  1. Mattingly undoubtedly has helped Vlad with his defense at first base and may have contributed to the good clubhouse culture, but I firmly believe going away from his offensive philosophies this year and having each player play to their strengths was a big part of unlocking this team and going on this run. I personally don't feel like this is a big loss and wouldn't be surprised at all if the Jays asked him to leave and let him frame it as walking away.
  2. I would not be the least bit surprised to see Triston McKenzie singed by the Jays as a reclamation project.
  3. If the Pirates trade Skenes rather than spend to build around him they should just fold the franchise or force the owner out.
  4. For luxury tax purposes, Vlad is only adding about 7 million to his count this year, In terms of real money, he won't be more expensive either as a $20 million signing bonus was given in 2025.
  5. Expect to see a lot of deals include signing bonuses this offseason. It's just ripe for a team that just pulled in a ton of revenue to take advantage.
  6. Every single team in the league had stretches like that. That's baseball. And maybe, just maybe...this team had something to do with those offenses going cold and those pitchers having bad games. Hint: It wasn't a coincidence.
  7. 2001...Mo, the greatest closer ever...blew game 7 of the World Series. It happens.
  8. This is what makes me think they might be discussing an extension. I would have expected the opt out to be announced already, but my thinking is perhaps the Jays have asked him not to do so yet as part of extension negotiations (like perhaps they add more in the years following in exchange for him picking up the option for the first year or something along that line.
  9. I haven't seen any news on Bieber opting out. Do you suppose this means the Jays and him are in talks on an extension?
  10. True, but I hope to god IKF can get back to the bag faster than Max Muncy had he had a lead as big as muncy was off the base...otherwise just leave Bo in hobbled and all. Gimenez clearly tried to go the other way on his liner. Varsho wasn't going to be doing that.
  11. Honestly, I would guess that these guys were already hearing good things about Toronto from Kikuchi. Many of the younger guys idolized him..
  12. It is so nice that this thread started about a month later than usual!
  13. I'm just thankful we didn't lose in 7 in 1992 or 1993. 11 and 12 year old me would NOT have been able to handle a loss like this.
  14. This, I will be interested to see the XBa of the clement hit, the Vlad line drive to the gap that was caught and the Kirk liner to Muncy.
  15. Nope, that’s the kind of deflating thing this team has rallied behind all postseason.
  16. Doesn’t he swing a way heavier bat than anyone else in the league?
  17. Jesus, I can’t believe he hit that that far and somehow found a gap.
  18. Could someone please ask Blake Snell for his thoughts on this?
  19. Yep, the rule was introduced at the same time (or as part of) the shift rules.
  20. Here's hoping for another storybook moment like this one tonight! This is when legends are born!
  21. Hmm, I wonder if the three batter rule would apply if they move to a different spot in the field? I suspect it would if they start the inning.
  22. I'm not sure any manager would have the cajones to try this. If it worked you would be lauded but if it doesn't work out you might get raked across the coals and run out of town. Judging by the fact a 2B and SS can't swap positions every batter it might only be possible to do mid-inning if another player is removed from the game.
  23. I get it for those guys a bit, but even at minimum salary for a year they are making more than many people on this board will make in 10-20 years. Yes, 15% or more goes to agents, managers, union and clubhouse fees, but still hard to feel too concerned for them once they make the big leagues. The minors is no joke though and most of those guys are sorely underpaid. Think about Lukes who toiled away for ten years....can't help but feel happy for him. I've never understood why a team wouldn't jump at the opportunity to pay their minor league guys a living wage so they can focus fully on baseball, recovery, nutrition, etc in the offseason rather than working 2-3 jobs to survive. It's seems like a relatively cheap competitive advantage but maybe ruffling the feathers of the other cheap billionaires prevents it. I also get for some of these guys a single years paycheck is all they will get so the playoff salary will be great for them....but specifically Trey, I don't think it is as crazy.
