  1. Steamer is projecting that Simeon Woods Richardson would have a near 7 K/9 and 3.85 BB/9 if he were to pitch in the majors right now. That seems kind of absurd for an 18 year old in High-A, no?
  2. By quite good, I mostly meant that I can pretty easily envision them having a team wRC+ of at least 100. Which may seem unimpressive on paper, except when you consider that contenders like the Rays, A's, Cubs, and Nat's are also hovering around that mark and the majority of teams end up below that during the course of a full season. It's obviously a tremendous stretch to assume they'll be a Red Sox/Yankees/Dodgers/Astros level of offense, but I do see a team wRC+ of 100 as a floor for them. Am I being optimistic and betting on a few breakouts? Absolutely. But most teams that have turned a corner in recent years usually rely on a couple breakout performances from their younger players. This still shouldn't prohibit us from being aggressive this offseason. I see no reason to play sitting duck and waste a year of Bo/Vladdy and others in their prime. Go out and be aggressive like the Reds were last offseason, who quite frankly, we're in a MUCH better position than entering this offseason given our financial flexibility.
  3. I’ve had little issue with this front office thus far, but I will be extremely disappointed if they choose not to aggressively pursue good quality pitching this offseason. We’re at a point now where we can say the position player core is quite good. They’re also young enough that you can expect most of them to improve next year. I really hope they don’t waste a very valuable dirt cheap pre arbitration year of Vlad, Bo, Gurriel, Jansen etc, because this team might actually have an outside shot at a wildcard if they add good enough pitching. Shoemaker and Borucki is a fine starting poin for a bottom of the rotation,, but guys like Thornton, Waguespack, Pannone should all be starting in the year at AAA next season. Our AAA rotation and SP depth will actually look quite strong. Ideally, Gerrit Cole makes total sense, but at worst they need to add 2 guys from that middling pitcher free agency pool (Odorizzi, Roark, Miley, Wheeler etc).
  4. 2 pitchers is all we know
  5. Seems like a very mature, down to earth, and good natured kid. This stat especially seems bonkers: He connects on 88 percent of his swings.
  6. John Lott did a great piece on Gabriel Moreno on the Athletic. I'll post it here.
  7. After last nights outing, Joey Murray has a 3.54 FIP and 3.14 xFIP in AA. I hope he becomes a guy in AAA next season.
  8. Orelvis Martinez had a 2 homer game today. I feel 2 homer games are exceptionally rare for 17 year olds in the GCL. He's doing well in his first taste of pro ball. Also, Miguel Hiraldo isn't getting much attention on here but he's putting up a 132 wRC+ in the Appy-league as an 18 year old.
  9. Woods-Richardson: 5IP 5H 1R/ER 1BB 3K 77 pitches.
  10. They have, but I wouldn’t dismiss the fact that we split with the Yankees and won 2 out of 3 from the Rays in the middle of their hot streak. How they perform in the upcoming schedule will be a big test though.
  11. The good news is that he has shown time and time again he can limit home runs in pretty much every level of the minors. If he can be Dakota Hudson, I'll take that in a heartbeat.
  12. Zeuch 93 mph sinker and curve:
  13. It's nice to see the farm in a nice place despite so many graduations. Manoah, Kay, Pardinho, Woods-Richardson, Moreno, and Kirk are all Top 100 guys to me at this point.
  14. Bichette's ability to hit to all fields is freakish man.
  15. There was concerns about his velo decline.
  16. I know his results have been good in the majors this season, and I’m the last guy to give up on players so young (especially pitchers), but I just really don’t see it with Reid-Foley. His stuff is so incredibly flat. If he does end the season on a high note, I wouldn’t be opposed to trading him for something in the offseason. Sell high.
  17. So Miguel Hiraldo is doing quite well in the Appy league: .313/.357/.505, 131 wRC+ Still only 18 years old. 3 years younger than the average player.
  18. So does hoping that the future of this team keeps doing well so the turnaround starts as early as next season. This regime has proven time and time again that they don’t need a top pick to succeed in the draft.
  19. Joey Murray: 5IP, 2H, 1ER, 4BB, 8K
  20. I'm not saying Wilmer Font is or isn't good, but he'd hardly be the first 29 year old to break out. Especially pitchers who tend to figure it out later than position players.
  21. Only Groshans and Pearson would be Top 100 as of now, but you could make the case that Manoah, Kay, Pardinho, Woods-Richardson, Moreno, and Kirk are right on the cusp of Top 100 lists if not there. Kay and Pardinho were literally Top 100 prospects before the draft guys came in.
  22. Really small sample size, but Simeon Woods-Richardson has a 2.74 FIP and 2.77 xFIP in High-A so far. He also has a 11.9 K/9, 3.3 BB/9, and 4.0 H/9 as an 18 year old...
  23. Miguel Hiraldo: 2-for-5 with a stolen base Gabriel Moreno: 2-for-4 with a HR Alejandro Kirk: 2-for-3 with a walk
  24. Gabriel Moreno's swing is crisp:
  25. Should be Gerrit Cole, but realistically I’d be fine with a Jake Odorizzi type. I just don’t want us getting the likes of Clayton Richard again. Get some pieces with good upside.
