  1. John Axford has been look great in AAA and has touched 97-98 apparently. How long until we end up seeing him?
  2. What are the chances Vlad breaks an Arb1 record if he continues at the pace he’s going? Right now Bellinger has the record at $11.5M. I would think we try like hell to extend him either way.
  3. Manuel Beltre also had a real good day: 3-for-4 with a walk. No K’s. He actually has more walks than K’s this season (short sample obviously). One to look out for, because he was heralded as one of the more highly touted hitting prospects coming out of the IFA class. Shatkins is keeping that pipeline strong. I’m ready for the next wave of stud prospects after Moreno/Martin/Groshans. Has to be the deepest farm system the Jays have had in a while.
  4. They signed Yoan Moncada in 2015 for $32M (for which they also paid another $32M in overage fees) and they were incredibly restricted in the following 2 IFA classes. So in all, they spent $64M on one guy and were also unable to sign players for the next 2 classes. Pretty crazy, but it net them Sale which netted them a World Series. So probably worth it.
  5. I should've known better than to be posting during beer club at work.
  6. Rangers have a retractable roof in their new stadium.
  7. Just hoping we'll save enough to sign Holman. That's $110K right there from Hoglund, albeit it may end up being for Irv Carter.
  8. I’d slot him in around 7. 1. Gabriel Moreno 2. Austin Martin 3. Nate Pearson 4. Jordan Groshans 5. Simeon Woods-Richardson 6. Orelvis Martinez 7. Gunnar Hoglund. Could arguably make a case for 6, but I’m high on Orelvis Martinez. I know Manoah is still prospect eligible technically, but I’m not counting him since he’s fairly close to losing it.
  9. Damiano Palmegiani looks super balanced at the plate from what I've seen from him. Short & compact swing that generates easy pop. Looks like a physical specimen too. Hope we can sign him.
  10. Jays do love their pitchers with relatively clean deliveries. Makes it easier for them to stick as potential starters I suppose. There are teams that are completely okay with drafting guys with funky deliveries, but we seem to stay clear from them.
  11. Irving Carter, Calvary Christian Academy (FL) 4-SM FB 92-95 mph t96 (2600+ rpm) Slider 83-85 mph Curveball 81-84 mph Chnageup 84-85 mph
  12. Irv Carter was the #2 guy behind Andrew Painter in his HS. We're really loading up on pitching.
  13. They've tanked longer than we have, and have had higher picks, and yet we still have a better/deeper farm system than them. Honestly, beyond the Top 5 guys in their system, the quality falls off a cliff. Jordan Westburg is their #6 ranked guy. I'm not sure he would be Top 10 in our farm.
  14. The Cardinals are one of the more valuable franchises in baseball with high payroll and attendance numbers, but yeah, lets give them a competitive balance pick. Makes sense.
  15. There goes Adrian del Castillo to the Dbacks.
  16. The Rockies draft room is literally just comprised of 5 geriatric white guys.
  17. An actually good pick by the Orioles there, wow.
  18. Q: How high would Hoglund have gone if he didn’t have TJ? Eric Longenhagen: 6-10 range
  19. Apparently almost all the draft experts were saying there’s a strong chance that most teams will actually shut down any college pitchers they select due to the lack of a full college season last year and to manage innings. So there’s a chance that Hoglund doesn’t actually miss that much in-game development time compared to other pitchers in this draft. The hope is he works out of the developmental complex and adds enough strength and focuses on recovery that he experiences a velo bump/stuff increase. Combine that with his advanced approach and plus command, and you got a real nice looking prospect. Not saying he’s gonna be Walker Buehler, but maybe?
