  1. You gotta think between: Mitch White Yusei Kikuchi Thomas Hatch Nate Pearson Bowden Francis Anthony Kay Yosver Zulueta Ricky Tiedemann They can figure out something for that 5th spot. Would be a real nice time for Kikuchi to get his s*** together and/or someone from Buffalo to breakout. Not asking for much here. Just 5th starter production.
  2. I like Stripling, but you take Bassitt any time of the week over him. Between this deal, and them trying to go for Verlander, it's obvious they were trying to get a significantly better starter than Stripling to replace him.
  3. Real nice piece of business here. Honestly, I take Bassitt at $63M over Senga at $75M given Bassitt is actually a proven starter in the majors. Blue Jays only $8M away from the luxury tax now. Gotta think we cross it after maybe signing another OF? Still probably adding to the bullpen too.
  4. Have the terms come out yet? Odd that it's day-old news and the contract details haven't been revealed. Wondering if they are being extra cautious in revealing the details until he passes the physical.
  5. This is the craziest offseason spending spree I’ve seen from a single team: Edwin Diaz: $102M Justin Verlander: $86M Brandon Nimmo: $162M Kodai Senga: $75M Jose Quintana: $26M David Robertson: $10M They’ve added $122M in AAV alone this offseason so far. Luxury tax payroll is pushing $350M. They’re gonna shell out $400M with penalties included. How crazy is that.
  6. I like this move if they get Brantley as well. Otherwise, meh.
  7. Realistically, it should’ve never even gotten to this point with Bogaerts/Boston. Bogaerts was adamant about wanting to stay, and then Boston spits in his face by offering him a 4 year $90M extension, which is a total slap in the face. He was already due $60M over three yeees if he opted in, so really it ended up being a 1 year $30M extension. Just a total misalignment of value. Like if they offer him $150M over 6 years or something in Spring Training, they probably sign him and it would’ve been a fair value deal that would’ve aged incredibly well in this market.
  8. Also, thank god I never have to hear Lars Nootbar as a potential Jay again.
  9. My guess is Sean Murphy likely goes to the Guardians since they have enough prospect capital to get it done. So that leaves Astros, DBacks, & Marlins competing for one of our catchers. Red Sox and Rays have a need, but I doubt we trade inter-division.
  10. Time to trade Danny Jansen to the Astros for Luis Garcia
  11. How likely would it be that Kikuchi would get $20M over 2 years (the reminder of his contract) in this crazy market? Still relatively young, throws hard, good raw stuff. If Kyle Gibson at age 35 coming off a 5.05 ERA season is getting 1 year $10M, it's not crazy to think Kikuchi can double that AAV. Berrios $18.7M AAV looking like a bargain. Gausman might've gotten $30M/yr in this market. Overall, our SP contracts seem to have aged pretty well.
  12. According to Nicholson-Smith, we were willing to go multiple years on Verlander, who was surely not signing less than $40M AAV. That would’ve blasted us past the first luxury tax threshold. Seems like we have around $30M-$40M to spend this offseason. My bold prediction is we do cross the threshold by the end of the 2023 season after midseason acquisitions. Jays were an absolute cash cow for Rogers this past year.
  13. 11 years, $300M according to Kiley McDaniel This market is absolutely bonkers....
  14. Kershaw never seemed like the type of dude who was out to 'maximize his value' at every stop. He has more than enough money in the bank at this point, and just cares about racking up career accolades as a Dodger legend and having a shot at the World Series every year. He also might be willing to take slight discounts so the Dodgers can do other things like sign Freddie Freeman to a contract. He might've switched teams if some team was willing to give him stupid money (like the DeGrom contract), but I don't think many teams are due to his injury history (and his stuff and velo seem to be declining every year).
  15. I really have a feeling the Rangers are getting Rodon. They're not f***ing around.
  16. Carlos Baerga apparently reporting that Justin Verlander to the Mets is close to being done: $86.8M for 2 years with a mutual option for a third year.
  17. I didn’t realize the Rangers were 68-94 last year. Jeez. A 1-2-3 of DeGrom-Perez-Gray is okay. Perez will regress though. On the hitting side, Lowe probably won’t put up the same numbers, Seager should be better, and Semien might produce around the same he did this year. This signing gets them to what, maybe 74-75 wins if DeGrom stays healthy? Most of the lineup and pitching staff still kinda sucks. It’s been an odd rebuild where they’ve gotten very little production from their prospects and are just trying to build through free agency now.
  18. Aiming for 3rd place in the AL West. Maybe 4th if DeGrom isn't healthy. He's started 25 games in the last two years combined
  19. Rangers just absolutely f***ed pitcher valuations this winter in one fell swoop.
  20. Market seems kinda crazy this year.
  21. Boras has come out and said that Bellinger already has multiple multi-year offers on the table, but they're looking for a 1 year deal. Seems like there's a lot of interest in him. He fits on a lot of teams, not just contenders too. It'll come down to which team offers him everyday playing time.
  22. Speaking of, has a former MVP ever been non-tendered before? Usually if they play long enough, they start signing minor league deals and getting released, but for a former MVP to get non-tendered in their arbitration years seems unprecedented.
  23. If I'm Boras, I'm 100% doing due diligence with every other team in the league right now. He's a free agent, so might as well. There's enough intrigue there that teams might willing to pony up something long term and ride it out to see if he finds it. 27 year old former MVP who got non-tendered due to injury and fall in performance. He's one of the most fascinating free agents in recent history.
  24. I'd probably rank him in the 5-10 range. Still got Tiedemann, Martinez, Barriera, Toman, and Zulueta as my top 5.
