  1. Still can't see him saying no to a near $7M bonus and a fast track to the majors. I think the only reason the deal doesn't happen is if the medicals come out wrong on his arm. We'll see what happens, but I'm not stressing his signability.
  2. Given how risk averse this front office is, I doubt they would draft someone without some level of assurance. I'm not even sure if this regime has missed on signing any draftees within the first 10 round since they joined? Fairly certain they'll sign everyone. Martin for ~$7M, fit the rest in after that.
  3. What is he saying?
  4. Marlins got a real nice collection of arms this draft.
  5. Huh, kinda like Austin Martin, eh Mike?
  6. O's have yet to pick someone who is going to be overslot. Maybe they really are looking to not spend as much this year in the draft. lol
  7. We can already offer Martin $6,665,415 with the 5% allowance. If we save some on Van Eyk, that'll get us to $7M. Hopefully that'll be enough to sign him.
  8. I would've preferred a college arm with a little more upside like Wilcox, Cole Henry, or Ginn, but Van Eyke is a pretty good pick. He was getting some good reports to start the season. Even better if we can get him underslot and save $$$ for Martin. Hoping we got with an upside prep player for number 3.
  9. Don't think he'll have consistent enough command to stick as a starter.
  10. I do not get the love for Jared Kelley. Bust waiting to happen in my opinion.
  11. Seems like the prototypical safe college pitcher.
  12. CJ Van Eyk! That’s a pretty good college arm!
  13. Nice pick by the Marlins.
  14. Cole Wilcox for me, personally.
  15. What about going overslot on #42 and getting a guy like Cole Wilcox or Chris MacMahon who were supposed to be first rounders? Punt the next 2 picks on seniors, but you’d be leaving the short draft with two quality players.
  16. Seems like it was equal parts ineptitude from the teams drafting before us and good timing and luck that allowed us to select Martin. The teams drafting 2-3-4 are notoriously cheap teams that may have had restrictions on the amount they could spend on Martin. Maybe the Marlins/Royals really leaned college pitching over hitting. Maybe the didn’t want to deal with Boras. Either way, glad we could take advantage of it. But if there were any other combination of teams picking 2-3-4, I can’t imagine Martin falls to us. Really no reason for the O’s to not draft Austin Martin there. Especially since they didn’t end up going overslot for their next pick.
  17. I’m not so sure this is true. Martin doesn’t really have much leverage. Even if do go over slot, it won’t be much.
  18. Average age in college will be 18-21, which sounds about right for A ball or High-A. Major difference being they use metal bats in college as opposed to wood in pro (this can be an adjustment for college players).
  19. Martin's 2020 stats: 16 games, 69 plate appearances, .377/.507/.660, 10BB, 2K. The kid had a 2.8% K rate in 70 PA's.
  20. Take Martin, plug him in CF.
  21. Royals taking Asa Lacy according to Longenhagen!!! We have our pick of Martin or Veen
  22. I'm pretty happy that one of Martin/Veen will be available to us. Hopefully we take one of them.
  23. Meyers to the Marlins
