  1. One of Martin, Veen, Meyer is guaranteed for us, so that's pretty nice.
  2. Max Meyer apparently is going to Miami.... which means we are good for Martin or Veen.....
  3. Interesting that they announced him as a 3B
  4. Final Longenhagen mock draft has us taking Meyer at #5: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/mock-draft-3-0-the-day-of/
  5. Final Fangraphs Mock Draft has us taking Max Meyer. That's a sweep for the Jays taking Meyer for all mock drafts. MLB.com will do another mock right before the draft starts, but it's looking like Meyer is our guy. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/mock-draft-3-0-the-day-of/
  6. Damn, didn't realize Meyer carved up the Tar Heels who are one of the better teams in college baseball.
  7. Does anyone have access to the BA 500? I know we've posted it in years past. If someone with a membership could copy/paste it into a word doc and provide a download link, that'd be great
  8. Torkelson is apparently athletic enough to maybe move to a corner outfield spot. In terms of his bat, I've read scouts say he's much better and polished than Kris Bryant was coming out of college. Less swing and miss to his game. But no surprise to me that he's going first overall. The kid holds a career 1.200 OPS in college.
  9. MLB.com, Law, Kiley, Baseball-America all have us on Meyer day of. Waiting on the Fangraphs, but Max Meyer is seemingly our guy. Could do worse than getting a guy with two plus-plus pitches. Get him through the pitching lab, add muscle, clean up his delivery slightly, work on his changeup, and he'll be a top of the rotation guy. He could probably do well enough in the majors as a two pitch bullpen guy this year if needed.
  10. I generally agree with best player available, but the pitching is so deep in this class that I kind of hope we end up taking an impactful bat 5th (Veen/Gonzales). There will still be plenty of good pitching to pick from in the 2nd round.
  11. I definitely see the appeal of Max Meyer, but Hancock seems slightly more advanced and polished in terms of a finished product. I mean, if he had 4 great starts instead of alright ones to start the college season, there’s no way he would fall to us at #5. Seems like people are putting too much stock onto his slow start when he was literally the best pitcher in college baseball last season. Veen > Hancock > Gonzales > Meyer imo.
  12. Also seems to fit the model for recent prep position players. Hit first, high barrel%, and big exit velo. Not too dissimilar to Groshans and Bichette. Kind of reminds me of Kelenic coming out of the draft, but with more power and size.
  13. Almost a surety that we'll be able to get one of Veen, Meyer, or Gonzalez, and I'd personally prefer them in that order. Although to be fair, even if this front office goes way off the board, I think they deserve a benefit of the doubt. Their drafting has been mostly fantastic. Logan Warmoth is looking like the biggest dud they've drafted. Other than that, Pearson, Groshans, Manoah seem like strong picks. I know people are down on TJ Zeuch here, but even he made the majors which is more than can be said for the rest of the 2016 1st rounders.
  14. Zeuch has at least made the majors and still has a small percentile probability to become Doug Fister/Mike Fiers. Actually not a terrible outcome for where he was drafted. Warmoth is more or less a lost cause at this point.
  15. Drafting Bichette, Pearson, Groshans, Manoah 4 consecutive years seems more than just happenstance. They've been consistent in getting at least one high impact guy in each draft. Groshans especially was a big head scratcher on draft night and they deserve props for taking him so highly. Re: High Performance Dept, I may be wrong, but I recall Shapiro doing an interview in early 2016 and stating how archaic our player development/nutrition/training systems were and how they had to get better. Clearly there's been some overhaul since then, and hopefully we get to see the fruit of that labor soon.
  16. This front office has demonstrated that they're more than competent evaluating amateur players. I wouldn't care if they went way off the board to pick someone at #5. What's the one big miss in their tenure? Logan Warmoth in 2017? Every other draft has seen their top picks stock only rise upward (Pearson, Manoah, Groshans, Kloffenstein). Even the time they took JB Woodman in 2016, they were quick to capitalize any value he had and flipped him for Aledmys Diaz. Their major league scouting department could use some work, but their amateur drafting and international free agent signings have been fantastic.
  17. Tommy John for Chris Sale.
  18. SEC suspended its baseball season.
  19. NBA just indefinitely suspended its season due to a player testing positive.
  20. They worked together all offseason to help Jansen come up with a hitting routing before games, and also did stuff with Blast Motion. Jansen said he had absolutely no routine for hitting before games all of last season, but he's going to strictly adhere to it this season.
  21. Danny Jansen is hitting .529 with a 1.953 OPS and only 1 K this Spring. Ray Borucki for hitting coach?
  22. I wonder if Espinal has the raw tools to play an adequate CF. Could profile better there offensively if he can stick. His bat-to-ball is very intriguing, and he seems to have a good approach at the plate. Hopefully he can run into a few more homers with the juiced ball.
  23. He was hitting 96 deep into some AA games last season too. #9 in our system is aggressive, but he's definitely one of the more intriguing arms if the changes are legit.
  24. Definitely the highest I’ve seen Thomas Hatch on any of our lists.
