1. Bo: 2-4 with 4 RBI Vlad: 1-3 with 1BB
2. If you take the remaining years into account, it's a 7 year $163M deal for Altuve. I wonder if this changes anything for JD. Would he sign for 5 years $140M on top of this year?
3. Altuve gets a 5-year $150M extension from the Astros. Contract will start in 2020. https://twitter.com/brianmctaggart/status/974752013715234816?s=19
4. I don't think they'll cut Morales unless they absolutely have to. Like if he's at a 80 OPS+ by June or something and shows no signs of getting better. This front office wants to maximize every dollar that they've spent on someone. Also people on here tend to overstate how bad he actually was. The guy was worth -0.2 WAR. He's not Albert Pujols level of bad. Honestly if he was making $5M instead of $11M, I doubt people on here would even care. We have enough depth now that he doesn't even have to be one of our better hitters like we relied on him to be last year. I say he bounces back. .265/.320/.460 with 30 homers. Still won't be worth much WAR since his baserunning sucks and zero defensive value, but I think he can give us a solid ~1 WAR season. And then maybe try to offload him to a rebuilding team eating some cash since there might be a roster crunch next year.
5. Good thing we've built up enough viable depth to cover for them in case those injuries occur. The narrative that we're old has gotten old itself too. We're not the youngest team, but I think we have a healthy mix of older and younger players.
6. The goal every year should simply be to get to the playoffs. Everything from there is a crapshoot. If we're in striking distance of a postseason berth, we should absolutely go for it.
7. Despite our record, and despite Spring Training not really being indicative of much, I really do think we've got a good shot at that wildcard. Well rounded lineup. Well rounded rotation. Just looks like a good team overall with really good depth in the minors.
8. Borucki @4 above both Pearson and Jansen is bizarre.
9. Good article on Neil Walker: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/neil-walker-needs-a-job/ I still can't believe he doesn't have a job yet. He has durability concerns, but when he's healthy, he's a good bet to provide 2-3 WAR.
10. Has it been reported where Vlad and Bo will start the season? Has to be AA, right?
11. Acuna home run against the Yankees: https://mediadownloads.mlb.com/mlbam/mp4/2018/03/02/1879674483/1520014966277/asset_2500K.mp4 What a pretty swing
12. Swaggerty might not fall to #12 at this rate. Madrigal might with his injury.
13.

12:50 Anne: Prospect in the bottom 50 of top 100 you think will make the biggest jump into top 50?.

12:51 Eric A Longenhagen: Could be any of the crazy tools guys. I’ll say Nate Pearson

14. 2018 Blue Jays Top 30 according to MLB Pipeline: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2018?list=tor
15. Also Rocker at #8.
16. Hopefully we trade or non-tender Zeke and give Smith Jr. the 4th OF spot.
17. Some good bats. Hoping we can nab one of Nander de Sedas, Madrigal, or Swaggerty at #12. Worth noting that Swaggerty hit really well with the wooden bat. Hankins should go 1-1 imo. I think that kid is gonna be a beast.
18. Yankees get Drury now to add to their infield. Where is Moustakas gonna end up going?
19. With an opt out after 2 years. Not bad at all. Hopefully the Yankees and Red Sox take away some wins from each other. Otherwise I don't see us doing too well.
20. So the Top 30 prospects for each AL East team was supposed to get updated today, but the Jays, Yankees, and Rays page didn't get updated. Apparently Top 10 farm systems don't get released until later, so it basically means we have a Top 10 farm system according to MLB Pipeline.
21. I’ll take a strong rotation top to bottom over a top heavy one. Having an ace is obviously nice, but 4 #2 starters like we have gives us a chance to win more games. Aces are overrated if you don’t have a good supporting cast behind them.
22. So looking like we have solid/average depth all around the diamond now: C: Martin, Maile, Jansen, McGuire 1B: Smoak, Pearce, Tellez 2B: Travis, Solarte, Diaz, Urena, Gurriel, Ngoepe SS: Tulo, Solarte, Diaz, Urena, Gurriel, Ngoepe 3B: Donaldson, Solarte, Diaz OF: Pearce, Granderson, Pillar, Grichuk, Alford, Hernandez, Carrera, DSJ, Pompey SP: Stroman, Sanchez, Estrada, Happ, Garcia, Biagini, Borucki, Pannone BP: Osuna, Tepera, Barnes, Loup, Ramirez, Mayza The only real black hole in that lineup would be Maile. Adding another reliever would be nice too. Otherwise seems like a very competent average to above average MLB roster all the way down.
23. On Kelly and Vlad being ranked the way they were
24. Yankees are definitely gonna make a play for Machado. Doubt they go for a multi year commitment for Moustakas. Also I would think getting another starter is higher up in their priority list than a 3B. They could roll with Gleybar and Andujar and Torres between 2B and 3B for a year based on the strength of that lineup. Or sign Nunez for a year.
25. Mike Moustakas’ market is all dried up. Angels and Mets were his two primary suitors and they’re gone. Which is good because f*** Mike Moustakas.
