  1. We have 8 Top 100 Prospects in Fangraphs updated rankings.
  2. There’s not many good quality videos of Orelvis Martinez’s swing, but here he is crushing a homer off Hector Neris in this years spring training: https://www.mlb.com/bluejays/video/orelvis-martinez-s-two-run-home-run Absolutely effortless power.
  3. Probably still Luciano since he’s not striking out as much, but they’re not too far apart from each other in my opinion.
  4. Pirates really killed this draft. First 4 picks were essentially ranked as 1st-round calibre talents 1. Henry Davis ($6.5M signing bonus) 2. Anthony Solometo ($2.8M signing bonus) 3. Lonnie White Jr. (TBD signing bonus) 4. Bubba Chandler ($3M signing bonus) Really maximized that pool bonus well. Cherington and Sander have done an excellent job restocking that farm with the Taillon, Bell, Marte, and Musgrove trades too in essentially a year. Might be the #1 system soon enough.
  5. Alternative spin: Ross Atkins and Mark Shapiro question their scouts to make sure their process is correct, find out how passionate they are about Bichette, and ultimately listen to their expertise and let them pick their guy as opposed to going over their heads and picking Romero 2.0 over Tulowitzki in a drunken power trip. But yeah, they were definitely the bad guys here.
  6. The reason we picked Woodman first was because we essentially had a deal with Bichette in place and it made sense to pick someone who might not be there at 66 before him. I’m pretty sure the Jays valued Pearson higher than Warmoth, but they still picked Warmoth first. Same strategy there. If you have 2 picks in close proximity, it makes sense to cut a deal and take a guy before him to get someone who might not be there later. Anyways, Bichette was only going to sign with a handful of teams that weren’t going to tinker with his swing, the Jays being one of them. Also lol at Steve Simmons. Literally starts that article with “You may not know the name J.B. Woodman, but he is what can happen when process and charts take precedence over old-school scouting in baseball.” He was out to get Shatkins from the very beginning of that article. And then also eschews the fact that Brian Parker is with the Dodgers and another guy is with the Rays. As if the Dodgers and Rays aren’t the most process driven orgs in the league.
  7. Bowden Francis through 6 no-hit innings. 6K’s, 2 walks, 81 pitches. Edit: Broken up in the 7th with a homer. Final line: 7IP, 1ER, 2BB, 7K, 92 pitches
  8. Bowden Francis (ranked 5th in the list) is the guy we got in the Tellez trade: Also, this article profiles him more: https://www.trentonian.com/sports/ex-brewers-prospect-bowden-francis-debuts-with-five-innings-as-bisons-beat-ironpigs/article_bbe59996-e4fc-11eb-b1f2-7f0155039555.html From the article: "Francis added a hard slider to his arsenal this year and now features four pitches, along with his mid-90s fastball, curveball and changeup." So mid 90's fastball with high spin, newly added slider, good minor league results with high K-rates (this season anyways). Did we maybe just get another Thomas Hatch for Rowdy Tellez?
  9. I didn't mind trading Griffin Conine I just wish it weren't for 22 games of Jonathan Villar.
  10. Might be tight to be able to sign all of Micah Bucknam, Ricky Tiedemenn, and Damiano Palmegiani with the remaining slot money.
  11. Maybe, but there's no way you take him over a .400/.500./600 hitter in one of the top college programs and in the SEC who also plays up the middle on draft day. Martin will be fine. He's getting adjusted in pro-ball against AA competition after almost a year of not playing baseball competitively and still has a near .800 OPS.
  12. Stripling has been our second best starter since he made demonstrable changes in his windup. 2.90 ERA since May 24th.
  13. I don't know why everybody is expecting Chris Sale to come up and immediately start being an ace. Generally speaking, the first year/season players come back from TJ is a bit of a write off in terms of results. Boston will be lucky if he ends up giving them average production this season.
  14. Is Vinny Capra interesting now? Repeating AA at age 24 (average for the level): 40 games, .372/.452/.651, 191 wRC+, 10.1BB%, 26.8K%, .500 BABIP (lol)
  15. Obviously I wish it were happening under other circumstances, but at least we have a guy like Hatch stretched out as a starter in AAA. Not the worst potential spot starter. And if he's going to be in the rotation next year, then he probably has to start getting major league starters innings in the 2nd half.
  16. They changed it now, but pretty sure they used a picture of Hiraldo in the main image.
  17. The Red Sox are infuriating. Since June 1st 100 wRC+ (17th) 4.70 starters ERA (17th) Record since then: 24-17 They've been middle of the pack for a decent stretch and still keep winning. Guess that's what can happen when you have a good bullpen. I want to win this series more than any other so far this year.
  18. Tiedemann is probably going to go overslot too. 18 year old JuCo arm that's projectable. Farrell himself said that it seems unlikely they sign Holman. It is what it is. It was a nice pick if somebody like Carter wasn't going to sign though.
  19. Was really hoping Torres’s SLG would drop down below .300, and then he had to go out and homer 2 games in a row.
  20. AA did an interview before the start of the season where he admitted as much. He said he cared very little about character in Toronto so long as they were good contributors to the team. Said he shifted his thinking when he was with the Dodgers and started caring more about makeup with the Braves after seeing the effect good chemistry had with the 2020 Braves. Oddly enough, the example he used was Marcell Ozuna. Said he was a great clubhouse presence and they did a ton of background work on his character before signing him to the long term extension. Evidently….not enough.
  21. Kevin Smith had himself a good double header: 5-for-8, 1 double, 1 HR Quickly playing himself into either debuting in the 2nd half or being traded for a decent return. Only issue I see with him is that he seems to be kind of streaky. He’ll have a hot couple games followed by an ice cold stretch often. But I guess that’s most major leaguers? Still only 24!
  22. The issue was less the drafting and more the archaic player development system we had. Our “player development” facility was probably the worst in the league, and we didn’t even start doing personalized player development plans until Shapiro came in. It was a sink or swim mentality for prospects. And wouldn’t you know it, when players got into our system, they were left to their own devices to figure out how to progress. There a strong chance that a guy like Cavan Biggio who had fringe average grades across the board coming out of the draft never makes it under our old player development system. The drafting was not great, but it wasn’t bad. Did seem like a lot of our 1st rounders under AA either didn’t sign, or flat out busted though. I do like the stress on make up as opposed to making draft choices purely based on talent that this front office seems to incorporate into their model.
