  1. Anderson is still building up his arm strength to allow for higher pitch counts. On a team with only three healthy starters at the moment surely you can understand why the coaching staff would feel the need to be cautious with one of their few remaining starters.
  2. Yeah pretty discouraging news, from my limited research recovery times can range from anywhere from 2 weeks up to 6 to 8 weeks depending on the severity of the injury. The following article had some interesting tidbits that may help to explain why Pearson's command was off so much this season. https://www.inovanewsroom.org/expert-commentary/2016/09/outside-the-strike-zone-what-is-a-flexor-mass-strain/
  3. If you look at Font's game logs he had actually been pitching reasonably well leading up to last night's game, but why he was given so much leash when he clearly didn't have it is the bigger offense.
  4. I don't know if it's been mentioned but the home plate umpire gets a huge assist in Boston's win last night. The Boston starter got the benefit of a massive strike zone with multiple pitches well off the plate called for strikes, and in my view the game totally turned around at the moment Vazquez received a reprieve when instead of being called out on strike 3 was given a chance to continue his at bat instead. Maybe Font still melts down afterwards anyway, but we'll never know for sure.
  5. By statcast Teoscar has actually been slightly unlucky, his expected WOBA is .411 vs his actual WOBA of .394. He's been destroying baseballs for 4 months straight now, I would argue he's already figured things out to a large degree.
  6. Nice to see Grichuk in the lineup today.
  7. No surprise Law hasn't been able to get another front office job when he doubles down on terrible opinions like this one.
  8. Damn that's tough, I guess it boils down to how badly you want to compete this season. Clevinger's ugly early numbers would cause me some concern as to what version of him you are going to be obtaining.
  9. Removing Teoscar will be downgrading the squad quite significantly though, it's not like the teams minor league system is filled with great outfield prospects to insert in his place. On an offensively challenged team like the Jays removing their second best bat up to this point would be a huge loss. If you think people complain about Teoscar's misadventures wait until Fisher gets some actual playing time in the outfield.
  10. That still leaves the team with only 3 outfielders available though, unless you think McKinney is a suitable backup.
  11. Moreno could very well end up being the best of the crop of catching prospects in the Jays system, to move him I would hope it's for a high end player in return.
  12. I think you're a fool picking a fight with a newly minted mod that's well on your way to earning yourself a timeout.
  13. I like Kevin pillar as a 4th outfielder acquisition. He seems to have made a massive improvement to his plate discipline up to this point in the season. Even if he reverts to his old hacking ways he would still be a great addition to a squad that lacks a proper defensive replacement in the outfield. Added bonus is not having to shift Biggio to the outfield as a defensive replacement and having Panik get more playing time as a result.
  14. Awesome win for the boys. Gurriel is amazing in left field, it's astounding how quickly he gets off his throws from the outfield, but despite the rapid transfer he fires accurate bullet throws almost every time. It's encouraging to see his bat heating up as well. Cavan Biggio is amazing, his diving play at 2nd base showed some serious range, and he's been a very steadying presence at the top of the lineup. Jordan Romano has the prototypical crazed closer look to him, he's very fun to watch. If this team can somehow find some starting pitching they could be an actual threat once Bo comes back.
  15. Yeah nothing to get excited about, but given the acquisition cost (basically nothing) it's hard to complain.
  16. Having a non Panik left handed pinch hitting option is the bigger victory here.
  17. Dozier hasn't played short stop since 2012, and a quick glance at his statcast 2nd base numbers show him to be a well below average defender at second base, so it's hard to imagine him being anything other than terrible defensively at short.
  18. Social distancing aside, you certainly wouldn't want this group attempting to ride an elevator together.
  19. Can Dozier play short stop at all? At least with Drury he can play all the infield positions decently, Dozier does nothing to fix the issue of our backup shortstop not being able to put up a positive WRC+. If you were to lose Espinal and Panik has been removed from the roster then who is left to play short? Tejada or Kevin Smith aren't exactly confidence inspiring options either.
  20. It's a bit of a toss up between the two, it seems lately Espinal is automatically forced to bunt by Montoyo every time there's a runner on base no matter the situation otherwise. Hard to find out what Espinal can do with the bat if he's made to sacrifice three times a game like he's a pitcher.
  21. It's becoming somewhat of a regular occurrence with Montoyo unfortunately. I would personally hope that a manager would place some actual thought into his lineup construction, there are plenty of good baseball minds on the staff he can run stuff by instead of these batshit crazy lineup decisions.
  22. Perfect leadoff man with a .291 OBP, well played Charlie. Must be looking to have Biggio be a "2nd leadoff man" like Teoscar earlier in the season.
  23. Who is playing right field?
  24. I wouldn't be surprised if Montoyo doesn't even last until the end of the season without getting fired, the Jays have a potential manager in waiting in John Schneider. Charlie has no redeeming qualities, he's horrible at managing his bullpen, has zero sense of proper in game strategy and makes baffling lineup decisions on a regular basis. His team shows zero signs of being properly prepared as well. I could give this a pass if he was showing signs of improvement, but he's no longer a rookie manager and keeps making rookie mistakes.
  25. Solid middle middle changeup there. This has the early makings of a massacre.
