  1. If I’m not mistaken it was a hybrid procedure with full Tommy John plus internal brace. I believe the rehab time is the same but the repaired tendon should have improved expected life span.
  2. Manfred has stated repeatedly that MLB will be going to a challenge system so Kirk will still have plenty of value. Even without framing he is still an above average defender as he’s posted positive values in throwing and blocking this season.
  3. I don't think all of the underperformance compared to expected stats was purely luck. Vlad hit a lot of hit barreled balls to the deepest parts of the ballpark and subsequently these batted falls found their way into opposition gloves. On top of that he's barreling up more balls and finding the sweet spot more frequently.
  4. I think if Alvarez went to free agency he would have set a new standard for 1B/DH contracts as there aren't any recent players who reached free agency who are comparable based on elite offensive production from an early age and reaching free agency at a very young age as well. All of the other first basemen to sign in free agency were quite a bit older than Alvarez and didn't really offer the same type of consistent offensive output.
  5. I think Alvarez signed a bad deal so it probably shouldn't serve as a comparison. He's a 4 win player in a poor season and a 6 win player in a good season. I think he's underpaid to a great degree as one of MLB's best overall hitters and likely left a ton of money on the table vs going to free agency.
  6. Trading Wells required one of MLB's dumbest owners forcing his general manager to take on a bad contract. If things go sideways with Vlad I'm not so sure you could rely on there being an equally dumb owner to once again force his front office to make this trade. Having said that I'm fully on board with extending Vlad as he's finally shown me enough to suggest that he's fixed at the plate.
  7. The team is down a starter with the Kikuchi trade, and Yariel has been demoted to AAA so it seems like a good possibility that Bloss will receive a start or two out of the major league rotation.
  8. Vlad has been producing like a 6 WAR player over the last 3 months despite some of the worst defense and baserunning in the majors.
  9. I haven't seen any numbers posted anywhere for Vlad's contract asks, have you heard something concrete?
  10. I think it's time to extend Vlad. Elite talents such as his don't grow on trees and he's arguably the most talented hitter the organization has ever produced.
  11. I'd like the club to move Vlad to third base full time. I think the in shape version of Vlad could at least provide similar defense to Rafael Devers. It's crazy how much he's improving with the bat as the season goes on, on April 27th he was sitting at 90 wRC+/-0.2 FWAR. Since then he's gone 178 wRC+/3.0 FWAR in 79 games. That's peak 2021 level Vlad and I think it's high time to give the man the extension he so badly wants. I wouldn't be at all surprised if ownership eventually steps in to get this done.
  12. I was initially thinking the team should keep Bassitt but with the crazy prices being paid it makes sense to at least listen to offers.
  13. Martinez wasn't busted for steroids, he tested positive for a fertility drug.
  14. Now you are plagiarizing Jays24 with the nervous lol at the end of the post. Seems some people just can't help themselves.
  15. Yeah just skip the apostrophes and I don't think anyone will bat an eyelash.
  16. Is your keyboard broken or something?
  17. Get your own material. It's bad enough you've turned into a giant whiner there's no need to add plagiarist to that as well.
  18. If the team had a stronger system they could have acquire Soto in the offseason as well so we are fully in agreement. I recall it was reported that asking prices at the deadline for completely unreasonable and that was the primary reason nobody of note was moved. It seems as though Atkins is not the type to overpay in trade and may be a tad too conservative to push in all of his chips at the deadline.
  19. Literally nobody worth a f*** was moved at the deadline last season. Maybe the team could have added Tommy Pham as he was likely the best bat moved but he came with a multitude of character questions and seemed exactly the type the team typically hasn't been interested in as a result.
  20. Shouldn't you be busy finishing the page in your coloring book?
  21. The last thing last year's Blue Jays team needed was a 39 year old DH type in the middle of a mediocre season. Are you going to suggest that adding this year's version of Justin Turner to last year's Blue Jay was a worthwhile move? Are you dense?
  22. Who would Turner even replaced on last year's roster? Belt was the team's best hitter and played DH, and Turner wouldn't be taking Vlad's spot at first base either.
  23. I don't recall any decent bats moving at all in last year's trade deadline. I do remember discussion that Teoscar was nearly moved but the teams couldn't agree on the cost.
  24. Adding a Justin Turner type wouldn't have really made much of a difference though.
  25. The club may actually be able to dip under the luxury tax although I haven't dug into this very much.
