genesis of the whole conversation. The dodgers are excellent at pitching development and they spend out of their ass. Its not replicable.

sorry, wasn't the original point that we could try to do what the dodgers do? okay, we have 2 guys who can eat innings. So, we re-sign Bassitt to make that three. When do we sign the three oft injured aces for the postseason?

We had three pitchers break 160 innings. That's a good health year.

We were pretty clearly talking about starting pitching. The original point is that we cannot do what the dodgers do because we don't have their depth. Or their talent. They have 4 pitchers probably better than our best. Or at least three.

Its both. They do a good job with selecting for health but also its a good year when only one starter misses much time.

Yea just scherzer missing significant time in the rotation is fantastic luck. I'd say we had a way worse injury year on the hitting side.

I mean we also got fantastic injury luck last year. That might not repeat. Anyway, in comparison to the dodgers its not deep. Its not terrible tho.

I sometimes wonder how much better american baseball would be if they developed players the way soccer does in europe. If you are from a poor family in london and you show elite soccer potential, you are going to get elite coaching until you fail. People fall through the cracks but not that many. The american system is fantastic for the olympics as the high school and college system especially just puts money into sports that other countries can't compete with. But i think there is a reason that even though they have huge soccer playing numbers, that they still kind of suck. European countries are just better at developing soccer talent. -
That's an average to slightly above average rotation imo

The dodgers have so much pitching though. Like its insane depth. They could afford to have those guys not play all year. We need pitching imo in free agency.

I think lopez having better bat speed does give him a little more upside of all that group, but clement gets to the sweet spot launch angle wise a ton. He really actualizes all he has in games. I do think lopez has the most upside. Miami have done pretty good getting guys. Stowers was a great get as well.

Don't you think the marlins would want more control and a younger player? With their budget, they need to create their own clements. They can't be trading guys like sandy a for them.

Clement as well has a pretty bad one compared to this year.

Its interesting steamer has bo as a non negative defender next season. I think I agree these contract estimates underrate him.

Alot of those kinds of moves depends on how repeatable guys like clement and lukes are. Does this front office have a skill of finding multi positional guys who they can increase the bat speed a bit on and make into near league average hitters? If they are confident about that, i don't hate it.

Steamer 600/200 (based on 600 pas or 200 innings) has it at 2.1 vs 2.7. I personally wouldn't do it because he is possibly back up to like three spots. Having a 2 WAR guy as that is massive. I don't think its crazy but also i think miami would want more control coming back.

I'd keep berrios and hope for a rebound. His velo was down alot for 31. Its possible he was playing injured and he can get back to being a decent innings eater next year.

I'd go Okamoto if you think he can play third. Slide clement full time to third. Then spend on pitching.

Yea, i think someone like Williams at the top of the market, or a reclamation at the bottom.
