  1. I just hate when hitters directly state that they are trying to aim the ball up the middle given how hard it is to actually produce any results this way. There are a lot of guys on the team who hit a ton of their hard hit balls nearly directly at the right fielder as well. It seems like Bo and Kirk and even Vlad to a degree are much easier to defend as a result.
  2. Yeah I think his stuff should play in out of the rotation but he needs to iron out the command issues.
  3. That team had a really sizeable positive run differential at that point whereas this team is currently sitting at -46.
  4. Tiedemann was on the bump tonight. Put up 5 K's in 2.1 innings along with 2 walks.
  5. I looked up the expected stats during this period and Bo sits at a .316 xwOBA/.275 wOBA. Springer and Kirk have similar splits as well which sees them dramatically underperforming their expected stats. A key job for whoever eventually overlooks the hitters will be turning the quality of contact these guys produce into actual results on the field.
  6. I suspect Barger's 2023 downturn in power was more due to the reported elbow issue that he played through. I recall it didn't really affect his throwing but had a large effect on his offensive output. In his AAA stint this season he was back to producing fairly similar power output to his 2022 numbers in A+/AA.
  7. Feel free to provide receipts where I suggested Springer should be permanently benched. Having said that I see no issue with reducing his playing time a bit until he shows he's able to produce better results at the plate. Turner had an abysmal month of May and needed to earn an increase in playing time and I see no reason why Springer shouldn't need to do the same thing. Other contending teams that don't feature half of their lineup simultaneously producing the worst seasons of their respective careers can afford to keep a struggling veteran in the lineup every day and still keep winning games. If you are suggesting that featuring George Springer's 71 wRC+ in the lineup every day of the week isn't having a material effect on a struggling offensive lineup I don't know what to say at that point. Seeing as how I never said to permanently bench Springer then it stands to reason I would suggest nothing of the sort for Bo. They have each struggled to similar degrees, however Springer's struggles are part of a prolonged year over year decline which have seen his results at the plate suffer from a precipitous decline over several seasons of play, vs Bo whose struggles are much shorter in nature. Springer is 34 years of age and appears to be well past his offensive prime, vs Bo who is 26 old, in his physical prime, and coming off of a 126 wRC+ season. Are you this obtuse intentionally? I'd like to think you aren't actually dumb enough to feature this type of argument but I'm perfectly willing to shift course if necessary.
  8. Yeah I've fully come to terms with a selloff needing to happen at the trade deadline and don't know how I'd react if the team actually creeped back into contention.
  9. He looked like Robocop without his helmet the day he was hired.
  10. Yeah it's obvious nothing is going to happen quickly given how long it took to even move Springer out of the leadoff spot this season. Even 3 months as MLB's worst qualified hitter is enough to see his playing time cut or even moved towards the bottom of the order.
  11. Yeah the obvious answer at this point is that nobody thinks Atkins should be kept around.
  12. Simmons is nothing more than an outrage peddler that panders to the lowest common denominator and really isn't worth giving any attention to.
  13. Chapman is actually a very good comparison for Varsho when you think about it. Both of them are essentially about 4 win players who primarily derive their value from elite defense combined with approximately league average or slightly above bats.
  14. It's just hard to envision any path towards contention in 2025 if that many players are moved out as it opens up so many holes on the roster. The team would have no starting catcher, no leverage relievers and several holes in the starting rotation. That's why I don't see any reason to not move out Gausman and Bassitt as well as at that point you might as well go full rebuild vs attempting some sort of retool/soft reset.
  15. Batting average isn't useful on it's own, even you should able to recognize that as a fact. I don't see anyone comparing Bryce Harper, who has produced elite offensive seasons to Daulton Varsho anywhere in this conversation so I fail to see how he is remotely relevant to a discussion involving dudes like Gabriel Moreno, Daulton Varsho and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Pay attention to the actual topic of conversation and try to follow along.
  16. If all of these trades occurred I don't know if there would be much of a point to hanging onto either of Gausman and Bassitt at that point as the team would almost certainly be awful for several seasons. There would be far too many holes on the roster for any shot at contention in the immediate future and as such there would be little reason not to do a more complete tear down, Vlad extension aside.
  17. You might not be aware of this but baseball is a team sport, and neither of Gurriel or Moreno were anything more than league average bats in the playoffs as a whole and weren't anywhere close to the strongest contributors on their club. If you want to essentially ignore the regular season when evaluating a long term trade and use a handful of games where Moreno and Gurriel contributed in the post season before going ice cold at the plate knock your socks off. I'm not defending Shatkins, I'm defending a good trade in which both teams will most likely ultimately be happy with what they received. Unlike the mass of mouth breathers who instantly declared the Varsho trade as "worst trade in history" and other assorted nonsense as soon as Gurriel hit his once or twice a year hot streak before going into the tank the rest of the way I'm capable of waiting long enough to gather the necessary data before passing judgement.
  18. That post is so dumb it's account delete worthy.
  19. Wow evaluating a long term trade by using batting average, how very astute of you. You might not have realized this but Gurriel was a league average (at best) corner outfielder whose best ever season of 2 wins above replacement saw him match Varsho's worst ever season. Moreno still hasn't shown he can hit major league pitching with any kind of power outside of a few very short spurts which is likely why he was available for trade in the first place.
  20. I think you should understand perfectly well by now that it wouldn't have mattered all that much with how poor the pitching has been as a whole.
  21. Surrounded by two other elite talents in Judge and Soto would likely allow Vlad to unlock his full potential and would be an absolute nightmare scenario. The short porch in right field would allow him to shoot a bunch of home runs to right field as well.
  22. I sometimes wonder if Vlad didn't swing quite as hard if it would help him find the sweet spot with more frequency.
  23. Mullins has been s*** so I have no idea why you would compare him to Vlad aside from your obvious hatred of the guy. Vlad has been settling into more of a Yelich type of offensive output this season. He's been hitting the tar out of the ball over recent months and has 5 home runs in June so hopefully it's a sign of things to come and not a short home run spurt.
  24. Green looks bad when you look at FIP in isolation. Look at ERA and xERA and he suddenly looks much better as the only runs he's allowed all season are a handful of solo home runs. Would Teo have been willing to sign a cheap team friendly extension? I guess that's something we will likely never know.
  25. What does your source have to say about the overall direction of the club? Is a retool coming? Full on rebuild? Is anyone's job safe at this point?
