  1. Would that allow Vlad to impart more backspin on his batted balls? I think the primary issue is likely swing path related with hitting on the top of the baseball a tad too much.
  2. I believe Jansen and Orelvis were available on the bench aside from Springer.
  3. I made the mistake of looking up Springer's splits. He's bad vs RHP at 83 wRC+ yet absolutely abysmal vs LHP this season at 37 wRC+. And he's ice cold in June with a 31 wRC+ and Barger has had a lot of good quality AB's since his callup. So of course it stands to reason that Schneider instantly inserts Springer to pinch hit against a lefty when Barger actually has reverse splits in AAA. FFS.
  4. This game perfectly encapsulates the 2024 Blue Jays experience. Lack of offense and shaky relief pitching unable to hold a late lead.
  5. Turner might not be a total writeoff as he had a tremendous month of April and appears to have righted the ship in June as well. He had a legitimately awful 3 weeks where he looked like his career was over so hopefully he can avoid these types of deep slumps over the rest of the season.
  6. It's totally Blue Jays that Springer finally managed to find a way to stay healthy at the same time that he lost the ability to make a difference at the plate.
  7. Obviously a lot of this has been forced upon the front office by the underperformance of the offense as a whole, but part of the boring offseason with no long term obligations was likely due to the desire to present opportunities to the upper levels prospects if they showed they were worthy of these opportunities. All of Barger, Horwitz and Orelvis have earned their shots at MLB playing time by excelling in Buffalo just as Scheider earned his promotion with an excellent 2023 season in the minors.
  8. It sure sounds like it at times though. You just keep on repeating how guys like Teo and JDM wouldn't have completely fixed the offense and carrying on like it wasn't worth bothering to add them for this reason.
  9. I don't think it should have been a choice between Biggio and Schneider as Biggio earned his post season spot by being one of the few guys on the team who actually produced some offense in the month of September. It was a choice between Schneider and Merrifield as these guys who were both right handed hitters largely manning the same two positions. Merrifield was literally one of MLB's worst qualified hitters over the last two months of the season and yet the team still left Schneider off of the post season roster.
  10. Horwitz has really pronounced lefty/righty splits in AAA the last two seasons. He's essentially a slap hitter vs left handed pitching so I have zero issues with starting him on the bench for the game. Turner and Clement have both hit very well against left handed pitching this season. Horwitz can still provide some offense off of the bench later in the game in a more favorable matchup.
  11. Wow I just looked up his age and didn't realize he was already 37 years old.
  12. I'd guess a big part of this has been seeing if Horwitz can play second base effectively enough to warrant playing time there. Once he showed he wasn't a butcher there it removed Biggio's primary remaining avenue for playing time. I thought Vogelbach was more of a place holder until Votto showed whether he offered any upside with the bat, but with Votto taking an eternity to get over the ankle injury it allowed Vogelbach to hang around much longer than expected.
  13. Turner has been hitting much better in recent weeks so it could be a little tricky to get Orelvis into the lineup on a regular basis into the DH position. Both of these guys have pronounced splits and hit left handed pitching much more effectively which further complicates matters.
  14. If you dig a little below the surface numbers you find a .342 xwOBA, including .266 xBA, .331 xOBP and .455 xSLG. It simply appears that he isn't being properly rewarded for the quality of contact he's producing over the month.
  15. Wow the club has been essentially trying to develop him into a Biggio replacement then except with the ability to even man short stop. Hopefully he doesn't look completely overwhelmed by the spotlight this time and lets the game come to him a little bit. I really like his physical toolset and he has a chance to be a difference maker if he can keep the nerves under control a bit better this time.
  16. It will be interesting to see how they work Barger into the lineup. Does this primarily move Springer to the bench? Does Barger see time at third base?
  17. Lopez has seen his numbers in a giant tailspin so the splashy debut may have just been an unsustainable hot streak.
  18. The bigger issue for me is how counterproductive that would ultimately be to have someone in charge of running a baseball operations department that isn't capable of making moves to improve the team. Just fire the guy and find someone to take over so that the team isn't stuck in stasis and missing out on available opportunities.
  19. Nobody here ever once said that AA sucks, but every time there is even a tiny shred of reasonable criticism sent his way you start slathering all over his balls with the barrage of white knight posts. We get that you absolutely idolize the guy, but eventually you should just move on with your life and accept that he chose to leave to greener pastures. Give it a f***ing rest with the Atkins cult nonsense. Nobody on here praises Atkins anywhere close to the degree that you are constantly carrying on about. Get some new material, it's not funny, remotely interesting, adds zero value to any discussion here, and is nothing more than inflammatory troll level nonsense.
  20. You literally have zero self awareness. Here you are praising AA who added Lopez and Sale to his rotation. But if Atkins made the same moves and it was praised by anyone it's because "Atkins cult". So I guess this makes you a member of the AA cult by your own logic.
  21. It's also been reported that the Jays will be covering part of Biggio's salary as well as part of the trade so that reduces the overall savings a bit.
  22. The only dudes that like your posts are the antisocial types so that should speak volumes.
  23. That sounds like a repeat of last season.
  24. Players can't control where the ball goes when it comes off of the bat. They can only control taking a good swing and making effective contact. Plenty of the time the hits simply don't drop in despite doing everything right and hitting the ball well. Baseball is a very luck driven sport sometimes, and today had a bit of bad luck on batted balls mixed in with some questionable managerial moves (not pinch hitting for Springer), some misplays in the field (Kirk throwing through on a steal with a runner on third) and some leaky relief pitching.
  25. The rest of the turds had plenty of bad luck too as the hardest hit balls largely found their way into gloves. That's baseball some times when luck doesn't go your way at the plate. Exit Velo/xBA/result Kirk 105.4/.640/lineout Kirk 100.5/.610/sac fly IKF 100.9/.560/lineout Springer 110.0/.890/lineout Vlad 98.6/.390/lineout
