  1. Not really. You'd get a proven MLB outfielder with 5 years of cheap control for an unproven prospect who hasn't even reach AA. I would still do Bo++ for Yelich in a heartbeat.
  2. Just from a distance, this front office seems to value exit velocity a lot. Smoak, Morales, and now Grichuk. All of them hit the ball really really hard, but all of them have (had in the case of Smoak) pretty glaring contact issues. I think the idea is, power is not something you can teach, but plate approach is. And so it comes down to the player development team and coaches to teach them that. I think Morales will have a better season next year. In the case of Grichuk, I hope someone can help him with his strikeout rate. If so, we got him for a steal.
  3. To play devils advocate, Conner Greene has a high potential bust rate, and Dominic Leone is unlikely to repeat the same performance he had last year. I would argue we didn't give up all too much. Every time you can trade a non top 100 prospect in Conner Greene plus a non-elite reliever for a potential everyday OF with 3 years of control, you do it.
  4. I like how we're buying low on all these guys. Diaz, Solarte, and Grichuk all are coming off down years which means that we didn't have to give up much to get them, but also that there's nothing but potential upside.
  5. I'm actually very very bullish on all the offseason moves so far. All the moves haven't been the sexiest (i.e. like the Yankees trading for Stanton), but these are all moves that considerably raise the floor for the Jays for both next season and the future. Even if we end up sucking next year, Aledmys Diaz, Yangervis Solarte, and Randal Grichuk will still be there the year afterwards. When our impact guys like Vladdy, Alford, and Bo finally get to the big leagues, it's really nice to know that we have a competent supporting cast in Grichuk, Solarte, Teoscar, and Diaz waiting in the background as opposed to Ryan Goins or Darwin Barney or Ezequiel Carrera who are basically black holes. It's all about depth and having competent players around the diamond. I feel like the front office has done a fantastic job of building that without giving up much at all in prospect capital and still having tremendous financial flexibility for the future as well.
  6. I'd like to move Pillar for a starter and then sign Cain for CF.
  7. That would not be terrible if we could get the Royals to eat $15M off that contract. Then it becomes $34M over 3 years compared to $23M over 2 years for Kendrys Morales, with Brandon Maurer as the equalizer for the extra year we're eating.
  8. Ideally trade Morales and Pearce becomes primary DH.
  9. Danny Jansen ranked 8th in Top 10 catcher prospects by MLB Pipeline: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2018?list=c Also, Jorge Alfaro has been prospect eligible for what seems like a century.
  10. It's not about the exit velocity with Jose. When he connects he still hits bombs. It's simply that he doesn't have the bat speed anymore.
  11. Cain might not cost that much with how the market is playing out. We might be able to nab him for $14M-$15M over 4 years. We'd then have to be okay with Biagini as the in house option for 5th starter or trade for a cheap 5th starter. And then also be okay with the bullpen the way it is now. An outfield of Pillar in CF, Cain in RF, and Granderson/Pearce in LF is actually pretty good. I'm comfortable with that.
  12. Not bad given the price is $5M, but I'm hoping he's more of a depth guy rather than the starting RF.
  13. I feel like we could've done better than Solarte for Edward Olivares in hindsight. Probably could've been the main piece in a McCutchen trade.
  14. McCutchen to the Giants. Return hasn't been reported yet. Stars are lining up for us to sign Lorenzo Cain. Who's in the running now for him? Gotta be between us and the Rangers, and the Rangers need pitching more than they need an OF. I'm gonna make a bold predict and say we end up signing Cain for $64M over 4 years.
  15. It would be awesome if we could trade for McHugh since the Astros got Cole, and sign Lorenzo Cain. That adds 5-7 wins right there if both are healthy.
  16. Hopefully we trade for him. He’d look mighty fine in a Jays uni. Trade for him and sign Lorenzo Cain and I could actually see us competing for a Wild card spot.
  17. We should 100% be going after McHugh. He's the odd man out and he'd be the perfect 5th starter.
  18. Would this would make Donaldson the highest paid player in Jays history over the course of a single season?
  19. Would you rather sign J.D. Martinez to a 6-7 year contract, or try to extend Donaldson this offseason with the remaining funds we have?
  20. With the Solarte acquisition, this gives us roughly $20M left to spend assuming the opening day payroll is the same as last season ($165M). We still need a corner OF bat and a 5th starter. I'd be fine with giving ST invites to some AAAA guys and having them and guys like Pannone and Borucki compete for the 5th rotation spot. Spend the $20M on a good OF like a Lorenzo Cain.
  21. I wonder what it would take to get Collin McHugh from the Astros. He's their #6 starter on the depth chart right now. I think he would be a perfect fit for our 5th starter position, and the 'Stros probably want to clear up some space to give Martes, Whitley, Paulino, and Cionel Perez a shot in the rotation. They're drowning in major league ready depth, it's unbelievable. If we can somehow either get Colin Moran or Tony Kemp too, that would be fantastic. On a side note, the Astros are such an well run organization. Jeff Luhnow really has done an incredible job with that team.
  22. Who are the Padres even bidding against? There's no market for Hosmer. If they really want him, he can be had a on 5 year deal. Also this would mean Wil Myers back to the OF. That'll make for some fun highlights.
  23. Schilling at 67% is surprising
  24. Bill (Delaware): Is Vlad Jr/Bichette the best duo atop a top 10 list? How do they stack up to the Red's Senzel/Greene, ChiSox Eloy/Kopech, Padres Tatis/Gore? Ben Badler: I'd take Vladdy and Bichette over any other 1-2 in the game.
  25. He would've been an okay 5th starter. Wouldn't have cost that much either.
