  1. I’m not sure what anyone can point to in their regimes as “major” blunders. The return for half a season of Happ? Morales free agent signing? Solarte for Edward Olivares? The biggest I can think of is not trading Donaldson for Flaherty. Projections may have said otherwise, but I think it was a foregone conclusion that we weren’t gonna make the playoffs in 2018 with the Yankees/Red Sox being super teams. A 1-2-3 of Flaherty-Ryu-Pearson would be unreal to have right now.
  2. Are they going to be showing any games of "Spring Training v2"?
  3. Nice article on Joey Murray by Arden Zwelling: https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/joey-murray-quietly-became-key-pitching-prospect-blue-jays/
  4. Martin could be in the majors playing CF for us by next season and starting his service time clock. That's worth more than the extra $1M he would get if he risks not signing.
  5. I think they were banking on Bitsko dropping to them at #30. On paper, Kjerstad + Bitsko is a fantastic haul. One of the best hitters and pitchers in the draft. I quite like Kjerstad, but I'd definitely take Martin over him anyday.
  6. Bit of a misnomer since they only have Martin's exit velocities out of any college hitter from this draft. I'd be interested to know Torkelson's/Kjerstad's exit velocity numbers. I would imagine both max and average are higher.
  7. Nice to see this farm system still be stocked despite graduating Bo, Vlad and Jansen just in the last year.
  8. They just ruined walk offs in one fell swoop. That sounds incredibly anti-climatic.
  9. For anyone interested, Shane Farrell was on the Keith Law podcast this past week going over the Jays 2020 draft haul: https://theathletic.com/podcast/168-the-keith-law-show/
  10. Not sure I want anything to do with Paxton given his injury history. Then again, we did just sign Ryu. But it'd be nice to have an arm that's a little more dependable. I really hope we end up playing games this season and the young teams shows flashes of contention. It would go a long way in showing ownership to spend money on Betts.
  11. My guess is Frasso signs for about $250K. I can’t imagine Martin turning down $7.2M. That’s slot for #3 overall.
  12. Fangraphs updated their Top 100 and team prospect rankings with the 2020 draftees. - Martin is ranked #52 in the Top 100 and becomes our 2nd best prospect behind Pearson - Jays system now has 5 top 100 prospects: Pearson #8, Martin #52, Woods-Richardson #80, Groshans #85, Martinez #95 - Torkelson is ranked #38 overall, Asa Lacy is ranked 49th. Only two draftees ahead of Martin. Kjersted comes in at #116.
  13. Maybe they had an agreement worked out with Boras already? Sign the rest of your picks as cheaply as you can, and give Martin the saving on top his slot value + the extra 5%.
  14. Yeah, maybe it's just the Vanderbilt INF connection making me think that way. By all accounts Martin on paper should be a better hitter. Martin had a better sophomore season than Dansby's draft eligible junior season. Absolutely no way Martin falls to #5 if the whole season plays out. He was on track for some video game numbers.
  15. I would expect Martin to have somewhat similar BB/K ratios to Altuve. Although Altuve took something like 4 full seasons to grow into his home run power. Hopefully Martin doesn't take quite that long. Maybe Xander Bogaerts with better discipline? I just hope he doesn't turn out like Dansby Swanson.
  16. Speaking of, how did Benintendi fall to #7 in the draft? Torched the SEC as a draft eligible sophomore, won almost every college award, played good defense at a premium position, showed good power. The Twins selected a college reliever before him.
  17. The lack of power with Martin is definitely his biggest drawback, but his hit tool is so advanced that he can likely tap into 15-20 HR's during the course of a 162 game season. He'll be more doubles than homers early on, but the hope is he grows into more power the more experience he gets.
  18. This regime has had mixed results when it comes to free agent signings/trades. I personally think they've been mostly fine on the trade front, but you can't argue that they've hit some big home runs when it comes to drafting. Bichette, Biggio, Pearson, Groshans, Kloffenstein, Manoah. Refreshing compared to some of the rough drafts AA had. Also nice to have a player development system that's Top 5-10 compared to the antiquated system we had before.
  19. Personally, I’d really like to hear it! I want to see everyone’s reaction when Baltimore passed on Martin and as it became apparent he may fall to us.
  20. Assuming we allot the entire 5% overage onto Martin, we can offer him about $6.7M. Which means we’ll have to save $300K-$400K between the other picks.
  21. Really doesn’t make sense for him to not sign. Boras will play hardball, but he’ll sign.
  22. Van Eyk has apprently come to terms with the Jays and will be above slot, according to this article: https://www.tampabay.com/sports/high-schools/2020/06/11/former-steinbrenner-pitcher-cj-van-eyk-is-first-tampa-bay-player-drafted/
  23. Elias already came out and said that some pitchers he liked for the 30th overall pick were gone when it was the O's turn. I think Bitsko was the plan before Tampa took him. Bitsko + Hjerstad would've been a solid haul, but they lost that gamble.
  24. Shane Farrell really killed his first draft with the Jays.
