  1. Apparently Padres are discussing a deal to send Hosmer + cash + Robert Hassell to the Rangers for Joey Gallo. What an awful contract by Preller lol. Can't believe he thought it was a good idea to give Hosmer $144M.
  2. Zach Logue is interesting despite what his ERA says. Not counting today: 10.9 K/9, 2.3 BB/9, 8.0 H/9, 3.68 FIP. I'm not able to find his velo anywhere (I know he sat 90-92 with his fastball when he was drafted), but he may have experienced a bump in velo and he already possesses high spin stuff. I think what I like most about him is that his secondary offerings (changeup and slider) both flash above average and are capable of getting both sides of the plate out. His fastball isn't anything exceptional, but he makes it work with location and attacking with the high strike. I've been a fan of him for a while now as an under the radar guy.
  3. Tanner Houck. He's been decent this year. Doesn't go that deep into games however.
  4. The things that's wrong is that he's not on the Rays anymore.
  5. Wow. Unbelieveably good start by Ray given the circumstances. Let's hope Romano can close it out.
  6. Another 2 doubles by Kevin Smith today. OPS is at 1.000 at this point. Gotta think he'd get a shot if there was a spot in the majors for him.
  7. Goddamn. I mean, in a vacuum, I would’ve traded Marcus Semien back to the A’s while eating the remaining money on his contract for Jesus Luzardo. I know Luzardo has had his ups and downs with injuries and performance, but what an absolute coup for 2 months of Starling Marte.
  8. Small sample size, but Jarred Kelenic has been somehow worse since his returned to the majors: 1st call up (23 games): .378 OPS 2nd call up (10 game): .319 OPS Big ooof.
  9. Mariners are now 55-46 with a -49 run differential and 1 game back of the 2nd wildcard.
  10. Andrew Chafin to the Athletics for Greg Deichmann and Daniel Palencia. #9 and #12 ranked prospects in the A’s farm system for half a season of Andrew Chafin. Seems like a definite sellers market this year.
  11. Kirby Snead getting the call up? Maybe it's the end of Jacob Barnes
  12. Nick Gonzales is kind of sucking right now in High-A. Same draft class as Austin Martin. Actually, most college hitters from the 1st round last year are not doing so well barring Spencer Torkelson. Only Austin Martin, Garrett Mitchell, & Torkelson are even in AA. So with that in mind, a 128 wRC+ for Martin with a .417 OBP in AA is pretty fantastic. Really the only concerning thing is the lack of power, but I expect him to start roping doubles when he gets more comfortable. The floor for him is really high in my eyes. edit: My goodness, Austin Martin's college numbers are nutty: Career slashline of .368/.474/.532 in the SEC with more walks than K's. For reference, Bregman in SEC slashed .337/.409/.514.
  13. Kevin Smith homered again, 2-for-4 so far. Up to 17 homers for the year now. Also has 13 steals.
  14. Adam Kloffenstein had a very bad start. 1.2IP, 3H, 6ER (7R), 4BB, 2K. ERA up to 6.16 for the season. Not great.
  15. Might be the best lineup we've had all season. If we can mix and match Cory Dickerson with Grichuk sometimes, it'll be even better.
  16. The only above-average starter the Rays have on their roster as of now is Shane McLanahan (102 ERA+). The others are Ryan Yarborough (86 ERA+), Michael Wacha (77 ERA+). And then a collection of long men/opener types. Gotta think they trade for a starter or two here soon.
  17. Okay seriously though, how are the Giants as good as they are. They’re spitting in the face of every projection system ever devised.
  18. 6.4 WAR through his first 162 games as a 23 year old making pre-arb. but yeah, totally not a Top 20 asset in baseball.
  19. Those packages are pretty ridiculous for 1.5 years of Joey Gallo. Teams don't generally trade good prospects anymore unless they get more control than that these days. Especially this front office. My guess is no one from our Top 10 gets moved and we end up buying low on some starter with control ala Stripling. Maybe a rental like Jon Gray who should come cheap.
  20. Baseball-America already had him around #30 not too long ago. MLB Pipeline is the only ones who have him ranked pretty low, but they seldom have prospects rise in rankings quickly.
  21. The Tigers have shifted in their rebuild cycle from horrendously bad to just bad, maybe even mediocre if they finish strong.
